True. If you look at US American history from the perspective of a foreigner (Im German), you realize that the US f*cked up more than once. These events were:
      1. The genocide and cultural annihilation of the Native American Tribes. They still live in "reservoirs" (even the word in connection with fellow human beings is cringy) and have very often forgotten their own language and culture.
      2. The Nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Was that really necessary? I dont Think so.
      3. Vietnam war. The Americans came to a foreign land with foreign culture and foreign Terrain and they expect to win? Not to to forget the debatable Napalm bombings. You guys didnt win. You Lost it in the worst way you can.
      3. The whole Chaos in the Middle East is basically your fault. You armed up the Shah of Persia back in the 70s, he oppressed his populace so much that they gathered around a fanatic religious leader to get rid of him. Then you guys armed up a certain Saddam Hussein to cancel Khomeini (the fanatic). A few years Down the river and you get your sh*t back on 9/11. I am sorry for the victims, but you have to see where that comes from.
These are just the biggest examples which I have right now.

To be fair, it’s reservations, however that’s simply semantics. Everything you said is correct and disgusting and makes me sad to be an American. The colonization and enslavement has never stopped. They just call it by other names. My family immigrated here almost 160 years ago from Oedenburg, Hungary. Which isn’t doing great either apparently, given the 1938-ish speech Viktor Orbán gave at CPAC last week. The world feels like it teetering more than it has in a while, and Americans are fighting about pronouns and women’s body autonomy. Honestly, there’s a lot of people who are just done with all of it. Not in like a violent kind of way, but like why am I participating in a system that doesn’t have our best interests in mind, doesn’t pay us enough to live, increases prices on everything, and tells us to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, knowing good and well that we can’t even afford bootstraps. We’re participating in a system created and designed to keep us struggling so we can build wealth for the already wealthy and powerful. I’m so over it.

But when you listen to the entire thing, it’s a call on Americans to make this country a better place. One thing though, I must say is that I am happy that you as an American can freely express your opinion as most European can. In Russia, China, North Korea and some other countries they can not. Why is it so hard to love your country and at the same time criticize it. It should not be like that. If you really love, you should be able to tell the truth as you see it. I know many of us European have no problem liking the USA and what you have done for our security, but we are are troubled by to days polarisation in US politics. It is really amazing that almost every American only understands what his country really is like when he has left it and lives in another. Many certainly get an idea if they still live there, but this idea is also just a fallacy. You only see the full extent when you have left the country. Which, by the way, also applies to every other country. Only when you leave your own country and live in another (live and not just visit), you realize how bad or good you really were in your home country.

What keeps amazing me as a veteran is that American veterans allways say they bring freedom and democracy. But when it comes to freedom of speech, freedom to vote for the side you think is best for your country, or anyone with another opinion about anything these same people get rude and start insulting or ridiculing the person with a different opinion. That not only goes for vets, but for Americans in general.

Less focus on money being the number 1 thing, more focus on the people, their health and wellbeing, instead of bleeding them dry in healthcare, paying poverty wages, etc. Making sure people actually only need 1 job to get and maybe buy a house or even rent one, then it can be great again.....but i guess that's a pipedream for every country and its citizens. Really? You mean, you wouldn't even do it if you were offered a billion dollars? That's a little ridiculous. Yes, the US is massively flawed, but money can fix a lot of those flaws. If you're uber-wealthy in the US, you can live a very nice life. Not to mention, you can find good people anywhere you go in the world. I mean, I don't want to leave the US personally (I want to try to help make it better), but if I was offered a billion dollars, I'd move anywhere, provided that I can guarantee my personal safety.

Sometime in the seventies, the U.S. ended up listening to the PR that corporations put out. The laws and SCOTUS decisions stopped favoring citizens rights, and started favoring Corporations rights. If you look at any of the countries in the world who's citizens rank among the happiest and most content, you will find one of the big factors is they have implemented policies that were first introduced in the U.S. They were then stopped being used in the U.S. because corporate america lobbied against those ideas. Look at any international corporation that operates in the U.S., the on thing you can be guaranteed of is that the American workers are much worse off than workers from other countries, doing the same job, for the same employee. Other countries have enacted laws to protect employees and to provide them with a work/life balance. In America if you strive for a work/life balance you risk losing your job..

I applaud any American that can start to question the things they are spoon fed from a young age. Considering the power and conviction of jingoism forced upon you all the time, it is impressive that so many Americans are beginning similar journeys on youtube. It certainly gives a sense of hope that more and more people are starting to wake up and realise that true patriotism is realising your countries flaws, acknowledging them, and trying to fix them. There can be no doubt that America is a fantastic country with a truly great people. That's what makes it such a shame that the nation is circling the drain on so many issues. Europe is by no means perfect, but on many policies and programmes America needs to shed its pride and realise what it can learn from Europe and what can be achieved in a society that works together at a more unified level. It's a big ask for a large population, but it can certainly be done.

  • @mystica97

I was blessed to live in Europe for 4 years as an army wife. I found out that we are nowhere near the greatest country in the world. We are naive, we are ignorant, we are insulated, and we are immature. Our country spends so much time defending ourselves, that we forgot something. To look at ourselves. Regardless of politics or country, we ALL have to share this tiny green and blue planet. I say tiny because we forgot to know how much we just don't know. We see ignorant as a bad thing and nationalism as good. Nothing is all good or bad. Ignorant just means we have room to learn and grow, nationalism means we've put ourselves in a self- limiting box that doesn't allow us to grow. We lack the ability to take what is best in the world and apply it. The truly sad thing there? We choose that option again and again. We can be better, we have been better and we have the FREEDOM to choose it again. But we have to be able to look at ourselves honestly. As a person, a state, a country, and as humans.

The myth goes deeper, many US citizens think the US are the best in anything. Which is obviously not true. Some think the US ends up in the top five on anything so on average close to the top, but that's an illusion as well.
These illusions have led to the idea that nothing can be improved, because they are the best already. And to the idea that, because they are the best, cannot learn anything from others.
There is nothing wrong in loving your country, but blind love is rarely a good thing.
Though other countries can show nationalism, pride, chauvinism but also look across the borders to see where they can improve their country, the US rarely does, and prefers to invent the wheel again, because all others are inferior.

Please don’t take this as being rude. I never understood why Americans say ‘American is the greatest country in the world’. All countries have some greatest in them. I’m Australian and I love and am very patriotic about my country as other people feel about their own country, but I could never say arrogantly Australia is the greatest country in the world. Saying you are the greatest, only my thoughts is like a bully child saying “I’m the favourite and greatest child in this family”.
We ALL live on one small planet in a gigantic universe and we are all the same, human. We can and should admire the good in every country, help countries not doing as well - as humans on one planet we are all like family and, wishful thinking on my part, respect, admire the good in every country. Stick together and help other countries not doing as well. Protect other countries being attacked. Ok I’m a dreamer, it’ll probably never happen. But one country on this small planet calling themselves the greatest, I personally find that offensive to every other great country on this tiny planet.

Their culture has influenced the world- people wear Levi’s and use Apple iPhones even in remote areas of China. McDonalds is in every country on earth..
