Bro I just got a 1975 Suzuki ts400 Apache fuck yes!!!
@@benwilsons2173 Now that's a fun bike wish I still had mine, broke the foot pegs off both sides twice lol.
NEXT TIME U GET A BIKE WITH THE MOTOR LIKE THAT BROTHER THE BEST WAY TO UNLOCK A MOTOR LIKE THIS GET ONE OF U ATV AND RUN IT AND LET THAT OIL GET HOT AND TAKE THE OIL OUT THE BIKE THAT BEEN RUNNING AND PUT THE HOT OIL IN A LOCK MOTOR
Hell yeah Glenn mine is in pretty bad shape I just got it running but I need to get a few things before my first ride I wish it was the tm400
Do you sell bikes too or are you a collector.
My dad was born in 64 he grew up riding vintage bikes like these i was born in 94 and grew up learning to ride on these bikes. My heart beats for vintage bikes please don’t let her die bring her back
When your dad was riding them back in the day, they were state of the art!!!
@@mcbridecreek yes. I prefer the vintage bikes over the new ones. The new bike are just ugly to me
@@brianbaird3 yes it is cool to see Joe breath life in these great old 2 strokes!
Don't worry be happy 😘
@@brianbaird3 I like both old dirt bikes and newer ones but you damn right older stuff was made better the new stuff the price is crazy and they ain't even made good older Hondas will always be better
When you get that one running it will surprise you how quick it is. Those were the privateer bike to have in 76-77. The 370 especially.
The 76 Rm 370 is my absolute favorite bike ever
@@TopRevs you ever ride one of those animals? Man we thought they were pretty trick back in the day, felt sketchy as F last time around lol. Highly collectible Suzuki to be sure
@@deborahchesser7375 oh yeah they are something else man.. I love it
I had a rat 77 125, it was fast!
Hallelujah! he cleaned it before opening everything up and dropping all the crap inside 😂😂🤦♂️
So very true , glad that he finally did it, I'm a big fan of his but wish he'd wash every bike before teardown
Dump and fill that crank area with diesel or marvel mystery oil.
if you mix ATF and acetone at a 50:50 mixture it makes the best penetrating oil. 10X better than WD40
The patience people have the time and will to rebuild old school MX bikes, my hat is off to you😊😊😊😊
If you warm up the engine with a heat source of some sort, i.e. Heat gun, salamander heater. It will aid tremendously in penetration of the fluids you poured down the cylinder, thus making the unseizing process faster
That bike would be a sweet restoration project
i LOVE watching videos like this.. where people like youall take old stuff and fix em up and run em.. giving them a second chance if you will.. keep up the good work and ill keep watching :)
I saved an engine like this once. Had to split the cases and really work on it to get it freed up and cleaned up properly. New bearings and seals, balance crank, new piston, bored the cylinder and it's still running today.
This one needs the cases split and rebuilt
That rod bearing and crank bearings won’t last to long at all the proper way is to split the case and new bearings and seals but if you just want to do it cheap and easy just to rip it a few times proceed but imo she has good bones and would be awesome restored nice find on both the zukes.
right on
In 93 I got a 76 rm250, i very strong bike. That bike had a 80s cr250 carb and a screen in a sock for an air box. Lot of hours on my 76
Nothing better than resurrecting these machines. They are easy to work on meaning you can actually work on it compared to the current bikes.
I rebuilt my 79’ RM250N between 05-06’ when NOS parts were rather plentiful and not too expensive.
Got her back to show room condition and she rips.
I definitely like seeing an old RM brought back to life. Used to have 1977 RM 125, and it did everything great. Was reliable, cheap to maintain, and started with ease.
I had a 1977 RM100. The RMs ruled that era. The YZ was good too.
I had a 1982 Suzuki RM465Z from 1982 to 1990, and it was the best bike I ever had. Never broke down one time, ran like a top, had awesome power that would pull the front wheel in every gear, started 2nd kick when cold, 1st kick when warm, and I got parts cheap from a Suzuki parts warehouse near Chicago Illinois.
On most dirt bikes that don't have a dip stick you check the transmission oil by unscrewing a screw from the clutch side housing. It should barely run out when the engine is level. Usually the capacity is about 28 ounces.
Not on 2 strokes that old, I had a 1976 Suzuki RM100 and it did not have a screw to check the oil on the clutch side. I would just stick a zip tie in there to check the oil. I also had a 1980 Suzuki PE250, and it did not have that screw either.
Joe it’s probably cause the bottom is filled with water put pressure on the crank stops it from spinning empty it out completely keep flushing it with oil it looks reasonably saveable
It was the laugh for me😆 23:47
Yes it was truly diabolical! 🤣
It’s funny that you love the old aluminum tank! I had a 77 RM 125, back in 1980. I couldn’t wait to replace the stock tank with a plastic desert tank!
This is the only channel where I actually learn something. Thanks for the videos. Can’t stop watching.
