At least when that switch happened, people were warned months (if not years) in advance and were given ways to convert their TVs into recieving digital signals via constant advertising of converter boxes and weekly tests to see if the TV is "DTV-ready". These Disney shutdowns happened without any prior announcements that the channels will cease broadcasting.
@@eclipsethefox4397 Exactly. Fitting I suppose since Disney Channel/Playhouse Disney (Disney Jr.)/Toon Disney (Disney XD) were all started in the U.S. that they all end with the U.S./Canada/Mexico region
Everyone here is lamenting the existence of these channels, I'm honestly just fascinated by how different countries execute their shutdowns and such. I can't figure out why, but it's all so fascinating to me!
This is what the advisory said. (comment was deleted) . . The Walt Disney company has decided to cease airing of Disney Junior (Ch. 70) across all Pay TV operators in the Philippines and in the Southeast Asian region effective October 1, 2021 . Thus, Disney Junior will be removed from the channel line-up of Cignal. . @@axelpatrickb.pingol3228 I wasn't aware that Disney XD (Disney Channel & Disney Junior still exists, I'm from India btw) was taken off air since I didn't watch it that often, after finding the 1st part of this video, I now knew why channel numbers changed in my cable TV. I was a bit surprised that Nat Geo People wasn't there even though I didn't watch it that often as well. Getting back into the topic, I'm sorry. I now kinda hate Disney.
I haven't finished watching the entire video yet, but Disney Channel and Disney Junior shut down at the end of September in South Korea (we didn't have Disney XD) and also pulled all their movies from other VOD services that were domestically available and which came automatically with subscription to a telecoms network. Not only that, the official Korean Disney Channel youtube seems to have deleted all of its videos as well, with a banner now reading "Due to official company policy, the Disney Channel RUclips channel will cease all services from September 30, 2021. Thank you for all your love and support over the years."
I mean at least FX ended with a overview of everything from the channels history, most other closures didn’t have it although it’s possible that was being made for when the channels anniversary came up as a bumper but they got he shut down notice and decided to release it then but it’s nice there was a kind of closure.
in Brazil (and prolly other LATAM countries) all the Disney channels are still running, however all the shows broadcasted are all on full repeat, there’s no new episodes, but I guess it’s better than having no channel at all
I hope those channles stay a little longer in LATAM. No one can afford a subscription for Disney+ while they have a basic cable TV or free-to-air channels.
Speaking about the Asian channels closure, it's also sad that Disney also discontinuing the legacy of Hong Kong-based STAR TV, where FOX Asia channels come from (FOX Life, FOX Movies, and FOX Sports are used to be STAR World, STAR Movies, and STAR Sports [which, ironically, partnered with Disney/Hearst-owned ESPN under JV, ESPN STAR Sports until 2012/13]). After FOX Movies ceased its broadcast, the only way to watch Hollywood movies on TV through WarnerMedia's pan-regional HBO Asia (and its sister channels, including male-oriented Cinemax) or movies that aired on other over-the-air or cable/satellite channels plus streaming services. Also, with FOX Sports being ceased, rights of F1 and UFC are being individually held by pay-TV network from one country (e.g., Astro in Malaysia, TAP DMV in Philippines, TrueVisions in Thailand, etc.) while MotoGP and Wimbledon are held by South Korea-based SPOTV (which expanded and launched in Southeast Asia around the same day FOX Sports closed).

It’s probably the best way to close a channel, a fair well lullaby as a kind of join us as we sing you off to your final rest is how you end a channel unless you go the route of Japan where they give a look back ending where the staff of the channel look back at everything from the channels history those are the best ways to go out, the lullaby sets the mood while the look back honors the history of the channel, the random cut to offline screens from some countries just doesn’t do it justice.

