Building Glitterbomb 1.0 with Mark Rober
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 окт 2024
- Mark came to me with an idea and a design. Who knew a simple idea could turn out to be such a complicated device? Go check out Mark's video to see it in action - • Glitter Bomb 1.0 vs Po...
It was fun being able to bring Marks concepts, designs, and ideas to reality, and together work to solve each problem as they arose. If you want to learn more about the arduino code or the schematics of the device. Head to the github link below. More documentation may be added in the future!

That nod to the slo-mo guys is fantastic sir.
How much to make me 1?
@@michaelsmith483 budget revenge setup buy some fart spray, flip it upside down empty can of Co², puncture a point of can, drain into box with a good gasket and put lid on it finish the exterior (fake label and packing tape), let sit for a few hours, place on location (doorstep) preferably on a hot day. Good chance someone opening it will lead to them losing their last meal. If you want a recording add SBC light sensor and code to take pictures when any light detected. You will like never get phone back. Use Tasker to trigger RUclips live instead of SBC if you have a device with a good light sensor on it.
You've linked your Instructables and such, but this project isn't on any of them; will you guys be releasing any of the files to make these ourselves? I want to make one to educate my local Chicagoans the hard way, it's so bad here I've had to get a PO Box, there's *so* much karma due out here.
Cari Garafalo I like you. 😆😂🤣
You should sell those
Pls
Yes!!! Please!!!
The phones would make it really expensive. Another video solution could be done, though.
Please
RockenOsprey83 arm them before sending them off ;)
Should have put a speaker in there...after the initial sequence...that announced..."SELF DESTRUCTING IN 5..4..3..2..1...."😄
Thats a great idea.
😂😂😂😂💀
And have a relay or something that goes "click", and then nothing.
Then have it play a massive 'wet fart' sound (one of those cheap, low voltage class D amps) before releasing the fart spray.
Praveen Ayyanar yes!
As I said on Mark's channel too, this thing is freaking awesome. The most satisfying thing ever...!!
Yeah, with a bunch of paid actors. It is an interesting Ad
When are you gonna sell it? You could start a company that sells creative prank items. I’ll be your number one customer all times lol
Haha, believe it or not, I'm not that much of a prankster. I love a good engineering challenge. But I think this video gives enough away that others could technically replicate it if they wanted to.
@@SeanHodgins Would love a weblink with more specific build information. :) Great work, I hope you turn the video over to the police for prosecution.
Perhaps he's not making it because it could be a liability issue? If or when this product becomes too popular, it could probably be misused.
Subscribed. I want to see your next build from the source! :)
Matthias Wandel Thanks Mattias! I won’t disappoint.
Need to make a new version using wood built hardware now that shoots very fine saw dust. :D
I was also hoping for a little more depth in the design of this beauty.
Awesome work, Sean! I've been following your channel for quite a while and am really excited for you to see this collaboration. What an amazing project! I certainly hope more people see this video and discover your channel.
Great to see you here. Love your videos and looking forward for more. Maybe an extension of the parity video ? :)
Wow, Thanks Ben. I'm a fan of your work as well. Let me know if you ever want to collab or work on something together.
That’s how I found this channel. Well done sir. Great build.
@@SeanHodgins Awesome. I'd love to collab some time. I'm planning to get back to video-making after the holidays. Let's figure something out.
@@BenEater Sounds good! I have some ideas.
youre a legend!!
Dude, right back at you! Love your content.
nice work Sean. I was the packaging engineer that designed the homepod packaging :)
That was a pain to take apart! You use some good double sided tape to hold that injection molded plastic in there.
yeah believe me that was a tough project. homepod is a heavy product and needs to withstand some high drop heights. and thats not injection molded plastic thats a thermoform :)
I want to see the nastier / meaner iteration with dye pack/paint “bomb”, something that will for sure ruin the thief’s day or even week.
Now you sir are a genius. Please take my money!!!!!
Yeah that's what I'm working on figuring out. I want it super low tech and low cost and can be slaped together in minutes and mass produced and still totally train wreck their car or house. As bad ass as this is, it's costly and complex. I'm thinking pin pull spray paint cans. Imagin three spray paint cans dumping their entire contents into a car soon as the lid is removed lol. That's justice. Glitter is irritating. Spray paint is more permanent.
