I love how on the surface David Walliams character is simply comic relief. But the more you watch you realise how dangerous and sinister that character is. He will sacrifice anybody for his own survival. and the whole subplot with him eating the fish. it's so subtly done
I love this one. Rita is an amazing character. A character who shows a "What might have been". That line. "Please. Let me be robbed of my faith in Private." A character who be grow to love and who cannot be saved. Someone who doesn't get to die a dignified death. They die being robbed of everything they are, everything that is precious to them. Everything that is important to them is stripped away, and all that is left is is a puppet. A shadow. Can you imagine that? Everything you are, pulled apart, destroyed. Everything you value, everything that you hold dear. Torn from you and made to feed a monstrosity. That goes on to hurt others in turn. Such a subtle way of showing how faith affects people. Faith and belief. Without relying on age old pretension. It doesn't judge people for their faith or lack thereof. Literally all it is, is a plot device. And an example of something that is important to people. Just people. I like it because usually Sci-Fi goes one of two ways. It either reacts like Star Trek, where faith is seen as a superstition, to be mocked and grown out of. Or by BSG, where its presence can alienate fan who dislike or disapprove of religious belief. I don't mind either, to be honest. But I don't like the judgement that Sci-Fi comes with. Sci-Fi should be about humans. About people. It shows us where we are, and what we aspire to be. This is an episode about people, rather than about massive alien invasions, or massive schemes. I like episodes that focus on little people. Maybe thats just me. And I guess its interesting to see the Doctor, who is so like a God is so many ways come face to face with other people's beliefs. (The Satan Pit is, in my opinion, the best episode of Doctor Who ever to air.) I like this episode, because it doesn't "Take a side", so to speak. It just us. Just as in our lives, faith just is, or isn't. It exists, and is important to the people who have it. Nothing more. I don't know. Maybe I am seeing patterns that aren't there. But I like that this episode shows just show people. With different beliefs, different backgrounds. Different planets. Just people. Heh. Or maybe those are just the drunken ramblings of a nerd who's had too much wine?
your 2nd paragraph could also describe death from Alzheimer's, and other types of dementia excellent, thoughtful analysis, well done, Haradion Drogon :)
The Minotaur, in the hotel from The Shining? Cool story. No, it is a good story. I always grin at the "Oh, you're a Muslim?" / "Don't be frightened" bit. Even more applicable now than when it aired, i guess. Rita was a great character.
It's a bold statement, but I think the chemistry between 11 and Amy Pond is some of the best, if not THE best onscreen relationship I've ever seen. It's so emotionally charged and it's performed so well, that I can't help but tearing up as I rewatch with you. Matt Smith is truly a master at emotion. That closing scene with him alone in the TARDIS broke my damn heart. PS avoid the comments, people are being dumb. I don't know if you can have chat moderators, but I'd gladly volunteer to read through and hide spoilers. These seasons are top tier, and I feel it's a major disservice for someone to steal the magic away from you.
Torchwood Boy it's paced so perfectly, it's both fun but with a genuine creepy atmosphere, there's a sense of real consequences, the creature design is great, the side characters are dynamic, and there's so much attention to detail. That may be it.
Torchwood Boy I just love how meaningful the whole 'Amy Williams' thing is. The Doctor always calls her Amelia Pond because he still sees a child: a way to fix his past mistakes, his abandonment of her. But Amelia Pond grew up. She's not a kid anymore, she had to deal with her issues. Except she's not Amy Pond either. Amy Pond was a woman who ran away right before her wedding because she was afraid, because she didn't believe herself worthy of Rory's love. Amy Williams on the other hand is happily married, and has dealt with (most of) the problems her childhood inflicted upon her. And the Doctor calling her that finally acknowledges her growth as a person.
The shot at the end of this episode (similar to the one at the end of The Doctor's Wife) where the Doctor's alone at the TARDIS console... they really get to you, don't they Jess? ME TOO! All of Space and Time. Yet so lonely.