I saw the news about FOX Sports closed, but unfortunately found no footage yet. From what I heard, Hong Kong's provider NOW Sports picked up the Cantonese commentary for the remaining F1 and MotoGP races. Hope the rest of Asia be blessed with similar treatment. Should I said something about I may have foresaw what's about to be, back when Asia still had the combination ESPN + Star Sports? The SportsCenter did regional stuffs until around 2011-12 season as recall-in Hong Kong, they had their own presenters and domestic sports news, but then presenters were voiceover only and Hong Kong shares the same domestic parts with Taiwan. Perhaps just me...
In Latin America they changed fox to Star and all the premium package called Fox Premium to Star Premium, They have left Disney channel and Disney XD alone for the moment, just recently they released a new streaming service called Star+ with ESPN and most of the content fox had, but is a mess honestly, mostly on how the F1 is now, Fox Sports and ESPN have existed in Latin America for a while so the F1 was on Fox Action (now Star Action) and replays on Fox Sports 3, now they played some on ESPN and on Star Action, after getting Star+ released they basically stopped with f1 on ESPN, so wtf Disney?
They'll do the same with other sports like football or mma. In fact, you already need star+ to see ufc numbered events, and the next season the full f1 season probably will be there. I miss the times when streaming didn't exist and I just had to turn on the tv to see what I wanted

This whole situation is really similar about what happened with 3D and 2D Games in the 90's. When 3D Games started to getting made, everyone thought that 3D was the way of the future and 2D was old news. However, everyone quickly got bored of mediocre 3D games that were coming out while 2D quality games failed. But afterwards, 2D entered a renaissance and now both 2D and 3D games co-exist. (Sorry if i wrote something wrong, i don't speak english)
Television isn’t going to die off completely but the golden era isn’t going to come back, it’s likely going to be similar to radio where it’s something supplemental to the other media like everyone said radio would die when television came out but it’s still active to this day but not the same, the situation is likely going to flip (which we’re starting to see now) that shows will go to streaming first and then to tv later and networks are going to be cutting more costs so they might do stuff like license shows from unconventional sources such as RUclipsrs, we’ve started to see this as well as Scott the woz announced their RUclips show will have episodes air on a television network(to be announced at a later date). I think once the hype around streaming dies down I don’t think most Disney channels will come back, maybe the regular Disney channel but none of the others, rather I think the Disney shows will be licensed to other networks like family guy returning to adult swim with it just being old episodes and new ones are on Disney+ first.
Nah man. It's more like VHS to DVD to flash drives to cloud storage. The mainstream public never looks back. There are still enthusiasts but they're few and far between. This comparison of 3d and 2d games doesn't make sense. A better comparison would be cartridges like the old consoles used, then DVD, then blu ray and now consoles are using internal storage for games. I know the switch still uses cartridges but it's a different case altogether.
F'ing hell this is depressing (and yes coming from the Philippines where a butt-ton of channels got shut down in one day). We're too damn broke to just subscribe to a streaming service and so TV is really the way to go for us without going too deep in our pockets. Can't imagine if Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Boomerang, and others would shut down on us as well (At least y'alls didn't shut down NatGeo and NatGeo Wild yet)
I don't think WarnerMedia or ViacomCBS do that (although ViacomCBS recently had cost-cutting resulting the channels being merged or replacedif not being closed), their channels and their shows are also popular, I've remember that on one article (I've forget the article from), a WarnerMedia exec that they didn't headed to "Disney way" (where your Disney channels getting closed in favour of Disney+), which means that Cartoon Network (and its sister channels) will safe from now. Same goes to Nickelodeon, which also being safe from now, although the effect are goes to ViacomCBS sister channels, particularly MTV or other brands).
I am so sorry. I understand what you're going through. With the pandemic going on, lots of people lose their jobs and a streaming service subscription is the last thing they would pay their remaining savings for.

I'm actually emotional. If this were 6-8 years ago and I expected to watch Phineas and Ferb or Gravity Falls. I would've been really sad for all my friends who didn't understand how to pirate movies
Something that got me is that Disney channel doesn’t just have Disney content but they also license the content of other companies like Disney channel has the Pokémon television license but Netflix has the streaming license and miraculous ladybug Disney channel has the television license but Netflix has the streaming license for seasons 1-3 but Disney has the streaming license for season 4 so people just getting Disney+ in these regions don’t get all the content that was on Disney channel and Disney XD (I think Disney junior is all Disney content)
Imagine saying "we'll be back at 6 AM" and then plugging out the signal permanently. This is a more peaceful way to end transmission than during the show, though. Note that the episode of Bluey ends with a falling asleep scene and then lullaby kicks in. Anyway, it's pretty odd to close DJ in a country that still has Disney Channel. Pretty much like Turkey, which had DC closed along with DXD while DJ was kept intact. Reminds me of that case of Jetix and Jetix Play. The latter ceased airing later.
At least that's better than how Disney Junior UK closed, since right after the morning song, it was cut to a test card that stayed there until the channel providers removed it...
Haven’t watched the whole video yet but Disney Junior Germany knows how to send off a childrens channel right. It’s nothing out of the ordinary but knowing the channel is closing possibly AT sign off time making it the final sign off is clever/convinient from them and gives the lullaby more meaning. It’s sad to see but at least Germany Junior knew what they were doing. Kids I feel would be too young to understand the “final rest” where the channel just “doesn’t wake up” at 6 like usual, and they shouldn’t need to I feel. They’d at least see or hear the channel happily for the last time, then, as kids do, find the next Disney Junior replacement not realizing what happened nor caring, while we look at it fondly as it reminds us of all the great shows it had and all the memories it gave us with our children or even ourselves with our parents. Or it could’ve just been convinient with their actual sign off time ending it peacefully the way it started. Felt like 12:10 was unnecessary and it could’ve just cut straight to the channel ending screen but maybe they do that with every channel so its no big deal. 12:02 bro those twinkles at the end.. it hurts.

