I just love how they even went through the trouble of changing some of the dialogue for playing as Luigi... they never explain why there are two Luigis, but simply the fact that they acknowledge it with a dialogue change makes it worth it.

Edit: Oh I know what you are talking about now. I wonder why they didn’t replace him with Mario.
@@Peyatoe They probably didn't code in an npc version of Mario, and have said npc cower in fear from a bug. It would be too "unbefitting" of their favorite mascot.
@@lasercraft32 I get that but if they are going to go the extra mile to make a pc(player character) version of Luigi why not make a npc version of Mario? It’s not that hard especially if they use the same skeleton. I don’t know I just think it’s weird.
@@Peyatoe Well keep in mind, game development isn't easy. The Luigi mode was probably more of a last minute "just for fun" addition. Its much easier to just rig a luigi model to the player and call it a day. _Most_ of the dialogue npc Luigi has is entirely the same.
@@lasercraft32 I actually mess with some game development. I enjoy programming. I don’t see why putting a Luigi model on the player would be any easier than putting a Mario model on the Luigi npc.

Fun fact : Luigi being slippery was almost always kinda his thing. As early as Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels (or Mario 2 japan) he had that "shoes dipped in butter" control scheme.
It's crazy how many people think Luigi getting a high jump, or unique physics in general, goes back to Super Mario Bros. 2, when really it dates back to Super Mario Bros. 2! See what I did, there?
If we're being especially particular, the slippery mechanics go back to arcade Mario Bros., but y'know, we're talking about Luigi getting stuff that makes him distinct from Mario.
Hey Choc, Galaxy speedrunner here. To answer 12:50 you actually can take damage at that exact spot, giving you invincibility frames to pass right through the giant bullet bill (bonzai bill I think they're called).

12:47 there is a part of Freezeflame Galaxy where you can skip part of the level by long-jumping into a certain area of the lava. The jumping after hitting it goes high enough that you swap gravity and fall up to a part farther along

I kind of wish that Super Luigi Galaxy was actually a hard mode rather than a repeat. The fact that they went and made Cosmic Luigi harder means they really should've done more, that is, if they had time. Maybe just simple things like extra boss phases, extra Cosmic Clones, or a bit less time on speedrun levels.

Fire can be good at some circumstances but it can screw you over if you either A use it at the wrong time or B can't control your movements

I remember playing this soooooo much as a kid. During the pandemic I finally had enough time to 100% complete it. Seeing you do the same brings back so much nostalgia.

You beat it with the Mean Green Machine! Congrats! I still can't believe this game is 15 years old! It definitely has aged really well! After watching this, I'm actually tempted to replay Galaxy 1 & 2 again.
A Mario Galaxy 3 would be amazing, but Nintendo really never reuses 3D Mario themes (with the exception of Galaxy 2). What will be beyond Mario Odyssey on the next console? Who knows? Super Mario Crusade?

When I did Luigi galaxy, the best thing in the world was being able to take a bunch of the most random shortcuts in levels because luigi has the better jumps.

Not a speedrunner but have been playing Galaxy every year since 2008 and have watched a couple of Galaxy speedruns. Lava boosts are a thing in both Galaxy games and are used for skips. The ones in this game I remember off the top of my head are in freezeflame mission 2 and melty molten mission 3.
With Luigi there are cutscene skips that require a triple jump from Luigi to jump into a gravity swapped area for another planet. Which skips a huge cutscene.

I prefer looping on most days, but sometimes I mix it up and go for deswooping instead
There are some insane skips with Luigi. One is called Crystal floating and it’s much easier to do with Luigi. All you really have to do is hit a specific spot on a crystal and you’ll magically start floating until you lose sliding momentum

I attempted a 200% a while back and I just stopped because of the purple coin comment in toy time Galaxy. The number of times I wanted to throw my wiimote through the CRT while playing as Luigi was too many to count. I know Choc that you wanted to snap your switch at least once. The Mario Galaxy games are hands down my favorite games of the Wii era and I enjoyed your commentary throughout this series

12:50 there’s an instance on freezeflame second level I think where using lava is faster than the actual level. in Galaxy 2 the final bowser level you can skip time on the first part of the level by jumping in lava

Yeah, Toad autonatically takes a picture for you in 3D All Stars, where as in the original Wii version he sends them to the Wii message board, how do i know this? I 200% the game on the Wii again when i heard 3D All Stars was releasing and i did so again when i got 3D All Stars.
So basically, between those playthroughs and the one i did a couple years back i've beaten the game 6 times! Three as Mario and three as Luigi, with 4 of those being on Wii and 2 on Switch, and this game is so damn good i wouldn't mind doing it again in some years.
I used to have this game as a kid, but I never got to see the ending because the game disc corrupted right after I beat bowser for the final time
I'm just saying, but Luigi is objectively the superior Mario Bro. - he jumps higher, for starters, which in a platformer is a VERY powerful thing. Next, he works hard despite always getting covered in Mario's shadow. I'd ABSOLUTELY pre-order a Super Luigi Galaxy game. Mansion? No no not enough. I want Super Luigi GALAXY or at least Super Luigi World. Luigi got a MANSION, ok, fine - but even YOSHI got a whole ISLAND in Yoshi's Island - Mario gets a GALAXY - Luigi gets a big house. Come on. Luigi deserves a bigger game than that. Let Mario take the back seat for once.