Remember what the doctor told Amy at the end of The Eleventh Hour? I love how that wasn't just a throw-away comment and became so important in the episode.
The gorgeous Amara Karan played Rita and you're spot-on, she was in 'The Night of' and recently was very good in Stan Lee's 'Lucky Man'. Would have made a great companion which the Doctor instantly recognizes. Love your reactions :)
She was also one of the better elements of my least favourite ever production of The Taming of the Shrew playing Bianca. So she has a pretty wide range.
The only thing that bothers me is that they just kind of shove Rory to the side at the end. "Here's a car, now fuck off so Amy and the Doctor can have a nice goodbye." HOWEVER, the rest of the episode is great. Toby Whithouse is a wonderful writer, and for years I've been wishing that he'd become showrunner, since he did such a good job with Being Human, but ah well.
The Minotaur in this the Doctor says is related to the alien race The Nimon also Minotaur like from "The Horns of Nimon" one of the best 'so bad its good" episode ever
The Minotaur like alien from this episode is a relative of the Nimon seen back in the 4th Doctor era story "The Horns of the Nimon". (The Nimon were like interplanetary locusts, they'd invade a planet, drain it dry of resources and energy, then move on to another. And they would always do it by gaining the trust of the locals in charge by promising them higher technology, etc. By the time the world leaders found out what the Nimon were really about it would be too late. It was a very interesting story, but the Nimon were notoriously poorly executed (costume wise). Not so with this creature here.)
Aside from your honest reactions (which we truly do appreciate) I think what I love the most about your videos are reliving moments we actually forgot from episodes long past. I legit forgot how good and interesting this story was, along with the emotional ending. And don't worry, as I'm sure a billion other people want to say what's in 11's room, all good things come to those who wait. *evil smile* for real though, thanks for these videos, we really appreciate them! It's not the most I've ever cried at a Doctor Who episode, but it comes close. It also has a really cool Twilight Zone/Twin Peaks vibe feel to it, which I love. I love how Amy and Eleven's relationship really gets highlighted in this, especially since last week put a lot of highlight on Rory and Amy. It kind of shows the two sides of her. And one of those sides was still a young little girl who'd never been able to let go of her childhood where she sat there and waited for the Doctor. It led to part of her abandonment issues, her insecurities, and yet she still always believed in him. "I took your childhood from you" and he knows this, and he needs to get Amy to realize it. She can't just always wait for the Doctor. About the rest of the episode, I love it a lot. It's a really cool concept. And I always loved the fact that Rory was shown an exit door. This is my all time favorite Doctor Who episode. The premise is so interesting and original. It's so powerful and i never get tired of watching it. I always wonder what would be in my room. And i love Gibbis!! (Played by David Walliams from Little Britain). So funny. ❤️
The Thumbnail made it look like the Doctor was in your apartment leaving you as you have had enough of his bs, lol, i'll give you a like just for making me laugh with that.
