I guess when you consider many NFL players are one play away from potentially being permanently disabled or even dead the money is understandable given how much revenue there is in the league. No issue with CJ deal not only is he elite he is the leader and heartbeat of the defence which is hard to put a price on.

I'm a Chris Jones fan, but I believe this new contract is an overreach... and will his drive be the same after getting 'paid'? I saw what happened to Von Miller after he got 'paid' following Denver's last SB win. He was not the same guy, he coasted and didn't work as hard and then the injuries started mounting. Contracts are a slippery slope and you never pay for past performance, you pay for future return... The Patriots were famous for shipping guys out before their big payday. I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to see the Chiefs dynasty continue.

Regarding the Jones deal. Hate to see Chiefs spend so much money on him. He is the most valuable player on defense. No doubt. But whether it is worth it or not will come down to whether the Chiefs win a couple more Super Bowls during his 5 year contract. If they win 2-3 more Super Bowls during the 5 year contract, then yes its worth it to pay him 158M. No Super Bowls or just 1 Super Bowl, Chiefs overpaid. Yes, as a Chiefs fan, 1 Super Bowl is not enough. Chiefs need multiple more Super Bowls.

They should've focused on Sneed. How many coverage sacks did we get because of Sneed and McD? Now we can't afford to pay or sign anyone else. In fact, now we're -5 mil plus over the cap. BUILDING LEGACY - we have never seen such consistency in a franchise and the workings to make it happen like the chiefs are striving to prove.

  • @kryzx8000
    @kryzx8000 6 месяцев назад

I was shocked at the amount guaranteed, but if anything this is more of a 3 year contract with (basically) a team option to keep him for years 4 & 5 if the Chiefs believe he's still producing at a level to warrant the amount we're paying him. This year's cap hit with CJ is actually quite low for someone with his production, which should help re-signing other depth players, but next year & the year after are going to be the "painful" years. Those are the years we can only hope he's healthy and producing at a high level, hopefully DOTY levels, with what we're paying him for years 2 & 3.
Other things I've noticed with legal tampering opened up today: RBs are actually being picked up quickly with decent contracts to other teams, so the RB well is drying up fast & WRs are getting PAID $$$ despite there being a large availability of them in FA and in the upcoming draft. Kind of glad we didn't get Gabe Davis tbh, especially for that kind of money.
I get the feeling we're going to be holding onto our wonderful WRs that make a living dropping passes every Sunday 🤣+ whoever we pick up in the draft.

Also, the salary cap might go higher again in a couple of years, thus, the impact on the total wouldn't be as much. Also, if Kelce retires in 1 or 2 years, the Chiefs won't have Jones, Mahomes and Kelce to pay. But only two of those, making room for other players getting paid.

The thing I've been saying to everyone is that CJ needs to stay in KC because the man is home, this is where he belongs. I don't care how much money they had to spend, Chris is a very important part of the 3-peat (and more) equation and he's an invaluable weapon. He's absolutely worth every penny, nickel and dime the front offices paid him, I'm thrilled he's staying. I wish something could be worked out to keep Sneed, as well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed but I know that may not be viable. And who knows, we may get him back at a later time when we're able to pay him what he deserves.

Got to tell ya, as a fan of the Chiefs, I'm not happy shelly out 32 mil to Chris Jones per year as this means NO money to keep other good players. Townsend was 1/3 of the field goal team that had the best success of any team. Now that is doubt. Townsend left to get a 3 mil per yr salary. Let's hope the next holder can do as well. Allegretti, gone for 5.3 mil, your star backup for the whole line. This guy is a warrior. And Sneed, one of the very best shutdown corners was a major contributor to what made the defense so successful. The Chiefs can't waste to trade that 27 year old when they should be trying to sign him to a long term contract. I suspect , soon many many more Chief players will be somewhere else. Continuity is a great thing to maintain, but not on the Chiefs. The Chiefs paid too much for Jones. Very disappointed.

There are 2 types of free agents. Those you overpay for and those someone else overpays for. That being said I’m glad KC stepped up a signed Jones, seeing him in another jersey would have been a travesty

Yeah sell the future of mahomes to one guy. Jones says he wants to retire as a chief, but obviously didn't move a tiny bit into Veachs direction since last year and chiefs had to make him the highest paid. Don't need a greedy mf who leaves the team alone if he doesn't get his money. I will never forget him this. Definitely overpaid, 1 or 2 years ago everyone said that chiefs are not so stupid to pay him aaron donald money, now he gets it and the fanboys still cheer for it.

I got to see a sb win in my life, that would be enough to get key players paid… but three sb??? Bruh.. overdue

I'm just pleased that Chris is with the team and no more offseason drama and uncertainty.
I want Chris to focus forward and stay as healthy as possible.

Based on the logic you laid out regarding Chris Jones, it makes sense. He would have gotten more outside of KC and we don't want him going to the hated Raiders. Gross!

Love Jones! But over paid him and now we will not be able spend on a top receiver. Wish we paid Mike Evans instead which would have cost less and Jones would have made his top money somewhere else, which he deserves.

Restructuring Thuney and Mahomes might buy us some time with Sneed.

If we put it majority in a signing bonus I do feel like there is a world where we can keep Snead I'm not saying he's not worth the pic but I'm not really saying he is we keep him and just figure it out with the pics that we have

A football team has to have a great defense. A strong offense without a great defense loses games. In the last SB, the 49ers and the Chiefs both had great defenses and it was going to come down to which team had the better defense. The Chiefs had the better defense which led to the game winning TD. The Chiefs need a WR or TE and Travis will be teaching that person or two everything he knows. So they get the best of Travis before he retires which may or may not be in 2 years.

Anyone who thinks this was an overpay is not thinking logically. These guys deserve the payday I always say I’d rather the players get the money than the owners keeping it.

Trey Wingo is right. I've seen too many plays where it was 6 for the opponent if Jones had not been in the QBs face.
