Hey Z, I highly doubt that you'll read this but I did have a few questions about Patreon involving the signed copies of the book. 1: Does one have to actually join as a Sergeant or higher to receive the signed copy of the book, or could one just donate something between 20 and 25 dollars on the lieutenant option and still be eligible for the copy? 2: Does one have to keep up with consistent monthly payments until the book is released in order to receive the copy, or would it be alright if one were to only have the ability to pay for a single pay period? I'd have to imagine that the answer to the latter question would be no, but I was just making sure as I am kind of low on funds at the moment and I don't want to appear as greedy or cheap if I can't keep up with payments.

    • @MonsieurDean
      @MonsieurDean  3 года назад +11

@@WaterVolt1917 When the book is ready for publication, I'll send copies out to members who are/were Sergeant tier or higher, and to all long-term donors. The book is just a thank you for all the early donors, so if you donated $20 or more by now, you'll get a copy even if you miss a payment.

@@MonsieurDean Ok, thanks for informing me. I really do enjoy supporting your channel and so I wanted to make sure that I had a complete understanding of the whole book situation. I know that my reply makes it sound like I'm just donating for the book and believe me that's NOT the case (although I obviously enjoy that as well), I just know that I'd be really upset to see your channel go as I've been a subscriber for a few years now and you're by far my favorite alt-history RUclipsr, if not my favorite RUclipsr in general. And because of that reasoning I just needed to know how much money I could realistically donate to you without pushing my limit or looking like a cheapskate. The German states were originally tribal kingdoms, as were the states of the English Heptarchy. Theoretically, the British Monarchy could claim to be the King of the Saxons, which would give them a claim on all of Old Saxony, which lines up rather neatly with Hanover. Even more ridiculously Germany began as a federation of these tribal kingdoms-turned-duchies, and any duke could be elected King (later Emperor). Thus, a Britain plus Saxony could theoretically become German Emperor if the old elective monarchy returned :^)

Kinda makes me think that in theory England and Germany could unite like Austria-Hungary did in our timeline which would give Germany more resource rich colonies like South Africa, Canada, Ireland and India, but in the event of a succession crisis could lead to a massive Civil War like the Hundred Years War between France and England again like in our timeline.

    Scenarios for future Videos:
    - What if Frederick the Great and Maria Theresia married (maybe with the extra that these two had also a son who inheritated prussia and austria and Title of holy roman emperor)? This would lead to an Austro-Prussian Empire. You can split this timeline into one where Frederick and Maria had a son and one without a son. I would prefer the first timeline, because i think the second would change little to our timeline :)
    - What if Germany was unified with prussias greater german solution?
    - What if Prussia splitted up Austria after the German war and annexed all Habsburg lands into the new german empire?
    - What if germany backstabed Austria hungary with their war with serbia?
    - What if the 30 years war never happend?
    - What if America/the USA became a Monarchie, under Fredericks brothers, after their independence?
    - What if the Confederacy took over the whole USA and implemented slavery in the north?

    - What if the Qing Empire never fall/never was pushed around by the european powers (Opium wars n stuff)/never lost territory to russia, japan and the europeans
    - What if Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemberg and Switzerland became Part of the german empire (maybe a Greater German Empire Version with Austria, Bohemia, South Tyrol, Slovenia and Istria+ Switzerland and the Low-Countries)?
    - What if germany formed earlier like france and britain, maybe due a sucessfull Roman conquest of germania or out of east frankia?

    - What if Germany kept their Alliance with Russia?
    - What if an German royal House was on the Russian throne (Like in Britain)
    - What if Russia was able to colonize further into North America and was able to develope the Region?
    - What if Luxemburg didn't lost Bohemia?
    - What if imperial china never fell/ was able to colonize and westernize (Qing on it's largest extent) and so werr able to rival europa and japan/was able to hold them out of their sphere and never lost any territory at all, maybe where also able to grow
    - What if the Dual Empire between France and Germany happened? Thats a short scenario i saw on reddit. The scenario is like this: A french phyrrhic victory in the battle of Leipzig lead to a Hohenzoller-Bonaparte Alliance.
    - What if the catholics won the 30 years war?
    - What if the Netherlands lost their revolution?
    - What if there was never a spanish Austrian Habsburg split?
    - What if the Bourbons never took over spain?
    - What if no european power outside the HRE got involved in the 30 years war?
    - What if there was never the free and slave state system, instead slavery in all US States?
    - What if the Lands of Preußen and Pommerian got inherited by the Habsburgs?
    - What if Karl V never split up his lands between his brother and his son, instead giving Austria, Spain and the HRE to his son?
    - What if then Yuan Dynasty never fell/ stayed in power until the time where the Qing Dynasty took over?
    - What if China became Christian?
    - What if the allies conquered Berlin first?
    - What if the allies never supported the UDSSR during WW2 instead fight germany independend from Russia?