I was wondering if you are intending to look at the last two episodes of Series 6 back to back? Will it be soon? Also assuming that you are going to continue with Series 7, I have tweeted to you (a few days ago) mini-episodes that you would enjoy viewing before some some episodes in Series 7 and after (obviously not before) - before 1st episode of Series 7, before the 2012 Christmas special and then before the first 2013 special
Out of all the companions, I think Amy suffered the most because of her involvement with The Doctor, even before she knew him. Reasons why 1. She loses her parents to the crack in the wall when The Silence fired at the TARDIS, leaving her with only her aunt who often leaves her alone. 2. She meets The Doctor, who leaves, promising to be back in 5 minutes, which became 12 years and led to her seeing therapists throughout her childhood, 3. When she sees The Doctor again, he leaves for another 2 years. 4. Her complicated relationship with The Doctor impacted her relationship with her fiance soon before they got married, because of her idolising him as a child and her nearly dying because of him and him helping save her, she confuses that with attraction. 5. Her beloved fiance is temporarily wiped from existence, soon after things were looking up for them, and all because someone tried to shoot The Doctor. 6. That leads to her fiance, now plastic shooting her by mistake because of him taking a shot for the Doctor and her being stuck in a box healing for over a thousand years. 7. She was kidnapped for months and was unaware of it. 8. Her baby, who was born different because of being in the TARDIS when being concieved was stolen from her so she did not get to raise her. 9. She was also rendered infertile 10. Amy's faith in the Doctor almost got her killed in the God Complex 11. She was zapped back in time along with Rory, taking her away from her parents again, along with the Doctor and her daughter. There is probably more reasons, but Amy suffered the most because of The Doctor, even if it was not intentional
This is a good episode but I'm fuzzy on a couple of things and I wonder if you or anybody on here can help me. I understand that when a person sees their deepest fear, they fall back on their faith for support. That's clear. But I heard the explanation as to why they praise the creature and that is still confusing. How does their individual faith get turned into food for the creature and why does it kill them? Maybe I'm an idiot but it elludes me. Also (less seriously), when and how did the Doctor manage to get them a house and a car? I suppose that one doesn't matter.
"But I heard the explanation as to why they praise the creature and that is still confusing." maybe I'm dumb, too, are we sure they're praising the creature right before they die? maybe they're 'talking to/about' the god they believe in? digging deeper into their own faith, not suddenly worshipping the creature, it's just a thing feeding off of that energy?
The doctors room had to be the Tardis. The sound and because he has such faith in her. Where ever she takes him, he knows it's where he needs to be. He never questions it and rolls with it. His faith is in the Tardis.
This is such a sad ending but it's nice for the doctor to try and let go of his companions before their luck runs out. Some might say that they become more badass and able to handle the situations with time but then again the longer someone's in Black ops the more likely they are to both survive and die I mean each individual mission yeah your statistically more likely to live but the more missions you go on the more likely you are to die so I would assume the same goes for the doctor's companions they are doing things everyday that could get them killed and eventually one of those missions is going to go bad. I call it missions because I think the tardis chooses where the doctor goes and when they go not the doctor I don't think the doctor actually knows anything about flying the tardis the tardis chooses when and where the doctor is because the tardis knows the doctor's timeline and knows what the doctor will do approximately enough to know the outcome.
The guy who likes being conquered and oppressed reminds me of the bit from dragon Ball z abridged with the small green aliens that are being oppressed and they come in and save them and they're like oh no you killed our masters we liked being slaves
I like this apart from 1) I think it was extremely irresponsible of the Nilmon-thingy worshippers to et it go about killng sentient beings instead of disposing of it properly - your God mess, you clean it up.and 2) Gibbis. Not really cute or funny. Passive-aggressive, vicious and entirely self-serving. Even if he wasn't really David frelling Walliams I'd hate him.
This was another episode that started off great, with a wonderfully creepy setting....that then degenerated into yet another random (completely unscary) monster of week. It has its moments but if only the plot could be written was well as the character interaction.
I love how on the surface David Walliams character is simply comic relief. But the more you watch you realise how dangerous and sinister that character is. He will sacrifice anybody for his own survival. and the whole subplot with him eating the fish. it's so subtly done
I just realised for the first time watching this that Amy's room was number 7 which is how old she was when she met the doctor. (I think)
Yep. Age 7.
And the doctors was 11
Coincidence?
I think not
7... 11?
The Doctor & Amy are Taquitos confirmed!?
I love this one.
Rita is an amazing character. A character who shows a "What might have been".

My personal favourite chemistry is definitely 10 and Donna but yeah they're also brilliant
I love this one, and I'm really not sure why... but I think it's the ending. I just. I just love it.
This has always been one of my favourite episodes. I think it's because it's so psychological. Also, David feckin Walliams
I really, really wanted David Walliams' character to get killed - so no change there.
