Unless you farore's wind wrong-warp in beta quest to the leftover cutscene of you winning. He'll give you a glitch item with no icon that writes to the megaton hammer slot. If you equip the glitch item to c-right and put bottle on b, the game will write the scrapped Wind Medallion to your 3rd bottle slot. It doesn't do anything except crash the game, but it's neat to get.
WoW really? schoolyard rumors are the worst! and in that time you would believe anything! no internet no RUclips we were pretty much in the dark! i heard one about a purple tunic! and it was bananas! imagine my reaction when i saw that in smash brothers you could choose a purple link... -.- I went on a doomed quest for another month or so :'(
He does actually. If you start the race then go to the forest and see that he is already there, but don't talk to him. Then go back to the tent and he's there too. Meaning there is TWO running men, they're twins cheating you by pretending he beat you when the other twin is just waiting at the end before the race even started.
I used a gameshark code that modifies the entrances at doors.. when I leave the tent I appear in the bridge of Kokiri Forest, and there he was.. at 00:00. And he says "Your time was 00:00 but I've beat you by one second". It's impossible to win.
If you research the reason why you can't beat him. It's because of cut content from the game. If you bet the running Man he tells you about sky city . The city in the sky.
The "wait on the lost woods bridge for a week irl" rumor was created by a troll who actually made a video about it showing him turn into adult link on the lost woods bridge, and he had hacked the running man's chat text to say link beat him.
The day has come that you can beat him. After 23 years, they created the ACE program that allows you to beat the running man, discover the unicorn fountain, and the full song to song of time. Has a different ending by collecting the triforce.
The running man is unbeatable. He will ALWAYS defeat you by 1 second advantage. I tried even using a boot disc for WW-OOT for Gamecube (the ported OoT for Gamecube with the Master Quest). The boot disc was loaded with a huge shitload of cheats and tricks. Among them, a superspeed trick that allows you to run, like, REALLY fast. By using that cheat I took a mere 10 seconds to reach the goal, when I got to the goal, he said he beat me by a second (9 seconds), so no. HE CANNOT be beaten whatsoever, it was put there to troll you and test your fastest running record.
You beat him by firing an ice arrow at the wall of tent, opposite of the entrance (where he is sitting) before challenging him to a race. They even drew his shadow there. He doesn't realize his feet are frozen until after the race begins. The developers tried to give people the hint by putting the ice arrow in Gerudo Valley. That, and the fact that, you know, freezing things immobilizes them :p
The theory doesn't make sense at all. you say that if I asked him, then went back in time and waited for 7 years he would be there. The problem is if I wait there for 7 years, I would have never challenged him since I would still be standing there on the bridge. How would the running man know a race has started if you never met up with him?
+UndeadShadowHunter because while your future self is challenging him you are waiting . so there are two of you in the same time. in fact if this works it would be posible to go and see yourself. but is not true due to programming
Have you ever tried meeting the running man as child link while he was running around the ranch instead of the going to the lost woods. I never realized you could go back in time after the race started
considering the way it works is by loading him into the area when you load the bridge as adult link while in the race he will always beat you by 1 second, even if you cheated and froze the clock at 00 he would have taken -1 second to get there
I used a game glitch to stop the timer and reach it in 10 seconds and still couldn't defeat him. The glitch consisted on making the game think link is underwater while he is not so the oxigen timer would trigger. at the end of the race i remove the oxigen timer and the running hasn't advanced one second. still, as i said, he was there in 9 seconds
That must've took some thinking! Did you use the glitch that allows Link to swim on land? If so, how would you get to where you need to go before the timer ran out and you drowned?
I used the glitch where you save your game while fighting Ganon and lose your sword, then save and reset the game. Having Link in the game without a sword equipped causes a lot of glitches to happen, specially when using the hookshot while riding epona. Point is that after starting the race you put link underwater at the river below the bridge and with the glitch the game will not stop the timer, so you can race home with the underwater timer that stops the race timer because the game cannot have two timers at once.
