@@84kjk Jonathan handled this interview really well & did not get derailed. Refreshing to see after that “Loose Women” debacle where they all ganged up on him & talked over him. Vlad is a good interviewer in that he let him answer his questions thoroughly and did not talk over him. It’s an art .

So why is Netflix (a US based company) making such a fuzz about a guy helping 550 children worldwide?

This is not very unique to my situation, it is basically what all donor children from known donors/known donors + need to ask. Inconvenient for sure, but nothing more than that.

He seemed legit, he looked normal enough, but he basically conned and lied to all of them by hiding the fact that he's a full-time donor who's done this hundreds of times. The pickings for a seemingly decent and not creepy dude to get a sperm donor outside of the system wasn't great.
I offered the recipients the best service they could find, better than a clinic: I was not charging any money (clinic at least $5000) I gave fresh sperm instead of frozen low quality sperm from the clinic, I was direct available (no waiting lists like in the clinics) people could see not only my pics but also have a coffee with me and check out if I was suitable as their donor (in the clinic they get only a few lines of desription and a code) etc etc etc
I am not Brad Pitt or some magical wizzard, I just gave people a very good service and exactly what they wanted.
Numberwise they would have the same amount of siblings with a clinic.

This would translate to 530 donor children in The Netherlands.
So why is Netflix (a US based company) making such a fuzz about a guy helping 550 children worldwide? Why this whole "biological danger" and "inbreeding" story attached to me?

he explained that the parents have to be honest with the kids. That's the agreement. If they are, then the likelyhood of inbreeding is just as likely as any person that knowingly copulates with their sibling. Yes, he's wrong to have a 1000 kids, but the parents now have the power to manage the situation by simply being open.
If it only was that simple. He is the man these children know to be their biological father. The fact he chose to do what he did while telling their parents something completely different does something with these children. The number of children is only one aspect of the problem.

If a couple has 2 kids, those 2 kids can sleep with each other and have kids. The probability is low, but still POSSIBLE as Vlad says. Vlad doesn't understand why the chance of Jonathan's donor children mating with each other is low. These families know each other and empower their children with the knowledge that they are donor children. The risk is more likely for families who hide this from their children AND those children meeting, falling in love, and starting families. Sure the chance is greater than 0, but how much greater than 0?
The risk would be a lot lower if he didn’t donate hundreds of times in the same small country. Imagine having to ask everybody you meet “are you a child of Jonathan?” before you hook up 😂

Vlad cited studies related to mortality rates AFTER inbreeding happens in his response to the donor’s argument about educating the donor children BEFORE inbreeding happens. It’s a weak response from Vlad because the donor never argued about what happens AFTER inbreeding. The donor argued that education is necessary to prevent inbreeding in the first place. I think Vlad didn’t understand this idea or he deliberately ignored it so that he could cite studies just to get a reaction from the donor.

He brought up the statistics on the health problems for children that are inbred, but that's actually irrelevant to the likelihood that two donor siblings would meet, mate, and reproduce. He also brought up the case of his black friend raised by white parents who lied about his adoption. But that's again totally irrelevant. I find Jonathan's answer acceptable. The inbreeding risk is mitigated by making donor children aware of who they are, leaving inbreeding possibilities caused by lying parents. So first you need donor children with lying parents, second you need both children to have Jonathan as the father, third you need them meet, mate, and reproduce. Doesn't sound likely to me!