Torchwood Boy it's paced so perfectly, it's both fun but with a genuine creepy atmosphere, there's a sense of real consequences, the creature design is great, the side characters are dynamic, and there's so much attention to detail.
That may be it.

sea pea I agree Rita was one of those great "could be/should be" companions that occasionally pop up during Doctor Who.
She is so good, also in Darjeeling Limited.
She was also one of the better elements of my least favourite ever production of The Taming of the Shrew playing Bianca. So she has a pretty wide range.
Haven't seen "The Night of" yet, but I do know her from "Stan Lee's Lucky Man."
The ending makes me bawl ! I loved Amy and Rory

I care, sesskasays. It sucks to have a broken AC in the middle of summer.
Out of all the companions, I think Amy suffered the most because of her involvement with The Doctor, even before she knew him. Reasons why
1. She loses her parents to the crack in the wall when The Silence fired at the TARDIS, leaving her with only her aunt who often leaves her alone.
2. She meets The Doctor, who leaves, promising to be back in 5 minutes, which became 12 years and led to her seeing therapists throughout her childhood,
9. She was also rendered infertile
10. Amy's faith in the Doctor almost got her killed in the God Complex
11. She was zapped back in time along with Rory, taking her away from her parents again, along with the Doctor and her daughter.
There is probably more reasons, but Amy suffered the most because of The Doctor, even if it was not intentional
one of my favourite Matt Smith episodes, terrific!! Love your reactions too
He really loved her He wanted her to have a life.
He as in The Doctor
I love this episode. I like the concept and it's just done so well.
One of my favourite episodes this one.
YEAH! Who can't wait for season final?
I like the final because it shows us how far companions are willing to go to help the doctor.
The doctors room had to be the Tardis. The sound and because he has such faith in her. Where ever she takes him, he knows it's where he needs to be. He never questions it and rolls with it. His faith is in the Tardis.
We love It when you cry.
My favourite of Series 6
As the saying goes on Hellraiser, "We have such sites to show you"
No tears, please.
Thank God this wasn't amy and Rory's last episode
Praise Him.
yes keep these coming. my favorite seasons are 6 &7
Hmm, I wonder what would be in your room, Sess?
I got the reference of Sid the Dummy.
what would ur room be?
David Walliams is the best
Great reaction to a great episode! Thank you.
i am blowing my fan at my screen for ya
Good old david walliams
someone's a bit behind 😂
I would love to see you react to the next Doctor reveal, if it hasn't already been spoiled for you.
You'll like the next episode.
I don't really care that much for the next episode as a story, but the ending of it is so good that I'm looking forward to your reaction to it.
The guy who likes being conquered and oppressed reminds me of the bit from dragon Ball z abridged with the small green aliens that are being oppressed and they come in and save them and they're like oh no you killed our masters we liked being slaves
The ending to this ep is so sad!
Shame it's basically Curse of Fenric
I like this apart from 1) I think it was extremely irresponsible of the Nilmon-thingy worshippers to et it go about killng sentient beings instead of disposing of it properly - your God mess, you clean it up.and 2) Gibbis. Not really cute or funny. Passive-aggressive, vicious and entirely self-serving. Even if he wasn't really David frelling Walliams I'd hate him.
awesome vid jess.ur amazing
Love this episode
You'll find out what he saw in the room in later episodes, so don't worry it will show you.
React to doctor who they said.. it'll be fun they said... :'(
i do like this episode and they ending is so sad. I can't wait until you react to the next one
Thumbnail made me think you were Amy.
yeah!!! first!! i like this episode! big fan! i'll give better comment after i finish your reaction :P
good video
This was another episode that started off great, with a wonderfully creepy setting....that then degenerated into yet another random (completely unscary) monster of week. It has its moments but if only the plot could be written was well as the character interaction.
Nice job as always, but I don't know what you are reacting to half of the time.
She can't help that, can only include a max of 10mins picture-in-picture.
Ah, good to know! Thanks!
Just YASSSSSSSS
