I'm using the KEF LSX I for over three years now and I still love the sound quality and especially the design. I think they are the best (compact) speakers for any desk setup. There's no reason for me to upgrade though.
5:33 those left/right arrows are source inputs. For the longest time I was convinced the remote had no source input because of your video until I pulled up the manual
These speakers are a good introduction for people searching for a much better audio quality than what they experianced up to now for small area in the room. The problem is, the price is too high and not alot of people can afford it. At least they should lower the price for the generic colors: black/white to be more accessible.
Well, the reason why most reviewers don't do that is very simple: You will be listening to the audio through different speakers or headphones. You won't have any idea what they sound like in real life.
I'm listening at this video in my £40 Logitech speakers, after the sound already went trough the least ideal conditions of procesing and recording and thinking. "I'm not sure if they sound that good". 🧐 only because I can't afford them but deep down knowing I would absolutely love them. great content chap!.
Wish they had a high-end wireless component system (at least 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos) without needing a separate receiver. Besides less cable clutter, that system would be far superior to the best soundbars.
I have the LS50 Meta speakers so know these will sound very good. But anyone who would spend £1200 on these will probably have no issue buying the LS50 Wireless II’s for £2000. They should have aimed to target the £800 price point to rival high end sound bars like Sonos.
Thank you for a great video! I just got mine in Mineral White, today. Not only did your video finalize my decision, but you also answered some setup questions that I had as well. By the way, I use Roon, and I direct connected the LSX II via USB to my Mac mini, that allows me to get 24/192 from Qobuz. 😃 I absolutely love the sound of the LSX II, and I couldn't be happier with getting them. Thanks, again! 🙏🏽
Question Tom. Would you recommend these as desktop speakers with a MacBook pro 16 inch or are there better options? Mainly used for playing music whilst working but also for RUclips etc. possibly a video going through all the best desktop speaker options? I’d really appreciate your advice.
KEF LSX design is very nice. I liked fabric cabinet, colours and overall aesthetic, but PSB Alpha IQ provides much better detalization and bass at the same price point. I bought both of them.
@ I listen mostly metal, rock, electronic and sometimes instrumental. I compared both speakers in person on a variety of music samples. KEF LSX was overall noticeably bleak with a weaker bass. KEF woofer and tweeter center positioning is more of an aesthetic/marketing feature. Looks really cool but doesn’t improve sound quality.
@Boris-Jx Now that makes sense as I only listen to melodic death metal and bass definition is the most important thing (in my opinion and to my ears). Thank you
When you do not have enough room in your apartment or house to hear classical music with 'towering enferno bass reflex active boxes' wich even require expensive pre-amplifiers, then the investment of about 1500$ for this Kef alternative might be a good solution. Byy why do we hear at 2:18 only noice of a racing car instead of a Rossini opera or just a tenor aria to detec whether or not these two Kef models do reproduce the voice without any 'loudspreaker coloratura'? The stands that are available for this model are only briefly shown in this video, but they are useful for those who do not want to place the boxes on a bookshelf. These boses have a High frequency tweeter: 19 mm (0.75in.) aluminium dome and a HF: 19 mm (0.75in.) dôme aluminium and a Low frequency/Middlerange speaker: 115 mm (4.5in.) magnesium/aluminium dome - totally 2 speakers for three frequencys.
do they connect to Apple? My Bose soundbar volume is controlled through my Apple TV remote. I would like these to replace my Bose soundbar but want to make sure my ease of use is going to be the same. THANKS!
And Also you could get a Pair of Ruark MR1 MK2's and a REL T ZERO sub for alot cheaper maybe not as loud as these and doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the KEFS but just get a network streamer and plug into the Ruarks opitcal and stream any of the services like tidal spotify amazon music exc
hi just wondering how you connected these to your pc was it just usb c just looking at maybe getting them as my pc speakers and maybe use for music with amazon thanks
I love my oled tv as my monitor and my Sonos Arc (upgraded to 5.1) for my sound setup. Great for pc use and movie watching. 2.1 is still 2.1 at the end of the day and kef can’t change that.
I've tried the sonos arc compared to my q950 it's not even comparable the kefs sound soo much better. This was a test done on movies not music where the sonos should have the advantage
Yet my 3.1 sound system is several fold better sounding lol. Something that blows average people away as they’ve never heard anything close to higher end (Sonos at its best is lower mid range sound quality). But I guess you’d expect that being my 3 speakers, sub, and receiver used to cost $6700 before inflation and price jacking. Now the new models of my things skyrocketed to $8600 msrp (which really isn’t a justified increase).
Do you have any experience with Devialets phantoms? I've got 2 gold at over £6ks worth. Considering selling them for something cheaper as they don't get a huge amount of use.... however they are stunning when I do use them and don't want to be disappointed with a downgrade
I've had a pair of LSX 2's wallmounted for about a month. They sound outstanding, but I've found a very annoying bug that I hope KEF fixes... the speakers occasionally won't "wake up" on the app, and won't pair with the desired source. Only workaround I've found is delete the speakers in Google home and the KEF connect app and re-add the speakers. They look and sound amazing, though.
When it comes to speakers - you really do get what you pay for - don’t over look Monitor Audio however as they deliver epic sound for half the prices of Kef .
@Dishonerd303 bro it still doesn't explain why you actually took the time out of YOUR day to reply to a comment you don't care at all about, makes no damn sense.
If you're going that route, have a look at the KEF LS50 Wireless II. Plenty of other active-speaker options. Q Acoustics, Dynaudio. Personally I prefer Chord Electronics DAC doing my conversion. That means a dedicated amp and speakers, plus quality speaker and interconnect cable.
Sorry edited. Originally suggested KEF LS 50 Meta Wireless. That name was wrong. It's the KEF LS50 Wireless II. .. They are based on the passive KEF LS50 Meta.
They look amazing and I want some decent speakers to add to my desk, but £1200 and without a subwoofer is a lot of money. The cheapest KEF subwoofer is £1500. That’s just too rich for me
I use the LSX 1 as my desktop speakers with a MacBook Pro. The wireless connection is prone to lag and there are some sync problems with some games, I haven't tried a wired connection yet but would be messy using Thunderbolt through a DAC or headphone socket/coax cable. Also Tidal Connect does not work on the LSX 1, not heard if it works on the LSX 2. Overall the best sounding and best looking pair of desk speakers around.
I brought a pair and have not heard a single note out of them because I have no idea how to set them up because the app just stops at step 4 and goes no further. Feels like I wasted $3000 for nothing.
Beautiful to look at, but very expensive. Audio Pro C20 deliver incredible bass compared to these, I’ve heard both, two of them for a stereo setup will be sub £1k.
So, in other countries, they have the ked egg x, which is the same driver, in an egg shaped shell, with all the same features. Its like 300$ us. Only problem? China/singapore/taiwan/korea are the only people that get it.
Eh, not really? Just my receiver was 1300 and lets not talk about the speakers.... but these are too pricy for what they are, could have maybe gotten some actual studio monitors for that with bigger drivers or something. And it doesnt have to be wireless thats whats making them even more expensive, completely unnecessary.
Tech RUclipsr "I made a massive awesome upgrade with my TV/PC/Notebook/speaker!" Also: Thanks xyz for sponsor this video and sending me this stuff for free! Thanks for the review, I'm sure these will do well, 5 star reviews are coming in. I had my eye on the version 1s, these are no doubt great sounding but when you start looking online you see the nightmare users reported with the app. Maybe KEF solved all the issues - I don't know and also doubt it, but I think if the remote had all the basic functions on it then it would have been great. Instead I'm interested in the likes of Acoustic Energy AE1 active speakers, but they don't have a built in DAC and these KEFs do.
LSX II use entirely different apps to LSX I, same one as the LS50 Wireless II which I own and have no issues with the latest firmware/app pairing. You just stream native from music apps, so only use the Kef app for amp and network config like one time.
Horses for courses. Not everyone wants all the other electronics. These are basically plug and play. I’d definitely consider them for a bedroom system.
Please also tell that USB connection on these speakers sucks big time. On wake-up it is set to 100% and balance is shifted too. Poor software support. Also at low volume these speakers do not sound like a 1500 Euro speakers at all.
These look pretty cool but are simply too expensive for most people to want. I mean when it costs as much as a mid range gaming PC, you really have to care a lot about your sound (or have a ton of money) to shell out for these.
these unfortunately cannot justify the price tag. If you are into audiophile, do not get scared of having cables for best audio experience. KEF Q150, Elac Debut 5.2, JBL Stage A130 or Sony SSCS5 are great budget speakers around 150 to 350 plus 100 for an amp would be pleasing your ears no doubt.
Now I need to compare some of this cheaper systems to my Vifa Copenhagen 2.0 because it sounds better than everything I've tried so far sounds worse (even the pair of Dali Opticon 5s).
Save plenty of $$ and nip down to the local audio shop and but an amp and a decent set of speakers, and the system can grow with you; you'll thank me later.
I know you’re sponsored by KEF... But please try troubleshooting or reaching customer support as if you had purchased your own. See if they will offer to fix the LSX’s within the warranty period… wish reviews would consider that. Would never buy KEF again
Hey Chaps! I’m an idiot, you can change input with the left/right buttons on controller 😅
How about KEF LS50 Meta Wireless?🤚
Phew!! This was going to be a deal breaker for me! Thanks for clarifying!
hey tech , i had to return the original version as i found it too fatiguing at the high end..did they adjust that wih the II's?
Thanks. That's exactly what I'm going to do
I'm using the KEF LSX I for over three years now and I still love the sound quality and especially the design. I think they are the best (compact) speakers for any desk setup. There's no reason for me to upgrade though.