@@joespawldin7833 Easy to do. Cheap Arduino clone + limit switches + cheap servos. Oh, and Google "3d spray paint servo".
Dont use spray cans.Just buy bulk enamel paint.Imagine it just spraying/pumping a entire one pint can of paint out of the device.
Joe Spawldin a box with a lid that have holes on the bottom. lid is long sleeve and plugs those holes, when lid is lifted holes unclog and.... paint is flowing off
This build is GOLD!! Best thing ever! My kids loved the design. You have their wheels spinning! It's extra special since they recognized the location that Mark planted it in!
Ha, you didn't think anybody would notice the title change to 1.0... but I did ;)
Would love to see more of these BTS videos, in case you've got one ready for 4.0!
The one downvote somehow has glitter all over their mouse.
They're better off then me, its been months and I still wake up with glitter on my face.
I see 4 downvotes... and 4 thieves in the original video... co-in-cidence?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@SeanHodgins you stole your own package?
Haha
Just discovered this video years after it was all released. Very cool to see!
At witch price would you sell the complete project datas that i can build that with my students?
@@Aeon2 look, no one cares, it's the internet, people misspell all the time + autocorrect sometimes messes up words a bit
@@Aeon2 maybe English isn't his first language
How's your back pain, Coach Moser?
@Mastema Yeah I was looking for it.. lol
Could have used Tasker to launch RUclips and start recording live to RUclips studio.
Haha, imagine the thief getting notified of their own reaction.
Omg yes😂😂
Dude! Been watching you since the $5 fidget spinner. My heart skipped a beat when he said you were helping him! Awesome work man. 👌
Thanks! It was super fun working with Mark Rober.
Found Mark's video before watching yours Sean. Epic work, very proud of your efforts!
Thanks Stephen. I have a hard time keeping the stuff I'm working on a secret!
1000th like! Great job, Sean.
Thanks Becky!
Should have added sneeze powder to that glitter... The gift that keeps on giving. 😈
Thats pretty evil. The fart spray is awful though. I couldn't stand it.
Better yet, add itching powder to the mix. Itchy, sneezy porch pirate.
And permanent dye
I saw your video featured in a BBC article and felt obligated to subscribe. This might be the funniest thing to ever happen.
Thanks for helping Mark with this project. We all appreciate your expertise, passion, and time and effort you put into this!
Thanks, it was a lot of fun, and it was great to be a part of this project.
haha awesome!!!!
Thanks Jimmy!
Can i somewhere ge the 3d files and the circuit files plsss
zacharias pap
10/10 would like this
Would love to have this too. Definitely would consider building a few for friends and family.
DalamarML me too plz. How much?
I need this too
The unsung hero! This project is perfection, well done my dude.
Thanks!
Amazing work
Whoa, right back at ya!
If the thief tipped the package over, would the glitter (mostly) stay confined to the cup, or would it just go everywhere and not get flung?
-never mind, found a comment stating foam in the top of the box keeps the glitter in
Yeah we had to make sure it would be shake proof. We had no idea when or how many days it would be sitting around until the thief opened it.
Nice work dude
Thanks! Need any custom custom stuff made? haha
You’re the newest Avenger in my book! Amaze balls!
So many talented people...
Could not find anything for this on your GitHub, hackaday, or instructionable. Would be nice to have the code and cad/stl files
This was a build for Mark, so they will not be public through me.
@@SeanHodgins Could you contact him and ask if he minds if code and files are published. I'm sure there are some of people that could benefit from it.
@@SeanHodgins his video has millions of views, he'll not likely see our request.
@@TragoudistrosMPH Mama always said "It never hurts to ask"!
@@SeanHodgins Yeah, I got super excited when I saw the GitHub & Instructables links in the description. It would be amazing if you could bug Mark to make this stuff available - save everyone else 6mo of development time. Of course, even with all the Gerber, CAD, etc, I imagine it would take some expertise to build, but a working example would make cobbling a basic model together easier too.
And in any case, thank you the other contributions you have made to open source!
This deal was TOTALLY RAD! I saw the finished product and HILARIOUS about the jerks stealing the packages! GREAT WORK! Anybody who disliked this vid is probably a package thief or other low life?