That's a very interesting alternative history, the connection with Hanover isn't given much thought here in the UK, as the focus on that period tends to be on the Empire. Really everything else would flow from the impact on unification. It might actually have had very little, Britain was in favour of a strong Germany as a counter balance to France and Russia, it conceivable that Victoria might have given up the crown of Hanover, remember she was influential but she did not decide British policy, and not being involved too closely in European matters.
Its also possible that Bismark might well have used force to take Hanover, gambling Britain would not fight for it, and he might have been right. That though would have permanently soured relations and may have brought forward Britain's move to closer relations with France and Russia. That might have brought forward the conditions that resulted in WW1, to give us a much earlier war.

Pretty crazy that during WW2 the British military was bombing the sites of it's own royalty, and the origin area of the Saxons. The British Monarch is all from Germany, and the Angle and Saxon settlers originate from Germany as well. Ironically post WW2 a British military man saved VW and helped it stay alive by producing military vehicles for the Allied occupation force as well as civilian vehicles. Similar to how the US contracted Toyota during the occupation of Japan and after, to build American jeeps under license for the Korean War and the patrol of the DMZ, those Jeep copies became the basis for what would become the FJ, which would go on to become the grandfather to all Toyota SUVs such as the Landcruiser.

Think about what would've happened if Britain kept Hanover.
    1. Germany would not have unified, therefore WW1 and by extension WW2 wouldn't have happened.
    2. If America had stayed loyal instead of being treacherous swine, slavery would've ended 30 years before the US outlawed it and the US Civil War wouldn't have happened.
    3. As the militarisation and manufacturing capacities of the USSR only happened because of WW2, the USSR would be nothing to compared to the British Empire if it had retained the USA, therefore the Cold War and threat of nuclear war wouldn't exist.
    4. Russia not having any real power would mean that they wouldn't be able to arm countries in the middle-east, leading to no Middle-Eastern "forever wars".
    5. Vietnam wouldn't have happened
    6. China wouldn't be a threat due to isolation
In short, The British Empire did nothing wrong. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Up to 1918 the Guelph Party had four seats in the German Parliament, advocated separation from Prussia and some restoration of the Guelph Dynasty. After WW1 there was a petition for a separate German state of Hanover but it did not reach a majority in a referendum. After WW2 the Hanoverians wished again and the British grant their wish for a few months after which Hanover became part of Lower Saxony.

Britain did not have a claim to Hanover. The kings of Britain starting with George I were also kings of Hanover. That the same person is monarch of both countries does not mean one country owns the other.
Hanover followed Salic law, under which a woman cannot be the monarch. So when Queen Victoria ascended to the British throne, her uncle became king of Hanover.

London couldn't have been happier with the results of Sallic Law severing ties between the personal union of both Hanover and Britain bc it meant tying itself firmly to the continent whereas many elites in Britain had wanted to keep itself out as much as possible.

I think that if the Nazis were still to rise to power, in this alternate timeline Hanover might’ve been a major to the Nazi’s side because after a whole, say 1934, there’d likely be frequent revolutions popping up in Hanover due to hatred towards German fascism and how many Hanoverians would’ve wanted Hanover to remain independent. This combined with fact Hanover would’ve been everything Hitler hated, would likely left Hanover frequently suppressed which I believe would spark a Hanoverian War of Independence, it would’ve been extremely brutal and draw the attention of foreign nations, (I’m going with if Hanover wins here) the following treaty would likely see Germany be forced to recognise Hanoverian independence and remove German troops from Hanoverian soil. Afterwards, because Hitler wouldn’t have likely wanted history to repeat itself, he’d temporarily forget about Hanover and expand Germany into Austria, Czechoslovakia and Poland, thus starting WWII, like in our timeline, the only difference being that Britain and France intervene in Germany (and Italy)’s expansion policy sooner because they would’ve fully remilitarised in the Hanoverian War of Independence, (appeasement was meant to simply buy time for Britain and France to remilitarise) before occupying France and maybe annexing Hanover unless the Hanoverians already heavily fortify their defences. If that happens with Hanover surviving the German invasion and helping the allied powers take down Nazi Germany, I’d expect a fifth occupation zone of Germany, with that one belonging to Hanover, which also annex some extra territory. The Cold War would play out as usual, with the only difference being Hanover likely joining NATO and the EU, as well as getting involved in the Korean War and Vietnam War and the rest of the timeline would play out as normal, just with Hanover being independent.

