Hi, I'm thinking of getting one of these lamps but I already have two dimmable vintage lumen bulbs by GE similar to the ones you're using but they're bigger and I'm not sure if the ones I have will work on this lamp so I was wondering if you've tried any other bigger bulbs on this and know if other bulbs work?
No hate here. The gas lamp is $30, but the bulbs are a mandatory secondary buy from IKEA. This is a great example of where Amazon or somewhere else comes into play. I found $1.00 replicas. I am an electrician in Canada.
It's great that you have found alternatives. Always good to have another supply, just incase IKEA stops producing. I always thought it would be awesome if you could get a flickering version to make it even more like an oil lamp!
Hi Mike. After watching your review I just bought this lamp today. I love the idea behind it, it really is a beautiful lamp, but when I turn it on it makes a small continuous noise that doesn't dissappear unless I turn it off. I think this will be annoying as during nighttime it's quiet. I was wondering if yours is the same or if mine is just broken.
This will be the bulb you are using. I have had various led and filament bulbs that hum or buzz. Try a better quality bulb and see if that helps. I found the cheaper bulbs, especially from pound/dollar shops dont perform as well as the more expensive led bulbs.
@@MikesRetroTech Thanks for responding! I would have thought it's the bulb as well, if I wouldn't have bought two of them just to be on the safe side, and unfortunately that buzzing is the same. I'll see if I can get used to it in few days then I'll see again. 😄 Thank you!
I would say, if the bulb illuminates when you turn on the lamp then the bulb is ok. If there is no light, then the bulb is broken. The led bulbs are fairly cheap to replace, but they should last many years. Possibly you may have a faulty lamp?
hey, mate . nice video . can you help me? i’ve bought this lamp and I really love it . But now i have no idea how to change the light bulb of it . i’m confused and afraid of breaking it 😅
If you hold the base firmly and pull the glass up, it should pop up out of the fixings. Be careful as the gass is fragile, but it should pull out of the base failry easily, then you should be able to unscrew the bulb from the fitting.
I would say yes, but it would depend on the bulb you have fitted. I am not sure how well the LED bulbs will work if left on for long periods of time. I think mine used to get quite hot, so maybe it is not a good idea?
Sorry, i don't think you can get replacement parts for Ikea products like this. I would take it back to Ikea and try to get it replaced under the warranty/product guarantee period if you can.
I just bought 2 of these & a different LED dimmable bulb. The bulb on both will not shut off when the dimmer is turned down to the “off” click! My voltmeter shows that the socket is still ‘hot’ with the lamp off. Can you check to see if yours does the same?
Yes, my lamps turn the bulbs off completely when turned down to the 'click' position. We have them controlled by Amazon Echo so never use the rotary switch, but i have just tested and the bulbs turn off completely. I will upload an amendment video when I get time showing this happening
Hi, I am not sure about the flickering flame type bulb, but if its a dimmable one then it should be ok. The bulbs we have are just standard dimmable LEDs so the 'dimness' can get very low indeed. As we only ever have them on full, I cannot really comment on dimmed light.
Is there a way to fix that? I just bought one today and my bulb flickers when in the dimmable setting as well. I'm going to buy a new bulb to see if the issue is with the bulb that came with it.
the glass should just pull away from the base. there are some springy brass fingers that hold it into place. have you tried to pull the glass away from the base (gently, of course?)
Thanks for the video Mike!
Thank you, that answered a few questions for me. Will buy it too. Looks nice and cosy.
Hi, Thanks for the positive comment. Its a really good lamp and with the right bulb, lights up the room well.
Hey thanks for the video. Helped me install my own lamp
No problem 👍
I have it and I love it !!

No sorry, I only used the bulbs that IKEA had at the time. I no longer have these lamps so cannot try any other bulbs.

Can you link the alternative here? I've heard from others who bought cheaper bulbs that would make buzzing noises

Excellent video 👌🏻

Hi, I have mine since 2020. Can you tell me if the bulb is broken, is there are this “klick” sound, wenn you turn on the light?

Can i let over night on and on low light

Hello, I just bought this product recently and the glass lamp shade had broken on accident, is there anyway to get a replacement?

hi is the low light or mood lighting good? because I want something that is like a small candle light in terms of lighting

Mine flickers in the dimmable setting. Is this normal?
I am not sure. It could be the lamp or the bulb? - Are they really dimeable bulbs or just normal ones?

Mine don’t even turn off.. I really like the lamps so I’m torn on returning them
Thankyou
Does anyone know how to remove the glass to replace the bulb?
