(2) If anything, I'd hope that since this turned out to be an engineered spectacle, the woman would be proud of the response to the comedic value of her performance rather than be made to feel like a victim. A comedic actress or actor can not be surprised for people laughing at their performance.
I knew it! I knew it I knew it I knew it I knew it! The second I saw Andy I burst out laughing, immediate vibes of The Yes Lab when watching it, yet at the same time the security part threw me off. Nice effort guys.
(1) Confusing. It's disappointing to see my video response go down as merely laughing at someone. It seems clear the sympathies to the cause are aligned in the remix, and I'd only hope that it would further the kind of attention The Yes Men and other forward-thinkers are trying to bring upon outmoded technologies.
I saw this on another site and knew it was fake. The lady just stands in the stream instead of getting out of the way. The whole, "Why are you still filming? Give me that cell phone." thing was over the top, and then they all bailed from the room like someone tossed a grenade in it. Over some spilled wine? Seriously, how so many people, with filmmaking experience, could put something so obviously fake together is beyond me.
Diogenes - don't worry, Dorli didn't mean you. She hasn't yet seen your remix but she'll no doubt love it. There were some cheap shots in the comments, and that's what she's referring to. The team behind the original love your work too.
(4) It is upsetting to think that I made this woman feel bad about herself in some way, even without seeing her as victim (again) of pepper spray. I hope she'll understand the sentiment is not intended as she's taking it to be. Best, Diogenes
Well no, because I've read a lot of comments here and elsewhere where people actually believe this happened at an Shell-event, and this wasn't done by actors. That's how much the world has dumbed down already.
(3) The situation she participated in manufacturing is funny, which is partly why it went viral in the first place. So if I'm guilty of exploiting a comedic element of her performance for the cause, then so is she and the people she worked with to make this. She did a fine job though, as did everyone else involved. Hopefully she can know that this video remix is not a laugh at her personally.
In this video we see the proper way to have your audience both lose respect for you and gain back respect for your target. Shell must not be so bad if Greenpeace has to make up stuff to show us instead of using facts.
There are no incentives to drill; Companies absorb the cost and risk in exchange for potentially finding oil. The open market sets oil price, not private oil and gas companies. Also, are you aware of how much government makes by taxing oil revenue? They take a major chunk from the sale of oil, then they hit you again at the pumps. That's why private oil and gas companies make up a small % of the world's production. National oil companies (government owned) make up the majority.
just-world hypothesis (or just-world fallacy) is a cognitive bias referring to the common assumption that the outcomes of situations are caused or guided by some universal force of justice, order, stability, or desert.
I wanted to like this video because I like what the yes men are trying to accomplish (& I also won't give it a dislike vote for this reason) but if I were to vote on the quality of the video alone I would vote it down, it fell far short of its potential.
..incentives in the billions which allows them to drill cheaply and sell petrol at an 'affordable' price. Without these tax incentives that oil companies demand, the price of petrol would quadruple. It's a very inefficient and reckless monopoly. That and getting electric cars as the majority of vehicles sold would help since electric cars don't consume products oil companies produce, unlike Hydrogen and Bio-Fuel.
I followed the Yes Men for quite a while but I think they are kind of dumb. They take no responsibility and they love to hear themselves talk way to much. When I personally asked them a question about whether they really knew enough about the issues to do these kind of things I got a "no" for an answer. Since then I just don't think anything they do adds up to anything because their reason is always "companies are bad!" blablabla and no real arguments.
Ooh boohoo hoo. Where did I exactly state that Shell didn't? This "but they're doing it to"-argument is so cheap and stupid. This video remains what it is: propaganda. Maybe you are totally into propaganda, with your defensive comment, but I'm not.
Shameful. While I tend to agree with their politics, I find this kind of deception off-putting and counter-productive to an otherwise good cause. Come on, guys...truth always wins in the end. No need to stage such obviously fake events in order to prove a point. However the Shell hotties at 2:15 were a nice touch. ;)
I have no problem with protest, but you should at least do your research. The Kulluk has drilled many wells in the Arctic, and it was, in fact, designed for that region. The Deepwater Horizon disaster was due to a poor well design, not the vessel itself. I realize your whole slant is towards using a hoax, but try not to miguide your followers. It's irresponsible.
YES - You guys Rock! Creativity and humour combined perfectly. Go on! We want more!
(2) If anything, I'd hope that since this turned out to be an engineered spectacle, the woman would be proud of the response to the comedic value of her performance rather than be made to feel like a victim. A comedic actress or actor can not be surprised for people laughing at their performance.
Proud to be a continual customer of Shell

I love you guys............thanks for all you do
I LOVE that they made the oil rig spill!!! HAHAHA "I can't turn it off!" hahaha
Wonderful foreshadowing.
Good story, bro.
Such a strong argument you brought to the table there.
I love how shell is trying not the get humiliated.. try to cover things up... the video is REAL !
yes man, Environmental science academy from Netherlands, loves you!
Pretty good job ... can't wait to see more of this.
stop disliking this video, any type of protest against oil companies is a good thing.
I saw this on another site and knew it was fake. The lady just stands in the stream instead of getting out of the way. The whole, "Why are you still filming? The funny part is that no one was really making fun of her...

I can't stop laughing at the guy's eyebrows at 1:46

Best,
Diogenes
Oil companies are not the problem. If we, the consumer, stopped using so much oil, there would be little demand for it.
you guys rock!!! keep up the good work
I must assume there are no ways to factually combat oil companies, which is why you have to resort to hoaxes.
Well no, because I've read a lot of comments here and elsewhere where people actually believe this happened at an Shell-event, and this wasn't done by actors.
That's how much the world has dumbed down already.
Great band

hahahaha "agabuugakakdiemndkdolakadaka!!!!"
Lying to us will not garner sympathy, Greenpeace.
reddit already uncovered this anyways
It wasn't revealed. It was exposed.
just-world hypothesis (or just-world fallacy) is a cognitive bias referring to the common assumption that the outcomes of situations are caused or guided by some universal force of justice, order, stability, or desert.
Good one!!!
YES
Yeah because oil isn't required for anything.
I wanted to like this video because I like what the yes men are trying to accomplish (& I also won't give it a dislike vote for this reason) but if I were to vote on the quality of the video alone I would vote it down, it fell far short of its potential.
Nice; like it much. Good idea ...
Reveal was too soon IMHO. You could have gotten another 250K views before tomorrow. Now the debate is over.
And I thought the woman getting pepper sprayed was real. Eye drops and make-up or did she pepper spray herself?

isnt that kind of the point?
Oh you'd like that now, wouldn't you?
Awesome :D
Never trust anything on the Interwebz. Not even all the cat pictures are real! ;)
Thanks for your hasty diagnosis and suggested treatment. You'd make a terrible doctor. Pay attention next time.
can i have some money then????
Hohohoho Mini Oil Spill
I like the auto tune, but it’s not exactly funny.... and the only yes men I like is the movie and the screaming on guy on the kappa Mikey! Cartoon!
graet idea :D
so basically the old tart faked occupy incident as well? no offense but it seem that way

Jeez, isn't it enough that you are violating the planet, you need us to support your cause as well?
Ooh boohoo hoo.
Where did I exactly state that Shell didn't?
This "but they're doing it to"-argument is so cheap and stupid.
This video remains what it is: propaganda.
Maybe you are totally into propaganda, with your defensive comment, but I'm not.
haha that the way the oil spill will take place. Get ready for the worst everyone ;)
