I would also say, don't move to Japan with the expectancy to live rent free in people homes. I've seen people literally fly to Japan in the airport, asking locals if they have a place to stay because they have no money. Makes zero sense to travel to a country to hitchhike., better off staying in their own country to save up enough funds to move.

I don’t think they are scared I think they just don’t want to. They like their countries as it is and I am not sure why there is push for Japan to become a multiracial society. If Japan becomes multiracial, it would no longer be Japan. that isn't good or bad, I jus don't agree with foreigners imposing that Japanese need to be multiracial for their own selfish reasons. Japanese have a lot of underneath societal issues that they have not dealt with, that are of immediate concern that in my opinion, opening the doors to immigration would only exasperate.

I am a 50 years old Japanese woman. I'm not good at English. I'm sorry when you offended. It will be longer.
When I was a kid, we thought foreigners were only white Americans. And we had a negative impression on them living in Japan. After the war, many white soldiers had relationships with Japanese women and gave birth to children. However, many of them returned to their home countries leaving their children and Japanese women behind. At that time, single-mother families were rare and their life was difficult. Now the negative emotions are gone, but at that time we was blaming those Japanese women who approached white men for money, were abandoned, and made their children feel lonely.
On the other hand, the image of black people was Michael Jackson, the song "we are the world", Eddie Murphy, Carl Lewis, Florence Joiner. It was cool and good people. After that, Anton Wicky Ampalavanar, a dark-skinned Sri Lankan, began to appear on Japanese morning show from 1979 to 1990, and became popular. His japanese were perfect and he had a corner where he could give English lessons to Japanese people he met on the streets of Tokyo when foreigners who could speak Japanese were rare. Since then, Japanese-speaking black people have often appeared on TV. It was faster than people of other races, such as whites and Hispanics. He may be the start.
I want him to be interviewed.
Historically and geographically, we have strong feelings toward China, South Korea, and North Korea which are similar to the Japanese, but we have little to do with Black, Hispanic, the African, the Middle East, Islam, and Jews. Also we didn't get much information from another countries, so we don't have a solid image of them.
I know the history of the slave trade, but we think it's a story of the past, and like "human beings started in Africa" and "Mongolia was domineering", we think of the present and the past separately. There may be deeper circumstances for you, and some people say that the image of black people is bad, but the bad image of blacks is not well established in Japan.

    • @Katlady001
      @Katlady001 3 года назад +14

I hear what you’re saying but there’s no excuse Japan is advanced country they know about black culture because they have copied it in some cases. Fortunately, I found a Japanese barber who is able to do a fairly decent job once I give him a picture of a low fade. He actually tries to do a little lining up as well. For clothing it's UNIQLO, and sometimes Hard Off or WonderEx. And being 14 hours removed from Jamaica does affect regular communication with people in the West. As a Christian believer, finding a faith community to worship with here is also a challenge, so that's another thing expats have to be prepared for.

It might be because of where I worked (a convention center working with different people,) but I seen some hostility towards minorities that made me question my own identity and I was living in the USA. A lot of stereotypes with my own race from not only other races but black people themselves (why don't you listen to rap, why don't you eat greens/cabbage/etc. why do you only listen to 'chinese music') because I didn't act like the common black person (I ate asian foods outside of Chinese foods, I like different cultures like German, etc.) So it might be a case of it being everywhere in the world and being black/a minority.

Truthfully, these are just curated stories because this channel is based on the Black/JP experience. But Interracial couples are not THAT common especially between black and asian. In 2 of the videos accounting their experience, both guys said it's easier for black men compared to black women because japanese men are very reserved to even approach japanese women, much less approach another race which is even more out of their comfort zone. Strictly going there expecting to find love is not so easy. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist. But don't make it look so easy or your sole reason to move to the other side of world on a gamble.