I heard that in the txt dump for this game. That there isn't even a message for winning this mini game type thing. There is no way to beat him. There have been people who used the Action Replay for Gamcube who made the time 0:00 and he still beats you by a second.
+Mark Bell So the running man can also travel through time... No ocarina, no nothing. Imagine playing OOT as that guy! What a joke. Why can't my mailman be that quick? XP
+Jad The thing is, there are really 2 of them. 1 is at gerudo and the other, at kokiri. Thats why he gives you a head start and thats why he always manages to beat you by a second without you ever seeing him pass you.
@ZWNetwork Thanks you this. Could you also test out the thery that if you get there in EXACTLY a minuet he says you've discovered his secret and says he retires from racing?
He runs really fast thanks to the bunny ears you give him as a kid. The solution is to just borrow your own set of bunny ears from the salesman and then you can be faster than him.
@JonoFinley silver saddle? i've had this game for 10 years now and i've never heard of a silver saddle. is it in one of the re-releases or the n64 version too?
fun fact, the running man appears in super mario sunshine as il piantissimo. It has been discovered that if u can hack the game and remove his pianta mask, his exact original model for zelda will be revealed, only, darker toned.
When the runner was younger (and Link also) and he ran in Hyrule field, he would at a certain time sit down to rest, and so when he was older and wanted to race Link i tried to run at the time i had believe he would sit down. But i had no luck winning, maybe someone else will?
I've seen a video where a guy somehow made the timer show 0:00 seconds and when he got there the running man said he beat him by one second and got there in -0.01 seconds or something. so yeah no matter what it's not possible.
You have to have gotten the Giants Knife but dont use it. It breaks if you do. Then after you get in the tent and see him, dont talk to him yet! First you have to
Maybe I've found the solution...Young Link will always bump into the running man working out in Hyrule field, so it means that he's definetely unbeatable as long you you get Hyrule field to reach Lost Woods. The logic is to find another path letting Adult Link get Lost Woods without crossing Hyrule Field...Thus, why don't simply jump into the river,, ending up in Lake Hylia, take the shortcut to Zora s domain and then use the shortcut to Lost Woods? Once Link finds himself in Lost Woods, you have only to enter Kokiri Village and eventually take the lead to the bridge. Basically you will approach the bridge in the opposit way people wrongly does ...Let me know...
"some people theorize that this is hinting at the mailman in majoras mask. he actually is the same model as the mailman, but i just believe it's a messup in the game design." It's not a messup in the game design. Termina (where you are in MM) is a paralell universe to Hyrule. That's why you recognize so many characters there. The reason the developers did that is because they wanted to quickly make another Zelda game, so they re-used a lot of models from OoT
The game was obviously programmed so that if the timer is active, a clone if the running man will appear at the lost woods. One of his in game models will appear at the Gerudo place with the "I'll give you a head start" text and another in the lost woods with either the "I only beat you by one second" or "I beat you" text. He is programmed to load in the lost woods when you enter it and if the timer is active. He doesn't go there, he is already there.
Almost got beaten to it, but the other guys got some info wrong, such as not knowing what Majora was supposed to be (Zelda Gaiden, the lesser known unreleased add-on), or the Bunny Hood and it's already prominent relation to the Running Man and it's use in Majora.
I'm just taking a shot in the dark here but what if you find him running in hyrule field as child link before the timer expires? I know it sounds stupid at first but 1/1000000 shots have worked out in my favor before.
