My dad died this past May, and finding this man's version has been like pouring ointment on a raw wound. Stings a little, but there's healing in there, too Thanks from this 70 year old woman/ little girl who loves and misses her daddy.
4:19.........................My dad passed away peacefully on 10 April 2023. That verse of this song will resonate with me forever...... I wasn't there that morning When my Father passed away I didn't get to tell him All the things I had to say.....
Alfred Innes try to understand, he did the bet he could with what he had, you are blessed to see and recognize his shortcomings, and won’t make the same mistakes. But you will make some, hopefully your children will be as understanding as you. You’ll be fine.
Never heard this version or of this singer but he did a FANTASTIC job. Even the ending added power to the song. With both parents now gone can't hold back the tears hearing this 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
The world lost a great man on May 18th, Jacque Fresco, and I find solace in listening to this song. Thank you for creating such a comforting song which I can return to when a passing happens. R.I.P. Jacque
My Dad is 80 with prostrate cancer and COPD since he smoked since 12 years of age. He's to old for Surgery so he gets monthly injections to try keep it at bay but its spread to his insides of his nose but they can get rid of that hospital said. He hasnt quit smoking and only retired 2 years ago when he got diagnosed with cancer. Hes been a grafter all his life. I know hes not going to last much longer and when he dies i dont think i could listen to this song again. Hes actually my Step Dad but brought me up since i was 6 months old and also brought up my older brothers and Sisters. I always called him Dad even now. My real Dad is an Ahole who could leave my Mum with all those Kids to bring up alone and disappear with his bit on the side, he never paid a penny towards Child Maintenance even though hes extremely rich and owned his own Businesses. Dont get me wrong if i or any my brothers or sisters need money then my real Dad always gives us it and never takes it back but thats nothing in comparison to what my Step Dad has done for us all.
‘This guy’ is Andrew Roachford who had several recognisable hits of his own with his band ‘Roachford’ such as Cuddly Toy, Only to Be with You, and This Generation. You’ll likely know them when you hear them.
No doubt that this is one of the greatest song ever, it makes me cry every time I hear it or watch it even though I'm 56 and Dad passed away 24 years ago. However I must admit that with the voice of Paul Carrack the feeling was much more emotional than this time
I am absolutely with you! Nobody could sing this song with more soul than the outstanding Andrew Roachford. And this comes from one of the greatest Paul Carrack fans.
this is one of my favourite songs and has touched my heart everytime I have heard it . Ever since it come out . I'm not usually big on covers usually but this is very good . It has got me teary eyed anyway.
The song was written by Mike Rutherford and B.A. Robertson, released by Mike & the Mechanics in 1988 & possibly their biggest hit. Why do you think it's a cover ?
Didn't realise it was them tbh dude . watched this very drunk lol. glad you commented as I got to find it and enjoy it all over again 👍👍👍 cheers my man 👍👍👍
Very spiritual... putting the past behind us... Forgiveness....we want peace , love and understanding on earth 🌎🙏🌈🌝💜⭐🎵🎵 thank you Mike and the mechanics🤗
I had many differences with my Dad, it wasn't until my 30s that i resolved them, sadly at 49 i lost him.i wish he was still here, i have so much more i want to say. This song made me resolve those issues and difficult times we had when i was a child wat back when this was released. Do it today, go see him, son or daughter go to him and sort it, then enjoy your time you both have left together. RIP DAD (John) Thanks BA Robertson (check the writers version) it was his experience in the lyrics he wrote. just copy and paste this (ba robertson living years above ) and also you will hear the name of the young babys real name from the song, and there is a surprize at the end of video(i wont tell you,it will spoil it), you think this version makes you cry watch this one the way it was meant to be.
Outstanding version. Love Paul Carrick singing but the Roachford version is superb. I remember seeing him suppirt Terence Trent D'Arby at Leeds Queens Hall a long time ago xxx
Somebody said you are no Paul carrick , but as a person who has lighter skin , down to my pigmentation ,Paul carrick would easily say , great job bruv , or brother we all play the same music on the same piano , black or white , the true god Jehovah loves all those who make an effort to love and please him , with the reassurance of a better life ahead , once again seeing our lost loved ones in Jehovah's new system
That was a great job on the vocals. That might be the best song ever composed in my opinion. You have to have a soul to sing this song. Andrew has a big, big soul!!! Andrew Roachford takes over the lead vocals from Paul Carrick very well.
Andrew Roachford has such an amazing voice. I was there in the crowd for this performance but also saw him on the Hard Rock Stage at IOW in 2019 doing his own set and he was incredible (Brought on KT Tunstall to do Cuddly Toy and they were having the best fun together) I like how Mike Rutherford lost Paul Carrack and Paul Young (the later sadly passed away) but replaced them with two amazing singers. Roachford does all the Carrack tracks and Tim Howar (the other singer) does the Paul Young led tracks as he has a slighty more rocky voice. Incidentally Howar is also a West End and Broadway star and my wife and I saw him play Phantom in Phantom of the Opera in London a few years after this and he was fantastic.
watching it back giving me goosebumps I was there and they where amazing especially this song first time at the festival definitely going back next year
Beautiful interpretation! I did not know this new lineup from Mike and Mechanics. As wonderful as the vocals of Paul Carrack. Congratulations to both of you.
This song has always had a double meaning firstly as a class record, then when you lose yr father or mother it takes on a whole new meaning it could bring tears to a glass eye great version but Paul Carrick's vocals are the best
The singer’s voice is soulful.
My dad died this past May, and finding this man's version has been like pouring ointment on a raw wound. Stings a little, but there's healing in there, too

