For us Maranao, this is called pater. The way you cooked the rice, we call it "kiyoning".
Thank you for featuring a dish from Mindanao. Hope you can try more of our food like bakas (smoked fish), randang, pindiyalokan a manok, piyaparan a manok, badak, and our famous side and all-around dish- palapa. The pater will taste "more Maranao" if you use palapa. Love your videos, Chef RV! ❤

Hi Chef, I honestly believe that the pastil is really good just by looking at your eyes rolled with great gusto😁. I’m out of turmeric powder in my spice rack so I’ll use Saffron as substitute. High grade saffron has excellent color, taste and aroma - I learned that when I visited Dubai spice souk.
