    Keeping that 7/8 riff going while Robert is playing 13/8 is disorienting enough, but then he has to sing on top of it all. It's such an amazing feat and probably why he only does it twice during the song. Amazing talent.

    • @magicienblanc
      @magicienblanc 5 месяцев назад +14

      Happens a few times throughout, at the beginning, around the 2:00 mark and at the end, you can hear it. Essentially they start out playing the same thing in 7/8 or you can also think of it like 14/8 then Fripp just removes a note from the phrase and it becomes 13/8 for him while Adrian continues playing 7/8 (14/8) @@tcdirks

      Nah, not for Adrian, he's such an agreeable, fun guy. The ability to make your guitar sound like circus animals and sing like David Byrne with an extra half octave or so of high range never hurt his career. He was great with KC, Frank Zappa, and Bowie, amongst others.
      You make a good point though. John Wetton was always a cool cucumber on stage, a total professional. He constructed top notch basslines and has one of the most identifiable singing voices in rock.

      There was a brief period when AB was being considered as a replacement for David Byrne in Talking Heads. Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth were fed up with Byrne’s ego and Brian Eno’s overbearing studio presence. They wanted to send Byrne/Eno packing and install the much more agreeable and controllable Belew as their lead singer/guitarist.
      The vocal similarities of Byrne and Belew are quite remarkable. Would it have worked? Probably not. Byrne was the creative force behind Talking Heads and most of their catalog had been written by him. At the very least, it would’ve been interesting to see how that might have played out.
      LSS, Chris and Tina screwed AB out of some songwriting credits on the first Tom Tom Club album and he politely declined their offer to replace Byrne, opting instead for the KC frontman job. No surprise, there. Shortly thereafter, Eno became bored with African polyrhythms and moved on. Byrne kept his position as Head Head and the rest, as they say, is history.

    Not only great musicianship, but they also were so good-looking at the Levin/Belew era

    There's such an edge of tension to this not present in the recorded version. At any time there could be this snap of the string, a single wrong note throwing off the entire spectacle and pattern of the thing yet it never happens, it's exhilarating as it is tiring

    Back in the day....when I was 18 going-on 45....This was just the type of track I liked on my 'Whistle Test' prog on Tuesday nights.......that I wan't sure until years later whether it was Shite...or Unbelievably FANTASTIC. - Obviously 'Unbelievably Fantastic' was my Conclusion.
