What does good tone man to me? Full, round & warm sound coming from my harmonica. Here's one more tip: relax. Try to reduce all tension in the body, especially around the throat, neck, jaw and lips.
Whenever anyone asks about blues tone, or who influenced me, I mention the same names: You, William Clarke, and Kim Wilson. Tone is subjective, but when it comes to milking every bit of it from a harp, the 3 of you are tops.
I like the open throat tip ;,that and breathing through the diaphragm gets me clearer tone at volume. My air also now has better staying power on long sustained notes, thanks.
Man this is one of the best music lessons. Very good sharing of perspective, advice, and demonstration. Perfect timing on this info for me!! Really digging on these videos Ronnie, thanks.
I’m a blues rock guitar player of 40+ years so I’m all about tone. After playing blues harmonica for almost 2 years I bought a set of JDR Assassins. They’ve got the dirty thick nasty tone I’ve been looking for. Only drawback is the 1D is a bit of a challenge.
At 62 and a 50-year ex-smoker I still keep trying bravado is my biggest hang up draw notes I'm not too bad at but bravado kills me still working on how to keep the air moving
It's really tough to describe. Just begin breathing in as you try it. Listen carefully to the sound I'm making throughout this video as I breath in without the harmonica in my mouth. It has that darth vader-like sound.aha..there ya go! Try imitating D.V.
