    The videos along these lines have been mostly virtual advertisements for loading shovels. The actual largest shovels were the high wall stripping shovels, such as The Silver Spade, The Gem of Egypt, Big Brutus, etc. Some had 100 plus, cu yard buckets, which would bury the hauling trucks in this video, with one bucket. Big Brutus, which, thanks for showing a little of here, might be the only one left, was not the largest of its kind, by any means, but was large enough, and is an inoperable museum, at present.

    Berkeley Forge (Now Bierwith Forge) has designed the Optima shovel lip system for P&H with the largest one as OP110( WH 12 back in the year 2005. Now it has the latest design of the shovel lip system named as slick lip used on a P&H 2800 in a Mississippi lignite coal mine.

      Cool 👍😊. My friends dad helped build the pad for the space shuttles and I think late 90s Paul helped rebuild it to. Paul and his sister ( dang old age I can't remember her name) talked to me for hours after Paul and his son with my dad and myself stopped at the bucket of the Muskie.

    You would think that a channel that “specializes” in heavy equipment would actually know how to pronounce “Bucyrus”!

    9:50 is that a bell hanging off the back?

    • @gp500fan
      @gp500fan Год назад

      It's not a bell. It's a guide marker so that when the shovel is set up in the pit for double back up, the trucks are able to use that to spot themselves on their blind side. It helps eliminate the need for the shovel operator to spot the trucks, moves more material and improves efficiency in the mine.

    what baffles me about these grat shovels is how the bucket is opened by a pull on a little rope!
    How doe sthe catch work that it is so easily opened?

    • @shadovanish7435
      @shadovanish7435 Год назад

      The catch is a sliding bar attached to the bucket's door, & the bar slides into a rectangular slot on the bottom edge of the rear of the bucket. The sliding bar is moved out of the slot in the bucket by a mechanical linkage arrangement, which is actuated by the cable (rope) seen in the video. The mechanical linkage arrangement is designed to maximize mechanical advantage, to provide the necessary force to move the sliding bar.
      Once the sliding bar is moved out of the bucket's slot, the bucket door opens (falls open under gravity), & the excavated material falls from the bucket. To close the bucket's door, the sliding bar re-engages into the bucket's slot (under spring force, I believe) as the bucket moves from a horizontal position to a more vertical position. I hope this helps; a diagram showing the bucket door latch mechanism would have been helpful with my explanation.