Great videos. Awesome in depth problem investigation. Really like how you leave the little mistakes you do and say in the video. Was cracking up when you filled the 2stroke crankcase with all that oil then drained the gearbox. Classic 👍
That needs to be split and cleaned. If doesn't work out for you I'd be interested in the crank but would need to see pic of primary gear side of it
i agree should split and clean and not take short cuts too much crud will kill her
@@victornichol1565 ya it won't run long like that
the elephant in the room is the welded kickstarter and the rusted up clutch plates. good luck though miracles do happen. thats a wiseco piston so its been rebuilt might have even been re sleeved
That thing is a beast! I can promise you that! Please keep that beauty and restore it❤❤👍
i had a 77 250 b in 77 grew up riding with mark barnett so i had to have one, great bike for the year strong motor cornered great definitely made me a better rider coming off my bultaco 250 in 76, suzuki continued improving the 250 in 77 with a,b, and c model later in production
It needs a new crank. Running it with that crank will cause more damage in the long run. The bigend bearings wont last long and once they go the piston will start slapping against the head. Rings are all rusted as well so that will damage the bore. A new crank. Set of bearing and rings is all it needs.
Yeah that thing sat outside for awhile, that wasn't carbon he was scraping off the crank it is rust, unless this bike had a family history it would cost to much to repair, part it out so somebody else can get a better bike going again. That rod bearing is done, you may get the engine started but without a good rebuild it won't last a wk, trust me. I have rebuilt and sold over 300 bikes most Vintage.
@@glenncrockett4451 yeah i agree i do the same bulid old bikes. But here in the uk there is not many barn finds left. Infact most of the stuff gets imported from the usa. So i would personally sort that bike our cause they are going for good money.
Bro just split cases, replace crank bearings and have crank rebuilt. Restore her and they will come...
Brings back memories as I had a 76 250 rm loved that bike the smell of bel ray mc1 was awesome the bark of the engine and the power oh I loved it
Live those old antique dinosaurs!!! Fun to play with and work on.good times, great vid!
great man! I can't believe you took that gem for 200$...here in Portugal, ask for it, at least 600€ not running. just because it's vintage.
I also bought a similar bike for $200. Mine was running when I got it but had a leak near the carb. The front shocks were leaking oil tho but they weren’t blown, and the clutch was suuuuper stretched. Mine was a Suzuki Ts185, in a royal blue colour. PRETTY SIC
Why do you continue to check transmission oil on these old 2 strokes through the fill plug? You do realize there is a bolt you take out to check the transmission level
Man seeing you free up that old engine was nirvana!! ❤️
Dang, that bike is beyond clapped-out! Hope it has some usable parts for your bike fleet.
200 bucks for that? Man I would buy them all day long at that price! That thing looks like a blast👍
He must be like my brother, I can search high and low for something, he walks out and it lands on him. But yeh, I’d like to find a few, I do all the work on his bikes anyway when I can get him motivated. ✌️🇺🇸
Love these old bikes. So much easier to work on lol.
Love the content, can’t wait to see the update on the garage!
I had one in 1982! Right before they started with water cooled head's! Broke my back on it! I also had a PE 175 their version of an enduro back then!
great video. i have a 1954 Twingle Allstate 175 with same locked up piston and crank I think. I like the rubbermallet tapping. Going to try that til pistons break free. then same with crank if thats locked up. thanks for the great show and tell video on small vintage bikes.
Nice worked on one once with a friend wasn't a 250 but a 200 Suzuki pretty much the same lots of fun times in the pit with that old thing we added a pflow for the gas line everything else was fine ran great
You should try putting oil in the motor, to get oil on those bearings to see if it will free
This bike is a classic for a restore. And he is talking about the grips being bad.
You got your hands full with this one Joe. Good luck!!
Nice find. Looks like a 76/77 RM250.
I just picked up a litle nasty old rm60.. lol the blue grips are melted just the same. Kicks thru tho. All wiring is cut.. great content man, keep it coming 👌
piston looks just fine little polish and its good.
I really like these types of videos. Good job joe.
Waiting for part 2 can't wait 🙂
I would be careful too. Looks like it’s been resleeved. That’s all brand new. But I know for my bike u can buy a 300 kit for it. So make sure u measure the piston
Case reed induction and the remotes puts it at a late 70’s Rm250, I’d say probably a 77 or 78, so a B or a C. If you get it running and it’s setup well the power delivery when the reeds open will really makes it pull really well.
He won't get anywhere near it running right 😏
Now that's more like the ones that I bring home. Good Luck!
Nice! Definitely looking forward to seeing how much crud is inside the bottom end
I can only imagine what you could get if you part out the engine and transmission. Definitely worth it id say.
Gotta get this thing going ASAP man would love to see how it holds up wish I could get a find like that
Block of wood ontop of the piston and a sledge hammer usually does it for me 😂😂
Great video bro. U keep me hanging onto the next episode.
Great video to watch! brings tons of memories!
YOU DIFFERENT BRO! I LOVE IT! LOOKS BAD ASS!
