Hello, I have a question: I've seen videos where people used larger than standard 1/4" tools on Taig lathe. Of course the tool posts were either modified or custom made for those larger tools. What are the benefits of using a larger tool on the Taig lathe?
Larger toobits are easier to come by, (for the most part) We make 1/4" High Speed steel tool bits but most folks prefer 1/4 or 3/8 with brazed on carbide tips or inserts, however high speed is sharper and gives a nice finish. But.........You can go faster with carbide. If your skilled the finish will be just as good.

No, not necessary but a good habit to have.