If you mean where it come from, it's from Pokemon. If you mean where you can get it, you can't right now. Because the whole picture is nowhere on the internet right now. The author uploaded it once to Pixiv, but deleted his profile later. And there are no reuploads anywhere.
actually you can wrap to the first temple, all you have to do is after you beat the forest temple go back to the first first temple in the village and you get to play the teleport music for it. -_-
i really want to see someone hack the game so they get to the bridge in 0 seconds and the running man will either say "you win" or "i got here in -1 seconds, therefore i win" i think that would be hilarious
when i was little, the rumour was that you could unlock new boots that made you go really fast, and you got them from a secret room in ganons tower guess i was being lied too.
how so? watching the things happen from the worlds timeline/perspective a young link uses the shrine to warp to the future (first time you warp) and reappears again instantly (you after you challenged him and went back to time) and goes tot he bridge to wait. seven years later adult link appears at the shrine (you warping to the future for the first time), (does stuff), challenges the runner, heads to the shrine and disappears there.
+Hiro senpai This. I don't extensively know much about OoT's coding but from what I've gathered, it would seem to me that when you touch the loading zone to the bridge of the Lost Woods, there is a trigger for the running man to appear no matter what your time is. This is further evidenced by people being able to use warp codes to go from the tent to the bridge instantly via the tent's loading zone and get impossible times like 1 second. Any further information would be helpful.
try using th green teleport thing p,ace it exactly where he was and then use it as soon as u start the timer then boom if done quick enough he will says 000 seconds I beat you by one which is physically impossible
Wasn't the Running Man supposed to be a future side-quest to do with the N64 DD or something? Hence why it wasn't released (ooT DD) it never made it out.
theres a secret hole behind the tent!!!! play song of storms and it will appear there is a crack in the hole at the other side but idk if you can break it tell me if u can
Option 4 (best option): See what you can d with hacks. I actually used to "action replay" Ocarina all the time, it was really fun. One of the codes was "super speed" which made you run REALLY fast by holding down z (gamecube version). By aiming carefully so my "warp speed" wouldn't send me off a cliff/in the wrong direction I managed to make the race in 3 seconds. That's right, 3 seconds!!!!1!111. He claims to have taken 2. Again, this isn't some rumor, I've done it myself.
I'm new to this game. Just got a few months ago and as soon as the bridge was built the first thing I did was race. I did three races each time was faster, and now I'm here figuring out that I just wasted my time. I'm done playing for tonight smh!
In the gamecube version I've gotten there in less than 30 seconds, and gotten on the bridge before him, and still lost, even though I clearly beat him, so I totally agree with you that there is no way to beat the running man.
Wow. Interesting. I always ears that you could beat him if you got a perfect score in the gerudo shooting game and you win the silver saddle and then you could win. But I could never get a perfect score
So many things have frustrated me in OoT. The running man, The "Unicorn Fountain, and the Cuccoos. FRIGGIN CUCCOOS. Anyways, this is interesting. Now I know not to challenge the running man anymore! Thanks!
hey guys update, i played this game as a kid and still regard it as the best game of all time, i passed this video by chance and thought i'd enlighten you all.. i wondered the same thing you do, and later found out (after a lot of research) as a child that the developers of the game ran out of time to make it a proper challenge before the game's release and had only managed to complete a couple of features, hence it's unbeatability, i hope this story brings you the closure you need
I'm going to save people the effort of watching the video. No you can't.
Thank you.
Sad
yop people lie about beating he you can't never beat he normal o hack
Unless you farore's wind wrong-warp in beta quest to the leftover cutscene of you winning. He'll give you a glitch item with no icon that writes to the megaton hammer slot. If you equip the glitch item to c-right and put bottle on b, the game will write the scrapped Wind Medallion to your 3rd bottle slot. Looks like you don't have any idea what Reverse Bottle Adventure is.
The schoolyard rumor when I was a kid was that you could unlock Ganondorf's horse to beat the running man
+Timothy Yasi I remember this
+Timothy Yasi for real? u had this rumor too as a kid?
I remember that!
