I’ve have watched several vlog re the Llangollen and as far as I recall yours was the only one that mentioned the cost and time limit for mooring. That’s the excellent detail that you include thanks 🙏
thank you Andrew, for the beautiful filming and for sharing your adventures. We have great memories of the Llangollen Canal. Bryan & Donna, Quebec, Canada.
Beautiful photography of beautiful scenery. Thank you. Also thanks for taking my mind back - it must be around 55 years since I've heard anyone say, "Not rain, Welsh mountain mist"!!
Thank you Ruth - and I thought you were a mere slip of a lass! But actually, I think it was you who mentioned the mountain mist quote on one of my previous videos. Apologies for plagiarising you.
What a beautiful place and an entertaining vlog. Photography and narration was perfect to watch here in Raleigh NC on a rainy weekend. We watched it twice as not to miss anything. Thank you.
What a lovely place. You still have leaves on the trees. Ours are all bare now. It’s also amazingly warm here. We often get our first snow the first week of Oct. but not this year. Nicest, longest fall I can remember Here. May the wind now be at your back.
It is lovely. The video was shot about 3 weeks ago, but the leaves have only just started to turn in the last couple of days. Your summer must be very short and winter long.
Big Thank you for a lovely video loved it we love the Camel and Llangollen your video made it really lovely as we not been able to visit with the lock down well done
Hi Andrew beautifully filmed again. Its such a lovely spot. We went there last year on our trip. My Daughter took my on the Stream Train for my bday. Happy memories. Your lovely vlog brought back happy memories for us thanks. Those Barry said mooring is much cheaper that parking a car for a few hours lol. Thanks again. Hope you all keep safe.
The horse drawn boat from the Way is now at Tiverton Canal in Devon, sadly closed this year due to Covid, hoping to open again next year. Thank you for a beautiful cruise. Take care
Another smashing Vlog Andrew, this one was very serene and calming. Thanks for letting me ride along. By the way, if as you say you're a solo boater who was texting you with the all-clear.
Blimey..Great bit of photography 👍 and Blimey great bit of story telling and narration. Full point s for a top vlog that you wouldn’t want to miss ( especially on a dark night) 😀 Thanks Andrew .. always look forward to you videos... 👍 And you are correct Andrew “The world is just getting crazier “ 👀 And the UK doesn’t have a monopoly of things going crazy 😀.. it’s just as bad in the Land Down Under 🇦🇺
@@talesfromtheswansneck 3 C is pretty chilly for you folks this early in the winter. Our last of the year outdoor music session a week ago ended at just above 0 C when I got in the car to go home. I have lots of music to mix down.
Another first rate production Andrew, beautifully filmed and edited. I was at the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct just last week doing a bit of landscape photography (purely amateur status) and noticed the narrowboat named Woteva Next although Gdansk seemed to have moved on. As you say Llangollen is quite a busy place. I live in Denbighshire and consequently as of 6pm tonight back in lockdown which effectively means that I can't travel 2 miles over the border into Conwy or 6 miles the other way into Flintshire but I can drive 40 miles to Llangollen. Absolutely Crazy!! Oh well at least Llangollen should be a lot less busy, which is good news for me but absolutely awful for the tourist industry that the town implicitly relies on.
Hi Glyn, yeah that does seem a bit crazy, and I do appreciate that towns like Llangollen and Betws-y-Coed rely heavily on tourism. I'm thankful that on the canals I can by and large stay away from large groups of people.
Hi Andrew I notice that you have highlighted the Montgomery Canal on your map. We have not seen you cruise this. Have you done it on the sly? Beautiful vlog. The Llangollen is quite magical. Jeff
Well spotted Jeff. Actually I filmed down there when may son came to visit at the end of July, and I'm planning on showing the arms and branches whilst travelling back to the mainline. So, I suspect that The Monty will be up in a week or two.
Passed you as you were waiting at a bus stop by sun trevor! Did think on turning around to give you a lift, but no where to turn ! Lovely vid, and fab pronunciation ;). The logs are not ususlly an issue. Odd that. Out just in time ahead of local travel restrictions:(
Another enjoyable and well-put-together video! Thanks again for taking the time to share these for us. Have you considered a Patreon, in addition to the PayPal link, by chance?
Choices, choices. I don't fancy The Rochdale much but the others have all been in my mind especially the Chesterfield. However, I may end up going south and east - but plans change...
Hi Andrew Where are your text messages coming from, advising that the Narrows were clear of oncoming traffic? Have been enjoying your vlogs from this beautiful canal. Cheers from NZ.
Thanks Admiral, it's a glorious place. Even I don't know where next, it is in the hands of the gods, and the CRT. Winter stoppages could dictate my route. We'll see... You take care too.
From experience, you can't always assume that because a teenager is glued to their phone they are bored. For many its their default state. They may actually be quite enjoying it, but you simply can't tell from looking at them.
Fair point. But as someone who was a single parent, and a photographer who has studied body language I do think many of the teenagers I saw on boating holidays weren't exactly engaged by their time on the water. Of course that could be because their dad's were hogging the tiller...
Did you know teasels were used in the weaving industry...where we get the phrase teasing the wool....they were grown in fields and used on teasing frames...
I do vaguely remember reading that. Also the water that collects in the leaf 'cups' can be used to get rid of wrinkles and bags under the eyes - allegedly.
Great video. I have done this canal about 8 years ago and it still looks the same. Do you have a particular app that you mentioned in the video sending you a message that it is clear to pass? I surely did not have that 8 years ago and that would be very helpful.
@@talesfromtheswansneck Oh, I see. The canal authorities could introduce such an app or some sort of 'traffic' lights (like in French canals). That would be very helpful. Thanks.
@@eaglet2000 yes traffic lights would be good. There are traffic lights on some river locks, there are traffic lights at the oneway system on the K&A in Reading, it would be useful there too.
I notice most if not boaters seem to be using manila / natural fibre lines. Is there any specific reason why nylon/poly or braided lines are not being used? Cheers.
Hi Claude, I can't speak for others but of course nylon/ poly ropes contain plastic and I suppose more ecologically minded boaters prefer not to pollute the waterways with plastic.
@@talesfromtheswansneck Okay thanks. I boat in salt water, where manila has a very short life as mooring lines. Double braided lines are the standard for a host of reasons. 'Traditional' boats I suspect would not dare have synthetic lines on board! Stay safe.