Instead of glitter I'd put sugar. Because that is how you get ants.
I can only imagine.
I would love to order one
If you are wondering what parts were used in this, I made a list www.makerspartlist.com/list?id=cjpt4kh6600z509547plrkc9p
This was a very well designed and engineered tool of havoc! I really appreciate it's simplicity. If this were up for sale I would buy 2 of them..
You and mark are geniuses!!
This is an awesome project! I'm looking forward for what you come up with next. :)
Developing a simple Android application that uses the native Camera API would have given you the desired finer control of the device. I'm sure you weighed the options but I still wanted to point this out since to me at least the video gave an impression that this was not possible (at all).
Much Respect Sean! inspired me to go back to my engineering courses
I think you could sell these in a smaller package that just pops glitter and fart spray with no recording. I would set one out everyday. I don't care for the footage, I will just laugh knowing someone got messed up.
Haha pure evil. I have a fear of glitter now.
@@SeanHodgins - PTGS - Post Traumatic Glitter Syndrome
Or just be satisfied with audio recording only, cheaper, but may get a laugh if you get it back. Still needs GPS for location though, unless you can use a WT (walkie talkie) with VOX (can be triggered electronically) as some sort of locator and remote audio listener (range only a couple miles at best though).
You two are my favourite RUclipsrs
This video needs 5 Million or more views..
Share it! :)
Just two things...
1. Did you consider propelling the glitter with the exhaust from a carbon dioxide cylinder - it would likely have sent the glitter much higher...
Which leads to:
2. If you get the glitter going high enough, why not add a can of spray adhesive that goes off first... put the nozzle on a stalk and rotate that, then propel the glitter with carbon dioxide.
I just watched mark’s video and it was hilarious!
Is this enough evidence to cause an arrest?
Not a lawyer, yet.
SeanHodgins This is a “only in America” problem, but I’m surprised how many people do this.
@@Benjy52 what, thieves don't exist in other countries?!?
@@mtcruse in my country, they don't leave deliveries at the door. Instead, deliveries are made in the evenings after work hours if it is to a residence and at an agreed time when you will be home to receive it. If you are not there, then the package will be brought to the company's nearest office.
@@mtcruse yeah and in my if you arent there to receive it the postman just leaves a note that you can turn in at the nearest post office to get the package
I hope they learned their lesson , seriously . That much glitters everywhere in their cars won't be easy to clean XD
Have you guys considered adding a louvered lid to the cup, constricting the flow and increasing the velocity, possibly increasing the glitter radius?
AMAZING!
Ishwar would be proud !!
If we could only turn idiot thieves into raving buffoons at our will... Justice served!! Well done Sean! May I suggest a small upgrade? How about a nice fine mist of super glue to go with that glitter? Those bung holes would be screwed for days... Love it!
I would love to see a simplified version without phones and maybe GPS so it would be cheaper and I would still be able to ruin the day of a robber, or just the original stuff so I could try something by myself
well see... haha
@@SeanHodginsI wouldn't dare to say "low budget version" but one without 4 phones filming (maybe just one for recovery) which would probably reduce its size and weight considerably... Or you could parent that and sell different versions cuz we want that
Exploding container filled with a gass of your own choice, varying from butyric acid to HCN
@@Ed19601 that's a nice way to get arrested, be sure to record it all and show us when you test it tho
@@user-px1hr6bt4l darn, always some law standing in the way of justice :-)
Nicely done. I expected the camera trigger to be a lot more complicated. Great use of existing tools!
The complicated part is definitely in the phone software we had to design inside of the App automate.
@@SeanHodgins I thought for sure that the board was controlling the phones via usb. You came up with a great workaround. I'd love to see what you did with the software.
interesting,good job Sean
This is awesome! There is nothing worse than trying to clean up glitter... It's there for eternity lol
I still find it everywhere, just from testing this!
@@SeanHodgins you guys are amazing keep up the good work and keep the videos coming!
Definitely need to make a Kik starter for selling these! You could have different box designs and dementions, as well as different consequences like glitter/noise/smell/slime ect.. I would pay for it!
AWESOME :3 I love the stuff you are doing :D
From mark, awesome engineering!!!
This made my year!
On the internet.
Good thing it was released so late in the year!