That means any linear channels in Asia operated by Disney will be completely defunct by October 1st, 2023 (the same day as Disney close its 18 channels back in 2021) in Southeast, Hong Kong, and Korea and December 31st, 2023 in Taiwan. Hope you to make a part 5 of this video (unless there is an already video available on that date) and oh, you should add two other Disney-owned channels Star Chinese Movies Legend and Channel [V] that was also closed in 2021, also as a part of Disney closing its 18 channels back in 2021 or any Disney channels that already closed such as in Italy (Fox, Nat Geo channels, Baby TV) or Russia. "Disney Making Asians Sad and Mad"? Huh? Edit: At least the title changed. Anyway, why most of these shutdown channels have "This channel is no longer available. Thank you for watching." thing? 🤦♂️
I don't know why they decided to change the name of Fox to Star here in Latin America, it makes no sense and lacks the brand recognition of Fox, so when you tell people about the Star channel they think it's just another random channel.
That brand originated from Asia, which is Hong Kong-based STAR TV, acquired by News Corporation in 1993 and split into three in 2009 (FOX Asia, STAR China Media, and STAR India). While STAR China Media was fully sold to China Media Capital in 2014, FOX Asia and STAR India continued to be owned by News Corp/21st Century FOX until it was acquired by Disney in 2019. Sadly, both FOX Asia and Disney Channel Asia are ceased its transmission a week before (October 1, 2021), resulting disappearing from its eternal home in Hong Kong (headquarters of STAR TV) and rest of Southeast Asia.
Although Disney bought most of 21st Fox's entire bulk library, one part of the deal was that Fox Corp gets to retain the "Fox" name, trademark, and copyright name. This is basically the reason why 20th Century and Searchlight were given a name/brand makeover following this suit. Plus if say, they bought the entirety of Fox, Disney would've been in more hot water in terms of breaking antitrust laws and others too far beyond control. Additionally the FCC/US Treasury would investigate on that matter.
America will probably have it until 2023. Bye nostalgia after that . In the US standard plan for Disney+ is 7.99 & annual is 19.99. Disney won’t cancel fox here in the states because of sports agreements.
Not just the sports agreement things, but also because Disney doesn’t actually *own* FOX TV in the United States. The sale of 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios) included the international channels, but the US Channels (FOX, FS1, FOX News, etc.) are still owned by Rupert Murdoch, who runs it as FOX Corporation. (This excludes the regional sports networks, which are now owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group… for now)

About the Disney Channel in Taiwan, from what I heard it will be closed on 2022/1/1 UTC+8 instead, just a note about it--and unfortunately I cannot provide the link to the article talking about it since it will be removed instead.
Not weird at all, the US does things differently than any other country, and this is where FOX, Disney, etc was born. If the channels shut down here too, we would be the last place where it shuts down.
The FOX branded channels in the US won't go anywhere as they're not owned by the House of Mouse but rather by the Murdochs via the FOX Corporation, the same happening to all his belongings in his home country of Australia.
Asia is probably the most COVID-affected continent, and Disney is like "Fûck it, let's make them pay for our streaming service lol!".

It's almost the same as the entire world switching from analog to digital television; we still loved the crappy way of doing things.
I swear in 2050 disney+ is shutting down in favor of holographic streaming
Just putting this out there: It's only a matter of time before the North American region and the rest of the areas lose these channels.

