I think it’s because this movie strikes the exact balance between generic animated movie and a movie with a meaningful message that makes it seem both interesting and familiar
They worked extremely hard. Above and beyond on this movie. The amount of research and thought that went into the character designs was amazing and it didn’t get the recognition it deserved at all
It was SO juvenile though. That’s the fundamental issue that caused it to be forgotten. The art, and the designs, and all the fresh and unique ideas presented in the films world were essentially held together by poop jokes and innuendos. Really disappointing.

I liked that at 0:29, the only board member that attempts to stand up to ratchet (and is promptly ejected from the meeting) is growing increasingly angry with his corruption of Bigweld's vision.
This movie is great. And it talks about how a company can have the best of intentions and make a great profit, it loses itself when the one on top changes or someone new comes in who hasn’t been with the common man and doesn’t understand what people want

I mean they are literally abducting old, rusty robot to kill them and smelt them into upgrades to sell to the rich robots. Thats the equivalent of exploiting people to death (or straight up killing minorities) to produce expensive products for the wealthy elite. They managed to put a lot of criticism of capitalist exploitation and consumerist culture into this movie. I like how these movies that many people see as "for kids" often have societal or political messages in them.

robots is just one of those movies, one of those really good ideas that was kicking around some guy's head all day until they finally gave him the resources to make it and he's just like "oh fucking finally" and doesn't even care that his political messages are being reigned in a little for the PG rating.

This film is like a fine wine 🍷. I remember when it came out, It kept a special spot in my heart. Ice Age was cool, but this was Blue Sky Studios "Shrek" if you think about it. You really have to be a teenager/adult to fully enjoy the film.
