The Hate Speech point I don't think is very well informed. Hate speech shouldn't be condoned, it's going to be everywhere, but it usually impedes on the sense of security and safety of others and should therefore always be actively countered as much as possible. This is why in most constitutions discrimination is illegal and punishable. Also, I think you have the loss of users a bit backwards. People aren't on a platform because of the music that's available, they are on the platform for the creators. Yet, creators (especially musicians) are threatening to move away from the platform, and their followers might follow suit if similar instances occur. So there is a risk for TikTok, I just think the narrative is a little skewed. I also want to add that the platform for indie artists to have their comeuppance is already TikTok. Many, many semi unknown artists have entered mainstream stardom because their music went viral as background clips on TikTok (and Instagram and Shorts). I found artists such as Connor Price, bbno$ and Moon Hooch, just to name a few from the top of my head, because they went viral on TikTok (and other shorts platforms). Nonetheless, keep working on your research and keep making videos. You got this, bro
Thank you. I mean, in terms of the hate speech, I’m not saying TikTok shouldn’t do anything, but there’s only so much you can do since there’s always gonna be bad people out there. Obviously, I don’t condone hate speech. Universal bringing that up as one of their points just kinda confused me since they’re mainly talking about the musicians. I think they may’ve briefly covered something about their musicians getting some form of hate speech thrown their way though. In terms of the loss of users, I said TikTok COULD lose users, not that they will lose users. It’s a possibility, definitely, but not to the point where it could destroy the company. You made a good point about certain creators/musicians moving to other platforms, which could definitely hurt TikTok in the short term. In terms of the indie artists, I know that a lot of them have come up from TikTok already. My point there was that this boosts them up even more due to the huge loss of potential competition. Now, people are gonna be forced to use different sounds, possibly leading them down the path of indie artists that haven’t got the spotlight they deserve yet. I greatly appreciate the feedback though, and I’ll keep doing my best when it comes to providing people with accurate information and good entertainment 🙏
