I had read that a reason they hide their faces was that being a Maid is a part time job for many. So they don't want their picture taken as it could back to their other job. Causing them lose that job
Alot of maid cafes trying to get business just in this area of the city. I would feel guilty about not going to all of them when they are doing their best and are also so close to eachother that you see when customers talk to them but not you. Gonna try and make it a point to go to each and everyone of them. Gonna be expensive but I'm curious lol. I'll just go and order something cheap in each one to give them some business and myself a memory. I do that with local mom and pop shops or smaller stores here in the west, I'll do so in the east someday when I can visit not just maid cafes but other small places too not trying to go to chain shops or restaurants. Great video!
Very interesting video! I like the friendly girls who don't seem to care about the camera, but I understand all that you are saying. And these girls are working, so they have 'some' control over their images. It's a job to them, not just a fun encounter with random strangers. Please continue to make excellent videos!
That and some shyness and privacy in general. Japanese are naturally shy and to themselves. They are getting better at it though as time goes on and more foreigners visit which is nice to see.
I assumed they were embarrassed by their job and those that stare at the camera are not embarrassed, but this is more of a 'secret identity' issue? interesting.
I am not sure why people think that Cafe Maids are embarrassed by appearing and that is why they hide their faces. Lots of them are happy to be in a job that gives them n opportunity to perform and be in the hospitality business. But as many of them charge for their pictures it makes s sense to not allow free pictures.
Thank you for the detailed explanation of covering the faces of the coffee girls when filming or taking photos. As a German, I asked myself in every video why so many Japanese girls do that. Now I understand.👍👍👍

I’m betting it has more to do with privacy and less to do with protecting their employer’s profits. Probably don’t want some creepy guy taking their pic. They’re probably overreacting, but whatever.
Good to watch your video Japan Explorer whereas in Japan businesses are vibrant and flourishing, people can enjoy their lives, freely walking on the streets in the evening. It's very contrast to USA big cities e.g. New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland where crimes are rampant, businesses closing being ransacked, burglarized.
The sign says Eat Me x Like A Doll 👈you can search this exact poster on Google Image (the LL in doll is slightly cut off in the poster and hidden by the planter in JE's video) Eat Me is a clothes brand that did a colab design for concept café Like A Doll (instead of maids they are meant to be dolls)
It's their personal boundaries at the end of the day as someone walking around with a camera pointing at their faces is generally looking to make content, content they did not sign off on. They don't know what the context of the content is, whether it's innocent or some perverted reasons.
Not all of the money, but a big chunk. A part of the money for a cheki covers the expenses the cafe has for buying and providing the cameras and film cartriges.
No not at all. Its like saying the people in disney costumes are...no they are just advertising. If you want a picture of Cinderella you shall have to go visit the disney cafe. For the safety part not quite, there are some creeps with cameras who record or take pictures without permission. Thus why sometimes is a reason why the girls cover their faces too. I saw afew videos of girls talking about some random japanese guy coming up out of nowhere to take pics of them, saying thanks and running away. It is "safe-ish" but weird or stalker like so that can be another reason for the hiding of the faces.
@@Fate862 So you are saying Tokyo is not really safe. Good to know, I also believe it's very sad for these girls to stay outside long hours to make a living.
That's...the whole point of channels like this. They walk around. Granted, JE does some unique things within this space about 30-40% of the time...maybe even more. But to call it boring is like calling a book boring because it has words. What did u expect?
Thank you for clarifying this! Sometimes I thought they might not have wanted their family to see them in their dresses.
Your explanations make so much sense. I knew about charging for a picture inside the cafes but I hadn't considered your other points. Thank you! 🌸👍🏻
Thank you :)

It's not prostitution or anything even close
@@scottdarden3091 It is a job that would get someone fired from a corporation in Japan.

hello again JE, i really enjoyed the walk again , well done and thank you 😊

Why Tokyo's Maid Cafe Girl Hide Her Face?
I think the same
Not everyone want their photos in public forums. It’s called privacy. I watched these videos but this is essentially unwelcome voyeurism
So that they don't have to smile for 4 hours lol
the girl at 17:53 was so cute
Maybe they want to keep their employment history on the hush hush...
👍👍👍
Don't judge me but i think this is very cute
Maybe one of the cute rickshaw girls?
no rickshaw girl there haha
All the cheki money goes to them, right? And not just a percentage.
Not all of the money, but a big chunk. A part of the money for a cheki covers the expenses the cafe has for buying and providing the cameras and film cartriges.
It's because they don't want to be filmed? Duh. No offense, but do you want to be filmed by a random youtuber? I sure don't.
Is that protitution? The only good point is that these girls are safe, security in Tokyo is almost perfect.