A great Song with sensitive motions😊
But he was with you, and still is. I swear it.
This song makes me cry , I have kids , I hope I'm not the same as my father was to me
Alfred Innes try to understand, he did the bet he could with what he had, you are blessed to see and recognize his shortcomings, and won’t make the same mistakes. But you will make some, hopefully your children will be as understanding as you. You’ll be fine.
None of us do. We all strive to be better.
@@markmuldoon805 Agreed. And still I find myself repeating the same mistakes from time to time.
My stepfather was a brutal man but my mother was my saving grace who suffered to save us
what a marvelous rendition of what is now a timeless song. have heard it a million times, but ........ chills. just chills.
Never heard this version or of this singer but he did a FANTASTIC job. Even the ending added power to the song. With both parents now gone can't hold back the tears hearing this 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
ever since i was a kid......this song has had such a profound impact on me.

I played this at my dad's funeral
This is such a beautiful song! The lyrics are beautiful! The meaning is so deep that few will care to devote the time to grasp the true understanding!
Such a powerful song. Even without Paul Carrack’s lead vocals, still pulls you into its emotional grasp. Hear hear Mike and the Mechanics.
Andrew Roach was awesome singing this
@@inittowinit6633 ABSOLUTELY.!!

wow! 2021 and this music is taking me back to a time before my existence. RIP to my father.
I remember listening to this song in college, and starting an eulogy for my father. The only one I will ever write.
I have never heard this man before. I love his voice. I like it sung by him, as much as I like the original.
Agreed, While Paul Carrack version will forever be etched in my mind, this guy does a great job with this Iconic song
‘This guy’ is Andrew Roachford who had several recognisable hits of his own with his band ‘Roachford’ such as Cuddly Toy, Only to Be with You, and This Generation. You’ll likely know them when you hear them.
I'm tearing up miss my dad so much
My dad right after the pandemic started and he got me intro this song. I miss him every day

There are very few songs and are both heartfelt and relatable. I always get emotional when I hear this song.
Wow what a voice who is this guy?
Truly amazing
It's Andrew Roachford. He's a British singer/songwriter who had some huge hits in the late 80's & early 90's.
@@paulsummerton1028 thank you for that I hope he's gonna keep singing for future reference music desperately needs him

Missing the song of the 80's so meaningful, feeling nostalgic.
This song gives me goose biumps on arms and back of neck.

In your defense it is a difference lead singer. Paul Carrick sang the original.
Best come-back comment ever Gareth...I WAS PRETTY DRUNK...now you can come back AGAIN and listen to it.
Andrew Roachford is such a talent, Permanent Shade of Blue is an absolute classic album, Mike has chosen well!!
Totally agree, well worth a listen for anyone who hasn't heard his early stuff. This man has an incredible voice.