Timothy Y. Same nigga!I remember that
WoW really? schoolyard rumors are the worst! and in that time you would believe anything! no internet no RUclips we were pretty much in the dark! i heard one about a purple tunic! and it was bananas! imagine my reaction when i saw that in smash brothers you could choose a purple link... -.- I went on a doomed quest for another month or so :'(
Run= Fail
Epona= Fail
Wait as young link=Fail
Punch him in the face and loot him?= Win
I prefer slicing his head clean off, with daggers.
If I do so with the Master Sword, it will become as useful as a wooden sword.
17 years have passed and there's still people who think they can beat gim
Omar_Tru who’s gim?
EEW!!! I DONT WANT TO BEAT A GUY NAMED GIM!!!
3 years have passed and we still dont know who gim is
6 years on and I’m still looking for gim
Oh look, I made a joke about one missclick, look I'm very funny.
I always thought he had a fucking twin, and I would look for him around the bridge lol
He does actually. If you start the race then go to the forest and see that he is already there, but don't talk to him. Then go back to the tent and he's there too. EveninX No duh
Lol that is so rigged!
If you research the reason why you can't beat him. It's because of cut content from the game. If you bet the running Man he tells you about sky city . The city in the sky.
Wish I seen this sooner. I thought my game was broken I wasted hella time trying to beat him 3X smh
I think that the running man represents that you cant win everything and to be patient with those who anger you.
No its just trolling
That's kind of what trolling is, in essence
nintendo stated that he is not beatable, he was just there to tease you and make u try to beat ur time
The "wait on the lost woods bridge for a week irl" rumor was created by a troll who actually made a video about it showing him turn into adult link on the lost woods bridge, and he had hacked the running man's chat text to say link beat him.

Antonio Briceño
i once read someone hacked himself to 0:00 and the Running Man was at -01:00 or so
Minene Uryuu922 (previously deaththekid922) it is /
+Minene Uryuu922 thats bullshit if you beat him 0:00 it say he ran 00:0/ its buggy maybe \ is the sign before 0 and they didnt use minus Nummer

No it's impossible to beat him, no matter what he will bbe there when you get in.
The Blue Fox
I'm pretty sure I beat him using the bunny ears a long time ago. I got OOT 3ds so I'll try it out one day and let you know.
Scott Walker Some guy hacked the race to get 0.1 seconds there and the mailman was still there before him
when you beat him he upgrades the Biggoron Sword to the Blade of Time which fires beams at full health
The Blue Fox I must be thinking about something else then. Maybe MM.
The theory doesn't make sense at all. you say that if I asked him, then went back in time and waited for 7 years he would be there. UndeadShadowHunter Time travel is just one big mess.
Have you ever tried meeting the running man as child link while he was running around the ranch instead of the going to the lost woods. I never realized you could go back in time after the race started
Man Link is dedicated...goes back in time just to beat one man lol
The teleporting running man.
5:42 The running man is unbeatable even if you hack or cheat. The running man was put there to get you to beat your own record.
I remember calling Nintendo's help line when I was a kid to ask about this and whether or not you could unlock Zelda/Impa's horse. No and no.
3 years late to your post, but you were pretty clever to think about calling Nintendo as a kid. I bet the rep you talked to still chuckles about it.
I love those old rumors about OoT, it added a new curiosity to what was otherwise an old game that people would normally move past.
considering the way it works is by loading him into the area when you load the bridge as adult link while in the race he will always beat you by 1 second, even if you cheated and froze the clock at 00 he would have taken -1 second to get there

jesus hernandez I see.. Very interesting!
even if you hack the game, his new record will be either -0:00 or -0:01
The Running Man is a Hacker -_-
lol XD
he goes back in time to before the race started so he gets there in -1 seconds
+Kitchen Table actually, it will not use -, lets say that you get to the bridge with hacks in 0:00 seconds, hes time will be 0:0/
I heard that in the txt dump for this game.
XP
He beat you before you even agreed to the race. He really _is_ a time traveler.
ZA WARUDO
+Jad The thing is, there are really 2 of them. 1 is at gerudo and the other, at kokiri. Thats why he gives you a head start and thats why he always manages to beat you by a second without you ever seeing him pass you.
