Looks like a big welding project!
However its only metal and the rest of the car looks complete. ✌
I wish I had shown the back underneath, it was pretty bad. Worse than the front.
Hay it was worth a shot.
Absolutely Doug, I had to check it one more time it was really bothering me.
Sir Slade: we all have to pick our battles. Better ones will come along. Maybe a transplant from CA or AZ that was garaged in the Northeast? All the best!
Thanks Daniel, it definitely was in much worse condition than I realized. Especially the back underneath I didn’t get to film.
nice job.
Thank you my friend.
Happy Fathers' Day everyone!
Thanks very much! Happy Father’s Day!
Great job! I'm very interested in this car if you get it. I have never had one so the differences you will come across will be great adventure!
I actually did a little research, they really don’t make very much for this car. Sadly I really like it but I had to part ways.
You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done
So true Mike! Now that song is stuck in my head lol
Hey brother. I’m in process of restoring a squareback and I’m a town over from you in Belle vernon. I’ve done some deals with Evan as well. I say that car is definitely worth grabbing don’t sweat the beam just go t1 conversion and rest is just making panels. Nothing is really available outside of pans ispwest has some stuff but it’s few and expensive. Check rockers that’s the hardest part imo. Thanks for videos hope to met you someday!
Hi Dan, and thanks for being here. I truly appreciate it. Oddly enough I was just looking at some houses on a realtor app over your way. I didn’t get to film the rear, it was pretty rotted out underneath or I would’ve kept it.
Those are rare. Anything can be fixed, worth it if it can be had for the right price.
Jason would buy it lol !!
I really wish I could have cut the car. There’s no doubt everything to be fixed. Just a little harder to find parts for this car.
@@SladesVWBeetle Agree
The fastbacks are pretty cool. I'd pick it up if the price is right.
Thanks CT, yes they are really cool. Towards the end I realized what he actually did want was a little high for what needed done.
I’m sure someone might have a front clip ? But still a rare Vw and it’s there waiting to be saved . Maybe buy it and whilst working on other projects gather up the parts needed ?
I wished I could’ve, very hard to get body parts around here. I should have filmed the underneath in the back, it was really bad, worse than the front.
I have 2 fastbacks - a 71 and a 66. I would not worry about the bumper. An easy fix. The inner front fenders all seem to have some sort of rot - especially PA and Ohio cars. They are easy patches - or if you wanted - fab up new panels. Not sure if anyone sells the inner panels economically. The frame head doesn't look that bad. The front ends are hard to find. If you change your mind, I can turn you on to type 3 guys that have parts.
Thanks for chiming in Tim, I truly appreciate that.
The front end didn’t concern me too bad. And I was able to locate a really nice beam.
I didn’t get to film the rear end underneath. It was completely rotted out. I was really bummed out, I think my wife would’ve enjoyed driving that daily.
@@SladesVWBeetle my 71 I bought out of Baden. It had set in a garage since 1980. The back has a few issues like you described and it had only been on the road for all of 9 years. I have acquired front fenders ( already installed ) and rear fenders (yet to be installed). There are vulnerable spots on fastbacks and if they have been used in high salt winter areas, it will be evident. I am still in a conundrum about whether to keep the factory FI or switch to dual carbs. Finding economical dual carbs is quite a task.
@@timothyrinker4974 Sadly I wished I took the chance on it. Baden is about 1 hour from me. I think the Fastback are very unique!
Sad to have to pass but as an owner of a long term welding project, it would be best to keep looking. There must be a few million VWs out there hidden away in barns and sheds.
You’re so right my friend, I didn’t even get to show the backend underneath. It was really bad.
Looks like she would be a full body off restoration
Yes absolutely, it was much worse condition in the rear underneath, then I thought
Well, I can see your heart is in battle with your head!! I suggest you wait for a better one.....
Yes my friend, that’s exactly what I’m doing.
That's a bummer Slade but If someone gave it to me, I'd restore it. Even if it took me a year to do it. But I wouldn't be able to do my outboards which I love to do. I'm starting to get a following, commenting too so shifting gears now wouldn't be right.
After I really looked underneath it very well, especially the rear underneath that I forgot to film. It was much worse than I realized.
Hi Tony, this is a big project and will take a lot off time to do it right. I would walk away from this one. I know you don’t have a lot off opportunities to but one, but one day there will be a jewel waiting for you. To bad this one is rusted out to bad.
You’re right my friend, I did walk away. I didn’t even get to show the back underneath. It was pretty bad.
The fastback is a horse of a whole different color.
Absolutely Randall, completely different animal. Very cool looking though
I need you brother. just bought another car (like an idiot)!!!
Oh man!! Outstanding
Bummer ... but at least you found it before you invested to much.
Absolutely Matt, I needed to check it twice it was bothering me.
Sorry, bud. Honestly! It SUCKS getting your hopes up, to be let down. Like you said…fixable…for someone else.
Thank you, I forgot to film the rear underneath, it was worse than the front.
