    I admired the Queen mum and her husband King George because they remained in London during the 2nd World War to be with the people of England.

      Interesting...do you think Edward8 should've been executed like normal sorts for his treason rather than being sent to "work" in the Bahamas?

    I'm American, and I will always remember my mother, who is nearly 89 now, speaking about the courage of King George and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, as they lead their country through the bombings and destruction of WW2. It was suggested that the Royal Family leave during the bombings and take refuge overseas, but they adamantly refused and for this, they ARE Great Britain and they have my American family's deepest respect. G-d bless them.

    She was a great Lady

    Good for Princess Anne and her request to participate as she did.This comes from deep respect & love.I understand her wish-I helped carry my Mother's casket-I am her daughter.Regardless of one's politics or country, the Queen Mother was recognised as courageous in deeds,sweet in demeanor-These qualities are admired by all.

    It made me cry then and it makes me cry now. Although I never met her, she had been there all my life. Say what you like about monarchy, they're something constant in an ever-changing world and ours are one of the best - though what we will have when the present Queen dies I shudder to think!

    FYI....All the Royal Scott and Irish Guard.....those who play the pipe and drum...They are all service men and women. They are *ACTIVE* service men and women. The Royal Scott Guard in particular has served active duty in Afghanistan and Iraq and lost comrades, friends. They are warriors who believe in the freedom's their country provides, and are willing to serve, sacrifice and give of their myriad and God given gifts....warriors and poets, fighters and musicians.....Its nothing new and we damn well better respect it to know that our freedoms rest on their shoulders.

    I've always had the utmost respect for her and King George VI for the way they led thier subjects during the war. They could have left for Canada or the West Indies but they decided to stick it out in England when the bombs were falling.

      @michaelb9529 3 года назад

      Queen Mother when asked during WW2 if they were going to come to Canada answered. "The children shall not leave without me. I shall not leave without the King, and the King shall never leave." They also carried side arms in case they had to fight it out to the end.

    What a life! Even as a child she was gorgeous and glowed from within. Her life was distinguished by her rising to every occasion. She repeatedly faced awesome challenges and took them on willingly and wisely and stylishly. She knew everyone! She loved travel, gardens, horses and corgis. A historically admirable wife and Queen, a wonderful mother who gave her children a warm family childhood against great odds. God bless her forever.

    @DecmanReturns Likewise the people that complain about having to pay to keep the Royal family do not know how little it actually is. It would be a grand shame to lose all this.

  • @Mirrigold
    @Mirrigold 14 лет назад

    @amanc09uk no hers was a Royal Ceremonial Funeral, as has been said, the last State Funeral in the UK was that for Winston Churchill. If this had been a State Funeral, the coffin's gun carriage would have been pulled by sailors from the Royal Navy, the oldest branch of the Armed Forces in the UK. A State Funeral in the UK has to be motioned or voted on in Parliament.
    The last Royal State Funeral was for the Queen Mother's husband and the current Queen's father, King George VI in 1952.

    @DecmanReturns actually the royal family gives the county all the revenue from the lands which comes out to be about 200 million pounds and they get back only 40 million for the civil list which doesn't include the taxes that the royal family pays. Also all money tourists spend to see working castles and other things royal.

    The Queen Mother was a remarkable lady, bred to tradition and honor, but not too good to quaff a pint like the blokes down at the pub -- it is rumored that she sometimes took a pint WITH the blokes down at the pub. Wife of a king, mother to a queen, and grandmother to a country. Rest in peace, mum.

    Its is part of your culture, heritage and very fabric. All things forgiven and memories remain. Take all that is good and improve the bad. I can tell you that most American's secretly yearn for a monarch. The funny thing is if you had only given us representation, we would probably be part of the Commonwealth today.

    @Tobytrim, you don't know what you are talking about. They earn their money ten times over. They all work so hard, that it would be impossible to pay them. That old man of 87 has 15 official functions scheduled for April. The Princes Royal has 37 official duties, including chairing the Olympic Games meetings. What do you think that's worth, in money? When she takes an overseas trip, it is nearly always to Bangladesh or Nigeria, as executive ot the SAve the Children Fund. What's that worth?.

    47cybele59 - I don't think you quite understand. It has nothing to do with protocol - they haven't been ordered not to cry. It's a combination of emotions. Some situations are beyond crying (it took a Celt to voice that). Some times people might start crying uncontrollably ..... personally, I could think of nothing worse. Screaming, ranting all that public show. I'd almost feel ashamed. You may disapprove of self-control but retaining dignity during that dreadful deep sadness means you hold it together until you get home to share with those who really know.

    The country's in a state because the government has lost the trust of the people. They tax everything then spend the money on road signs that don't help the motorist but confuse them.I respect the passing away of a person but all this pomp and stuff is just unnecessary.