@@davyhoogy The ticket isn't resenting having to work.
Finally someone who actually let's us hear what the speakers sound like.
Well, the reason why most reviewers don't do that is very simple: You will be listening to the audio through different speakers or headphones. You won't have any idea what they sound like in real life.
I like the different colors. Only the black would really go with my decor, though, and it would match my depressed mood after spending so much money.

Nice review. theses are great bookshelf speakers, lacking some bass in my view but depends on what you intend to use them for or generally listen to.
Your videos are so helpful & entertaining. Plus it helps that you're handsome too! 🌸
Just Bought myself a set of the carbon black for the kitchen. Can’t wait
Indeed change input with remote controller left/right button ..shows different colors for input.

These are in a difference league to sonos
Price is not always the issue. Definite size difference between the LS50 Wireless II and LSX. The latter works much better imo for desktop setups.
Great review! Finally, HDMI!!! Perfect. Good job KEF!
Excellent choice!I have the Edifier G5000 cause i dont have the money for Kef's but they are very good for their price.
are they compared to Audio Monitors? or just regular speakers? by the price they are pretty close to Studio Audio Monitors...

Question Tom. Would you recommend these as desktop speakers with a MacBook pro 16 inch or are there better options? Mainly used for playing music whilst working but also for RUclips etc. possibly a video going through all the best desktop speaker options? I’d really appreciate your advice.
Since these are essentially mid-range speakers, how good is the bass?
I am not talking about SPL bass, how good is the definition?
KEF LSX design is very nice. I liked fabric cabinet, colours and overall aesthetic, but PSB Alpha IQ provides much better detalization and bass at the same price point. I bought both of them.

E-arc isn't needed for a two channel setup. Anything claiming to do Atmos/surround sound with two speakers is a gimmick😅.