Hey! You should put in a mini GPS tracker with the glitter so people don’t know they can be tracked as well. Then, not only do you get your package back, but you find the thief.
Mark used one as a backup, in combination of the phones GPS location. He knew where the package was at all times.
SeanHodgins - yes I saw it, but for all those who opened it in a car (rather than home), it would get stuck in the car and you could track down the car and get the license plate number.
You should make a version 2 with more surprises for the package thieves.
I saw the original. Great work.
Yet for package thieves I favor a simpler design: a box with a handgrenade and the pin attached to the lid. No need for footage, tracking or retrieval
Really great work. It would be great to see a version working on a Pi 3 that was more affordable to make. Any idea if you will be sharing your 3d and Arduino files? I would love to make one for a friend.
I didn't see any fasteners, like the little plastic stickers on the bottom of the box.. What if they flip it upside down. Won't all of the glitter fall out of the cup, and reduce the effectiveness of the first glitter spray greatly?
There is a piece of foam that presses into the top and holds glitter in the cup, so it can be moved around and no glitter falls out until its opened. Its basically impossible to open this kind of box upside-down because you need gravity to allow the inner box to fall out.
SeanHodgins brilliant! Seriously dude please make a cheaper version of this. I will buy one. Maybe two. Had a curiosity how much did it cost you to make?
Awesome build. Do you have any project files posted?
No sorry, the design files currently are not available, I might go over how the Arduino code words and stuff though.
@@SeanHodgins that is really what I am after. With all the old Android phones I have sitting around.
Anyone here after watching how great glitter bomb in solving crime lol thanks man. I hope we can get some sneak oeak how to create glitter bomb 3.0
I wish you had included more technical details like the reprogramming process of the buttons or the Arduino code. I came to your channel after watching mark's vid and that what I was expecting tbh.
Sometimes I feel like I ramble too much. Depends on the project really.
Add this to the glitter mix (found on Amazon) Visible Stain Theft Detection Powder - Purple and/or Fluorescent Powder, 100g Professional Luminescent Pigments Phosphorescent Color Photoluminescence Non-toxic Strontium Aluminate Neon Lights Nights in Dark Pigments(Blue Green)
Same type of dye used in bank exploding dye packs stains everything and the other will make them glow in Black UV light. They can vacuum up the glitter, but they will be identifiable.
If banks are allowed to do it...
Wish there was a way to use like a web cam or something to make something like this. Minus the glitter. Mail theft is a major issue and the cops are next to useless...theyll even wrongly accuse people rather then actually do anything. It be nice to learn this stuff so I could build my own to get down to whos stealing stuff.
My take is a bit different, with pneumatic system. CO2 cartridge provides power for the glitter flinger/balloon of surprise, and continues to activate until the time is up and a failsafe spike is deployed to pop the balloon.
CO2 cartridges came up in discussion, but a pressurized vessel seemed a little too dangerous in the hands of strangers. Your idea sounds hilarious! Really clever.
Balloon just for a loud pop?
@@michaelsmith483 In my idea, it also contains the surprise, such as glitter. As balloon exceeds its limit and bursts, it emits a loud sound and flings its content around.
@@SeanHodgins I take it you wouldn't be in favour of some industrial grade fireworks igniting in the package either?
I WANT THIS FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!

Oh man - you guys need to sell this as a kit - This is pure AWESOME in a box! Great job on your engineering!
You're brilliant!!!!
Four phones, 3D printing, arduino plus modules , and motor plus spinner. The build cost alone may push stealing this into a felony. Hindsight 20/20, Video was of limited value as faces could not be shown. Audio was funnier. Nice work but a little too pricey to lose.
The cost of the unit may have been part of the plan, as leverage to get it back. ;)

Wonder if adding a 12g co2 cartridge to the glitter blender would improve dispersal.
I like your thinking, although would need to replace C02 every time
@@slightlyokvideos you charge the battery, refill the glitter and replace the fart spray everytime no?
We were trying to avoid the actual "bomb" aspect. haha But it did come up!
SeanHodgins Did the fart spray just keep spraying until it ran out?
should have made the cup deeper.. and introduced ink as well as that spray.. and a noise maker.
in order of execution..
spray
ink
glitter.