SleeperJ
No shit.
Oh, I finally found a video of someone saying that the running man is actually unbeatible.
You have my respect.
No matter what he will beat you by 001 second
Link: "I must beat his record!.......... I wonder what that sign says..."
@ZWNetwork
Thanks you this. Could you also test out the thery that if you get there in EXACTLY a minuet he says you've discovered his secret and says he retires from racing?
He can be beaten. But not in this game. Play Mario Sunshine and play a mission that has a small guy in a purple pianta suit.
+Michael, The Hero of the Future. What tha?!?!😂
Have you tried using the scarecrow song so that he can use the hookshot to get to the kokiri forrest faster?
I read that Shigsy put him in to train players to move quicker. Ps happy birthday Shigsy!
I’ve played oot a million times and never knew about this sidequest but after watching this I’m glad I didnt
I wasted entire afternoons trying to beat this guy
He runs really fast thanks to the bunny ears you give him as a kid. The solution is to just borrow your own set of bunny ears from the salesman and then you can be faster than him.
Actually, if you beat the game 30 times in a row without saving or dying, you can use all items in all timelines.
No dude, it's true, my cousin's boyfriend works at Nintendo of America, he showed it to me on his N64.
Infinatus the bunny ears do not increase speed in ocarina only majoras. your friend either cheated or is lying
Team Heartless he is lying
if you go benind the tent where the running man is the shard of agony will go off
@JonoFinley silver saddle? i've had this game for 10 years now and i've never heard of a silver saddle. is it in one of the re-releases or the n64 version too?
fun fact, the running man appears in super mario sunshine as il piantissimo. It has been discovered that if u can hack the game and remove his pianta mask, his exact original model for zelda will be revealed, only, darker toned.
I always thought that as long as you don't give him the bunny hood he is beatable
it does sorta make sence since you wait 7 game years (1 real day = 1 game year) that he shows up. you apear right after you started the race
this tickles my memory. I wonder if I read it in a rumorish section of nintendo power many years ago.
From what I've heard this was supposed to be another sidequest in the game, but was scratched before the release.
When I played this as a kid I always thought that the running man had a twin brother and the race was a scam.
When the runner was younger (and Link also) and he ran in Hyrule field, he would at a certain time sit down to rest, and so when he was older and wanted to race Link i tried to run at the time i had believe he would sit down. But i had no luck winning, maybe someone else will?
They're twins. They just sit there waiting for you.
I've seen a video where a guy somehow made the timer show 0:00 seconds and when he got there the running man said he beat him by one second and got there in -0.01 seconds or something. so yeah no matter what it's not possible.
sorry I mean -0:01 seconds lol
i was always thinking of some clever protean charm
Someone once theorized that The Running Man actually takes a shortcut.
I remember hearing that somewhere before.
The running man is faster than the flash.
You have to have gotten the Giants Knife but dont use it. It breaks if you do. Then after you get in the tent and see him, dont talk to him yet! First you have to
Several guys, trieds several glitches and stuff... it`s programmed, that it´s impossible

It's not a messup in the game design. Termina (where you are in MM) is a paralell universe to Hyrule. That's why you recognize so many characters there.
The reason the developers did that is because they wanted to quickly make another Zelda game, so they re-used a lot of models from OoT
even if you could beat him, what would the reward be? all the game items, heart pieces and collectibles come from other things
What about after the happy mask side quest? It's the only option not taken
The game was obviously programmed so that if the timer is active, a clone if the running man will appear at the lost woods. One of his in game models will appear at the Gerudo place with the "I'll give you a head start" text and another in the lost woods with either the "I only beat you by one second" or "I beat you" text. You have to catch him at night while he's running around hyrule field haha
Sorry i wasn't there to stop Ganondorf and save the world. I was waiting on a bridge in the woods to win a race.
