That's amazing. Do you have any dedicated course or resource focusing on Shading and techniques mentioned in this video? If anyone knows, please do share.
Thank you! You may want to check out the e-book in the description. The two part series we made after this, "20 Advanced 2D Shader Effects," is a loose follow up to this video (if you check the playlists of Unity's channel, there is a "2D Tech Art" playlist). Generally, most of the resources on normal maps and tools like Substance are for 3D--for modelers or material/texture artists--so we wanted to make this video as an introduction for 2D artists :)
I am using the sprite secondary textures with the sprite atlas packer for 3d projected meshes (think vfx matte painting workflows, but assets are painted). It required a lot of additional tooling. Has the api to this changed recently or is this still on the same state as in unity 2022? Because there was room for improvement 😬
Ah, should have mentioned that. We used the latest LTS version 22 at the time of the video--looks like 22.3.31. It should work fine as long as it's typed exactly right :)
add a mask map to a sprite (sprite editor > secondary textures) the mask can be drawn selecting the channel R for example and painting white the highlight areas and black the areas not impacted by the 2D light... Then create a 2D light that uses the blending style that only affects the R channel.. check our Happy Harvest or the previous video about it, it might help
Can anyone explain why when i import 1 object .fbx to unity it tooks 10 hours long? How to deal with it? Really fustating for college project that need faster to submit task
@@bonzero i will post it, but in this time just 5 hours, 2 days ago i wait it while watching 5 video tutorial, its really long, night to morning i wait it untill i slept
creating games for mobiles is really hard need to optimize all areas of your game. I give up on mobile games the system of gradle, errors, build, weak hardware, and all of these make me avoid making games for mobiles. PC games are much easier to deal with
I love these very in depth explanations behind art and the technical aspects in particular. Keep it up!
Personally I wouldn’t support them do a little research on how greedy they have gotten and what they are doing f corporate greed.

Wonderful explanation not only on Unity features but on general visual effects concepts
I can watch this 20 times and not get tired. so many details. Thanks!
Insanely helpful tutorial. can we please have more of these?
Thanks tutorials on lighting and shaders are really helpful!
Amazing stuff and tutorial! Gets my creative passion flowing and makes me want to hop straight in and creating. Keep it up guys! Great job on this
This is an awesome explanation 👏 👏 👏
This is a very informative and detailed video. Holy smokes.
Great video. Have to watch few times to understand everything.
pretty nice video for starter artists...
really awesome Video !! Thanks
great tutorial thanks unity!
1:55 this is a good example of why we need those Unity China features 👀
ps whoever is making these videos is doing a great job 👍
Great video 👏
great video!!!
very informative. thanks
Top quality tutorial eventhough i am not fan of this art style
i just tried chat gpt and i asked it to create normal map of a random item and it actually did a pretty good job, so you can try that too

what version is it ? I have to fill the name of sencond texture myself, there is no dropdown list can select texture's name

hey there's a bug on Unity 6 preview on Mac that doesn't show the drop list, this is fixed in 6000.0.14f1
How can I incorporate a sprite mask into this shader to enhance the light details along the sprite's edges?

for sure that doesn't sound normal... what kind of file you are importing? have you tried with another fbx file?

and you put the normal map in the shader graph and all goes down hill from there
why unity is very bad into shader and light and shadow
Godot would never ☠☠
Like how the games still look so bad despite having these techniques for free
Not all games
Some people are still learning not to use the engine before implementing things like this 😇
In Unreal engine polygon count is no longer a problem
But the performance is so bad, especially on mobile.
Is it really?
Your performance is bad because you spend too much time on your phone
not necessarily if you know what you are doing
