Im from Michigan [far north for those of you who may have forgotton where it is] They never made Gumbo there. If anything it was a beef stew. Now I have to live in Kentucky & no Gumbo its Dumplins. Ive never eaten Okra. My Mother hated it as a kid so she said she never served it to me. I didnt even know the word till I found some fried at a buffet. I was like "Mom what IS THIS?" She told me at her orphanage they served it as a side dish boiled and twas slimy. I subbed, your alot of fun! & YUM

I am from Louisiana and live in Nawlins and I think ur so cute lol my mom n grandma cook the seafood in the pot with the gumbo cuz it gets done so quick but come on down to Louisiana and I will serve you and ur family some gumbo lol

But during the year when I don't want to do a lot I make the red gumbo but I call it chicken gumbo because of the okra and chicken. And girl I use a rice cooker for my rice or the rice in the bag too lol. But for large portions I use the rice cooker. Mmmm I will have to cook me some real soon :o) When you have time make us some more videos!

Honey, if you want TRUE New Orleans Gumbo, then your seafood Needs to be FRESH, not frozen! You need a Roux, NOT tomatos to thicken, thats nasty, who ever heard of tomatos in Louisiana Gumbo, i mean REALLY!!!..... and oh, NO File, not for a Seafood Gumbo, thats for a Chicken and Sausage Gumbo! I live in the DEEP South of Louisiana in a city called New Iberia, we damn near invinted Gumbo, and we're approx. 2 1/2hrs from New Orleans!!!

Renee Wright How do y'all make it Cali? Down here in the Lou it's usually cooking oil and flour (as the thickening agent). Some may use butter in the place of cooking oil, but it's essentially some sort of fat cooked w/ flour. You can also buy roux at the grocery store :D
Um that's not enuff water for all that rice LOL... And that's not really how we make seafood gumbo here n new Orleans we don't use tomatoe stew we make out root from scratch with flower... But to each's own loved the singing part :)

Actually some people do use tomatoes (drained) in seafood gumbo
I've seen people use tomatoes in okra gumbo.
No tomatoes in seafood gumbo. You can add a small amounts in okra gumbo because the acid in the tomatoes cut the slime in the okra.

@the1lique my grandma used to clean her rice in cold water before she cooked it and i never knew why,... but now i do! lol. but its very true!