- Link
I had no idea so many people had no idea that you have to use the bunny ears, and run with him. (keep him in sight)
Wow
Does not work
trolololol
Why though? That's what works.
With what you recorded?
Psychic link between twins. All Ginger twins have them. How else could Fred and George finish their sentences so well?
If you mean where it come from, it's from Pokemon. If you mean where you can get it, you can't right now. Because the whole picture is nowhere on the internet right now. The author uploaded it once to Pixiv, but deleted his profile later. And there are no reuploads anywhere.
Wait do you mean unfreeze the whole thing or unfreeze only what you can?
what is that ethernet looking thing in the corner? i've seen it a lot before.
Does anything happen if you challenge him as an adult and then go talk to him when you are a kid?
actually you can wrap to the first temple, all you have to do is after you beat the forest temple go back to the first first temple in the village and you get to play the teleport music for it. -_-
i really want to see someone hack the game so they get to the bridge in 0 seconds and the running man will either say "you win" or "i got here in -1 seconds, therefore i win" i think that would be hilarious
I saw a video and actually he says that he beat you by one second when you hack it to get there in 0 seconds
Cool video, I love ocarina of Time!! Best game ever!!
Its bad that I haven't heard of this until right now and I've played Ocarina of Time for almost a decade :(
I thought you could beat him and he said your prize is in the sky temple
when i was little, the rumour was that you could unlock new boots that made you go really fast, and you got them from a secret room in ganons tower
guess i was being lied too.
a kid told me that. he claimed that he did it, and once you beat him, he opens the door to the sky temple, where you unlock a secret co-op story.
Dark Link hahahahahaaha that's the stupidest lie I've ever heard
Dat man be trollin.
Since he is running around, in hyrule as a kid. What happens when you talk to him?
how so? watching the things happen from the worlds timeline/perspective a young link uses the shrine to warp to the future (first time you warp) and reappears again instantly (you after you challenged him and went back to time) and goes tot he bridge to wait. seven years later adult link appears at the shrine (you warping to the future for the first time), (does stuff), challenges the runner, heads to the shrine and disappears there.
Have you heard the owl say in most places time stops so wait on hyrule field with the bunny hood
would waiting for a week work on the 3ds?
it's in the coding,Your not supposed to beat him,Or your just...not able to in any way possible unless you Change his coding.
+Hiro senpai This. I don't extensively know much about OoT's coding but from what I've gathered, it would seem to me that when you touch the loading zone to the bridge of the Lost Woods, there is a trigger for the running man to appear no matter what your time is. Wasn't the Running Man supposed to be a future side-quest to do with the N64 DD or something? Hence why it wasn't released (ooT DD) it never made it out.
though it is debatable whether the adult link and child link are actually on a single, unbroken timeline.
I beat in once but in was in the first cartridge, golden one. Also I did manage to catch the Hylian Loach without the sinking lure.
I have a video up of losing to the running man at 0 seconds, but he still wins by a value that isn't a number.
theres a secret hole behind the tent!!!! play song of storms and it will appear there is a crack in the hole at the other side but idk if you can break it tell me if u can
If you asked him to race, then went back in time, who would ask him to race 7 years later if you're still waiting?
In the 3ds version i apparently lost by half a second.
Wow. Interesting. I always ears that you could beat him if you got a perfect score in the gerudo shooting game and you win the silver saddle and then you could win. But I could never get a perfect score
so how does he give his twin the message to come out of hiding and wait at the bridge for you? ;)
We have Word of God on this. The developers have said he cannot be beaten.
game designers made two running men, oldest and lamest trick in the book :P
If you wait for the running man to start running then follow him and make sure you're ahead of him, he's still waiting for you. Lol.
You just have to meet him at the kokiri bridge at exactly 1:00 min. It's pretty weird.
but what if you get there at 4:59? doesn't that mean he loses?
Anyone else thought that the video would end with the running man being beat?? :P