I think your overlooking that a common monarch doesn't mean any unified state or Britain controlling Hanover. The possession of the region was controversial in Britain in the 18thC as a number of prominent political figures objected to the idea of Britain being pushed into wars which were seen as being supported by the king to secure/expand his Hanoverian kingdom.
However going with the option you have and Hanover staying under Vicky and Albert rather than the ultra-conservative Ernest who overthrew the more liberal elements in the Hanoverian constitution could make for an interesting situation when the mid-19thC pressures for social change lead to things like the 1848 revolts and then if Bismarck still comes to power in Germany. A liberal Hanover linked to the most powerful state in the world at the time - albeit it couldn't match the Prussian army in the short term - would complicate matters for people like Bismarck greatly. It could well still side with Austria in an 1866 equivalent but might be more successful even without direct British support. Also could well escape the OTL annexation since that would be a continued sore point both in occupied Hanover as it would be to the locals and in terms of British-Prussian relations. It might even be a factor bringing Britain into a Franco-Prussia/German war as Britain sees the chance to liberate the region.
Anyway a hell of a lot would be different even if large scale forces seek to drive the key events as OTL.

Hitler entered Germany through Bavaria. He used to live in Austria before. At this point, there are two paths: Nazi uprising start in Germany, putting Himmler as the chanceler, the anchluss of Bavaria (still communist) before Austria, leading to the USSR joining and Bavaria gaining all of southern Germany in the end of the war, or Bavaria turning Fascist, the Nazi party being banned in the Weimar Republic, and eventually leading to the annexation of Bavaria.

Maybe Britain would allow German Unification after the First World if and only if Hanover became the German heartland and seat of government, its democracy under Hanoverian leadership being placed in charge. It may also be interesting how such reparations would flow out of the rest of germany into Hanover in tue post war years and how or if Hanover would turn it over to britain or use it themselves.

Sorry to be a nerd saying "um, actually," but...
Even under a semi-Salic succession, Victoria still COULD NOT become Queen of Hanover. There was still an active male line through the Duke of Cumberland (as there still is), so in order for her to succeed, the Cumberland line MUST become extinct. Even if we wipe out the Cumberland line, Hanover (if still around by 1952) would still split from Britain & be ruled by the Duke of Gloucester as King Henry.
The nature of personal unions is that they are generally ruled separately, & you are very optimistic on the Germans simply tolerating this uprooting of their traditional laws of succession because "modern".
Other than that, I thought it was great video. I'm sorry if the above sounds overly critical - I'm a real nerd, & I can get very nitpicky.

I'd don't it's very likely William IV would have changed the Salic law in Hanover. I think it's more likely that George IV, while he was regent might have changed the law to allow his daughter, Princess Charlotte to inherit. If it wasn't changed back after she died in childbirth, then ultimately Victoria would have inherited.

a liberal hanover for germans in 1848 would result in a less populated us and much more populated germany. Britain could also install the king of Hanover as the Kaiser in a consititional role and curb france's bloodlust seeing their ties to the now leader of germany.
This overpopulated germany still needs expansion room so they might buy land from other europeans.

You can also turn it around: The British royal family is a German house of monarchs - Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha. So a German royal house is ruling Britain for the rest of the monarchy's life there :P
IF they would rule about old saxon territories in good old Germany then it is not a Britain family is ruling in or about German territory, it is just a sort of "coming home" to their ancestors roots.

With Bavaria being independent in this scenario...there is no guarantee that they would join in WW1. They may just sit it out. The Austrian Corporal started his rise to power in a united Germany, but specifically in Bavaria. Bavaria being independent puts a HUGE hurdle in Uniting all "German" speaking people's and would probably prevent the Austrian Corporal from gaining enough power to pull off what he did in our time line. I also suspect the Bavarian dialect of German would become even more distinct than it is now, possibly becoming its own language by our time.

One big butterfly is the almost WWI in the early 1860’s, with the CSA, UK and France against USA, Prussia and Russia, with the following flash points:
    Trent Affair
    Battle of Antitem
    Polish uprising in Jan 1863
Russian offer to join Prussia in a war against France and Austria to unify Germany in summer 1863 after the twin disasters of Gettysburg and Vicksburg and Poland was crushed.
In particular the last is the most dangerous. OTL Bismarck rejected because he wanted to unify Germany alone, but in this case that would be impossible. As such, Bismarck may accept this.

I imagine opening a war in North Germany might lead to the war ending earlier because, the Germans where winning on all fronts, which meant all negotiations with them was difficult because they where winning, and in the later years Germany at the bare minimum wanted Belgium as a puppet, but with a British invasion of the north and major city's captured, its possible Germany might except a more reasonable peace, not to mention untilled number of men and resources being pulled from both the west and eastern fronts, who's to say what the war looks like