Just came across these videos. Thank you for the nostalgia.
It’s just a matter of time until they also remove the channels on LATAM :(

Oh just you wait until January 31st of 2022, because they plan to shut those channels down by then
They'll do the same with other sports like football or mma. In fact, you already need star+ to see ufc numbered events, and the next season the full f1 season probably will be there. I miss the times when streaming didn't exist and I just had to turn on the tv to see what I wanted

Nice work comrade! (July 1, 2024)
Tbh i was crying after this(yeah I'm from SEA) it's so depressing, i can remember watching at 11pm, a part from my childhood
Scott the Woz watcher? hehe

The good ending

Imagine if Fox merged with Viacom and Turner instead of Disney

Soon... The US version of these channels will shut down, and we'll be needing Disney+...
Possibly in the distant future of 2099
That would be the end of the world, but I don't care
*I* have Disney +
Which is exactly why I got Disney+ when it was first announced.
If you check Disney Channel Spain's data, its not going the best either, with four historical low viewer average on this year. Its sad to see disney do this for more money, and because of the streaming services killing tv... soon we wont even have TV channels, it'll all be streaming services :(

*Update!* My DNG channels closedown playlist is *_AVAILABLE NOW!_* Though you need to search it yourself, 'cuz I don't want to spam my playlist link. Also, Fox Life U.S.'s closedown is in that playlist, though that channel wasn't closed due to Disney+.

As the whole Disney and FOX (formerly Star) shutdown happened in the whole Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, Disney Channel and Disney Junior are still airing in Taiwan but they'll be closing down by January 1, 2022.

@@yunsos Nope. Someone told me they were closing next month.
@@roast-thekamenrider8591 Actually, I just read around on Taiwan and it does say that it's closing January 1, 2022. So whoever told you that it was closing next month might have got it wrong. They might be thinking of Marvel HQ (Which replaced Disney XD India).

Back to this video again, nice to see you again @Sonarix (your compilation video of shutting down Disney channels around the world was my favourite videos).
Just two years after this video was made, Disney now closing its remaining channels in Asia (excluding Japan). The channels that will close : National Geographic, National Geographic Wild, Star Chinese Movies, Star Chinese Channel (Southeast Asia/Hong Kong/Taiwan/Korea, Nat Geo channels including Middle East & North Africa region), Star Movies, and Star World (Taiwan).

BabyTV in Southeast Asia is also closing on September 1st
@@duffywendell Doubt about this because I'm suspecting it was a Wikipedia vandalism, but we'll see on 1st September and 1st October (the channel had been dropped by several pay-TV operators in Asia such as Astro and UnifiTV in Malaysia and NowTV in Hong Kong).
@@duffywendell Well, they're still on air as of 1st September, we have remaining days for Nat Geo channels until 1st October (and maybe BabyTV, although I'm suspecting that MNC Vision/Play in Indonesia would only dropping Nat Geo channels, AFAIK the BabyTV Indonesian distribution are held by Dori Media who also partnering on another MNC Vision/Play channel FMN (a telenovela channel)).

Will you do part 4 on the shutdown of latin America channels on March 31 2022?

Star Butterfly? I think we found a girl to be a candidate for converting into Anime Character.
Someone found the first shutdown which is Disney XD in Australia
I don't know why they decided to change the name of Fox to Star here in Latin America, it makes no sense and lacks the brand recognition of Fox, so when you tell people about the Star channel they think it's just another random channel.
Star is Fox?!
Hell that’s news to me!
The reason Is because Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox didn't include the use of Fox
@@legocityhey6967 meanwhile in an alternate universe, Rupert Murdoch disapproved the Disney-Fox merger.
20:40 oh my god I don't wanna here Disney Channel in that tone again 😭
America will probably have it until 2023. Bye nostalgia after that .
In the US standard plan for Disney+ is 7.99 & annual is 19.99. Disney won’t cancel fox here in the states because of sports agreements.
Mainly NFL license agreements.
And another reasons why is the simpsons.

The weird thing is in the USA Fox is still continuing
Not weird at all, the US does things differently than any other country, and this is where FOX, Disney, etc was born. If the channels shut down here too, we would be the last place where it shuts down.
The FOX branded channels in the US won't go anywhere as they're not owned by the House of Mouse but rather by the Murdochs via the FOX Corporation, the same happening to all his belongings in his home country of Australia.