Piston doesn't even look like it's been run, not very many scratches on it other than the rust. Seems like it was rebuilt and parked for some reason. I would pull the motor, flip it over and drench that crank chamber in fluid to flush it out, reinstall everything and see if she runs! I had a 74 TS250, the enduro version of this brand and vintage. My first official dirtbike at age 17 back in 99' ish.
Check the clutch/gearbox
I actually have a main bearing set too for that bike, you can get seal and gasket kits for it
Love the sound of those old 2 strokes.
That bike is really fast 💨. Seen plenty of videos
Great job on getting that one unlocked!!
Can't wait to see this thing running.
Reuse top end looks doable. Not destroyed at all right on.
This dude is literally the cliff hanger king omg
Nice one joe this will be interesting to see how it turns out 👍👌🔧🔧🔧
you should restore some of these bikes. that must be worth thousands fresh.
I have a Honda XL185s, bought it locked up. legit took the cover off to the fly wheel and turned it a couple times. And freed up. Took about 20 kicks and she runs perfect now. Haven't took the top of. But planning on a rebuild soon in the future. Awesome Vid!
Those fairly lower power Honda 4-stroke engines have a very long lifespan, especially if taken care of well, (oil changes and such). Mr Honda, (dead now), loved to get into all kinds of racing, I (and they won at them all), and as a manufacturing guy myself, (experience and education), Honda was then, and probably still is now, the best manufactures in the world with engineering and quality control. The result is,---your engine started and runs good. :)
@@EarthSurferUSA I agree, loving Honda. Finding there were built to last. Thanks for the info
Cool old bike. That’s not mold, it’s patina!
I think that bike would be fun those old ones rip to bad she was forgotten till now
nice find man! thats a 2 stroke rocket ship! well back in the day it was
Nice old vintage RM! Some of the stickers are goofy though. The "Briggs & Stratton" (bike isn't a lawn mower lol) and "Full Floater" (bike predates the single rear shock RMs) are amusing :-)
The funniest sticker is the boyesen Reed's cause it has none
@@myguitaryourface5160 Sorry but the 250 has a reed valve assembly.
@@Deucealive75 lmao I didn't watch it all
I am sure you know what your doing. I made a puller for getting stuck cylinders off. Piece of bar stock with slots and center bolt. Bar stock anchors to the head studs or bolts and center bolt pushes on the piston. Might save you a connecting rod or bearing some day
I have two stroke outboards and find that automatic transmssion fluid is the best releasing agent.
I picked a 78 250 PE up for $50 she is still going strong 💪.
Nice, I have a 1977 rm250 in the garage 😀
Your mechanical skills are next level. Love watching you work and breath life back into old bikes. Thanks for posting! 💪
try a 1x1 piece of wood and gently tap the top of the piston while pulling up on the cylinder it works be gentile
When you let that oil sit for a while in the plug hole get it into a high gear and rock the bike back and forth and you can free the top end up in most cases
i love unstuck videos of crank and piston freeing up.
Claw hammer mechanic...wow
A guy where I worked had one. We used to bust his balls saying "What are you going to do build a house with that thing?" lol.
Pistons are aluminum they do not rust, I think you will laugh at yourself when you go back and hear what you said lol.It will clean right off with some PB blaster and a shop towel
You're correct, should have said rust was on it.
Rings are steel tho...
This Bike is hard core, build it right from bottom up and you get big money for it
Amazing recovery! I thought it was toast....
God I always stayed away from RMs back in the day the 250s and 125 always blew up. Every buddy I knew had one blew his up.
Can't wait!
Those big back tires were handy.
It’s always a good feeling when you get a machine that’s been in the depths of shit and bring it back with minimal parts
I would love find one of those rm 125’s ( one of my 1st motocrossers).
The cylinder looks like it's had a new liner, the piston also looks new. Next time if you think water has got in drain the sump first, it's no good chucking oil or WD40 in there as it will float on the top of the water and do nothing. A good soak of diesel, clean the piston and a hone on the barrel, she'll run again.
No diesel on the seals, it will eat them
@@listenupfools731 You're wrong when it comes to crank seals, they withstand oil and petrol mix which is more damaging to certain rubbers than diesel. Crank seals are made with rubber that will not degrade, this is why I said to use it.
hello, in the past mechanics used diesel fuel to loosen/clean things. works wonders. regards
I love this exact bike I have one when I was a kid
Yes bro another video
A ling time ago , at place that no longer exists .... I started racing on a 1977 RM125B
you don't need to always hone the cylinder walls just wash it and clean reeds, and put new screws on that, also check the ring cap, and after doing that you will know do you need get new rings, and sometimes just a little polish do wonders to cylinder walls,i have roll old t-shirt to the stick and put it in the drill and let it spin, but I've seen peoples use bottle wash brush also to clean cylinder walls, there is so many ways to clean but just clean and look cap and feel the walls and chek how to piston moves then you know what to do.
I know you can bring this one back from the dead good luck! Also any news on the Quadzilla?
lol just letting the rod pound the case with the kick starter
I had 1976 rm 250 it was a beast