Im not exactly black myself, more so West Indian/Caribbean(Guyanese). While my hair might be straight, I do share a high level of melanin with my fellow Caribbean brothers and sisters so I can see some of these things applying to myself. None of them so far have been deal breakers.
Probably the single biggest worry I have about Japan is will I as a foreigner, be able to truly connect and make meaningful lasting friendships/relationships with Japanese people or even other foreigners in Japan. I wonder if the relationships I build will all be based in "tatemae", just to be polite or keep a light connection rather than actually becoming great friends.

Excellent video, Ranzo. Very valid points. I have found that every single one of the 5 issues and the accompanying coping mechanisms you and your wife reference are also EXACTLY the same for several European countries that I have lived in. The key is to acknowledge and adapt to the differences. Of course, as you explained throughout the video, everyone has to decide for themselves the threshold for how much and/or how quickly one can adapt. Having/making a local support system of some sort helps immensely - it is well worth the (sometimes creative) effort to build one up from scratch. However, regardless of a local support system, the *most* important factor is mental agility. Being resilient and confident in one's self typically results in everything else eventually getting sorted. ...Well, that has been my experience, anyway. Wishing continued success to you. Thanks much for the outstanding video!

Criminals are not “getting a pass” in the US. We are one of the only countries that have a for profit prison system and people go to jail for all kinds of minuscule things (not to mention killed just for being suspicious inn some cases).

What’s funny is my sister is the same way and she doesn’t go natural. She learned from RUclips how to straighten her hair and do weaves and all that.

Hello Ranzo. The tough one for me is standing out. I forgot about that one. I have been in China before so I understand it from the China perspective. I am currently in Thailand and many of the Thai are brown skinned people. I am black American and some of the Thai are darker skinned than I am. So in Thailand being black is not such an issue for me from that perspective. However I forgot that if I were in Japan, I’d stand out completely. Thanks for reminding me. ~ B.

THANK you for trying to be honest!!!! So many expat videos on how WONNNNderful Ghana is, I moved there, and bwoyyy meeyah tell yuh.... DEM LIE!!!..... Western expats need to STOP glorifying certain foreign hotspots WITHOUT PROVIDING BOTH SIDES.....
For Ghana expat videos, they only discuss minor ish like occasional blackouts and unpaved roads... When what they SHOULD be discussing are the things we all discuss IN PRIVATE-- like the outrageous misogyny and rape culture, the almost nonexistence of any form of legal system/ law and order, which in turn makes it difficult to do business when here's NO RECOURSE for the overwhelming number of THIEVES that saturate this country, YES, more than the States.
Ghana is NOT for single women, "boss ladies", or anyone who gets unnerved by mass corruption and bribery as being a "normal" DAILY part of life!

Just as a tourist when I went to South Korea as a woman, you want to shop for shoes, heels, sneakers whatever and they didn't have a my size! I was like sighhh and thought about the 'what if I lived here'. Definitely clothes! I found that in Korea too, I was there for two weeks and H&M was my friend! We always forget something when we travel lol and yes and SPAO but I think anyone who wants to move to Japan, this channel has the wheels spinning like hmmm lol but I think you gotta go for the adventure. In watching I thought about when I was at college and I went to a historically Black college in the U.S. and it was a rural environment and also not home in general so it was like where do I shop? How do I get my hair done and I feel like that same exploration can be applied to Japan or east Asia in general. You find 'your people' literally and make stuff work.

Asians in general are more tribal than Americans, especially in their own country. Their culture is also very traditional, conservative and strict. They are very serious minded and competitive as well. Anyone regardless of ethnicity should be ready to compete at a higher level. The things in this video are mostly superficial things that are not very important.

Yet we as a community are the ones funding and will continue to fund their pockets/bank accounts!...

I definitely can relate to all of the reasons you mentioned and have also experienced these matters in other countries, except the one about children since I have none. White people think they have it hard here; black and brown populations here have it that much harder beyond what they could understand and possibly experience. I just had to laugh at one who wanted to argue that appearance is not that important here.
