to respond to the oxtail cut of meat. yea they are considered gourmet now but i remember when i was a kid oxtails were cheap AF and were considered throw away meat. when a certain demographic (yall know who i'm talking about)finally found out about how good they are when stewed down they turned it into this super expensive cut of meat.....oxtails used to be what "poor" people ate. thats capitalism for you.
Always a cheap cut, but it's what we ate.
My pops use to say the same thing about sea food back in the day and I’m 40. And bring Puerto Rican we loved it
Same with lobster and shrimp...we make ish pop
Maybe your location, but in my 40 years in Northern California I've only had one homie that cooked or even brought up oxtails. I did go to a Cuban place the other week ang got oxtails. They were $15 with rice. The stew was $24. That's regular prices of Mexican and Chinese plates around here.
@@SidewaysInTraffic notice i said cut of meat.... not what they cost at a restaurant. Most restaurants either buy in bulk or have deals with meat distributors they so don't cost what they cost regular consumers. What do they cost per lb in s grocery store? Also read the other responses they concurred I'm sure we don't all live in the same city.
The Caribbean Islands 🏝 have so many flavors 😋 and People from all over the world 🌎. This is why the food is delicious.
Yes, I agree.
All thanks to Indian people in the Caribbeans.
I love that JL be promoting the smaller Mom& Pop restaurants, which are the fabric of quality food eating. It's home made and customized. If one could taste food from a screen, this vlog would be tasty as hell. That fried bread, mango curry, and the goat curry all look hella fire. Also, I'm Korean so I do love that Ox-Tail yo. 💥
💯
As a Trini this makes me happy, that food looked so fire !
💛 to all my Trini’s! It’s not a Roti spot if there’s no doubles!
Or cow heel soup
@@stillirise7813 Exactly!
What? I have never bought a doubles by a roti shop in TT...i buy my doubles by the doubles vendor!
I love all Caribbean food, but Trinidadian food is, without a doubt, the tastiest carribean cuisine (in my opinion)!
JL, if you're ever in the DMV again, you have to try Carribean Flavor in Germantown, Maryland. Excellent authentic Trini cuisine.
Sorry I don't think so but Surinamese food is the nr.1 even though were South Americans. Even other Carribean people that visit Suriname say it has the best food and way more diverse. We have the best food across the whole of the diaspora and I visited a lot of the Islands and the USA. Nothing compares to Suriname food Barbodos was nothing waste of time, Jamaica and their Jerk Chicken is the only thing they promote and is nothing. Trinidad and Tobago so so The best thing is the Tobago Island itself as it has or at least had no crime years ago, and USA food I just don't like that just nonsense not healthy cooking. We have the best fruits and vegetables also. Sorry not sorry.
@@daily9930 Hello Daily, no need to say sorry my friend. That's your opinion. Notice i specifically typed "in my opinion". I was speaking for myself. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Much respect to Suriname, Guyana, and all of the other South American nations. ✌
Aren't indo Trinidadian and indo Guyanese foods and curry/roti the same though ? I've had some AMAZING roti and curry from Indo-Guyanese and they were equally as good as the Trini. They are both top of the line to me. All the Caribbeans food is top of the line world class !
@@daily9930 What are Surinames specialties. All the Caribbean has tons of specialties. They're all stars. Patties, Ackee and salt fish, mannish water, bake and shark , ducana/blue drawer , chicken soup, conchs,, pepper pot, fish, . Jerk is in a class by itself. But I would love to try Suriname specialties.
@@kimwalter8753 oh please don’t say that Guyanese curry is totally different they use garam masala and Trinis don’t. Trinis also have their our own curry made in Trinidad itself. I could never eat Guyanese curry because it makes me sick. I know other Guyanese who can’t eat their own curry, always like the Trini food, more of a variety and very flavorful..
Trinidadians definitely cook these dishes the best.
This is why I miss living near Philly and coming from New York. So many multicultural foods. Thanks for sharing.
Green seasoning is the equivalent of sofrito for Puerto Ricans ! We island cousins
Trinidadian here 🇹🇹
I never had Trinidadian food. Looks similar to Indian food and I am a huge fan of Indian food. Looks delicious!
Wherever the British took The Indians to the food has its roots and has kept ... In my country 160yrs later , indian in Africa, n we do roti, curry, puri mango pickles etc very similar
It is Indian food. Half of the population of Trinidad is of East Indian is Indian
@nejo4664 Trinbagonian foods are influenced by Indian, African, Europeans, Spanish, Chinese, and Middle Eastern Foods but with a twist of Caribbean flavor. I am Trinbagonian from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹
@@MsAngelali Thanks for informing me, good to know.
Also, I missed out one of the most important information… the foods are also influenced by the natives Caribs and Arawaks who were there before us all. I enjoyed your video. Great content 😉
So funny I was born and semi raised in the virgin islands. Grow up with alot of trini people that look like Indians and blacks. The culture is amazing and it's a mix of Indian food and African food. It's such a great history to learn. Thank you guys
Indian/Pakistani food. There’s no such thing as just ‘Indian food.’
@@ILoveJahangeer Pakistan food is derived from Indian food. Learn your history brah
@@bl6369 You can’t just branch everything South Asian under Indian, it doesn’t work that way. It’s like saying African and Caribbean food is all the same, when it’s not.
I know my peoples history extremely well, therefore, you don’t need to tell me to learn it.
@Mr Jahangeer B Pakistan's were original Indian people. They formed their own territory in the 1940's. Sure since that time they have definitely created their unique culture but my point is they are very very similar people.
@@bl6369 Absolutely! No doubt about it!!!
Sarrah's Cafe in East Orange NJ is 🔥 🔥. Her doubles are too good
JL...
Dog-gone-it...I'm speechless!😢
THANK you so much for this! Aunties, THANK you for the Generational Feast of pure LOVE!!!❤ DELISH, DELISH, DELISH!!!😋😋😋
Damn I love Trini Food!!! Make me miss living in Queens NY. I never thought to have doubles with shrimp or chicken. I have to do that next time I visit NYC again.
🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹So happy to be a Trini ❤❤❤❤
Great video. Aunty is a whole vibe.😊 Food looks amazing.
So many Trinis in Toronto. Weird that it's not the same in Philly.
Facts. I'm from the West end of the city
Why is it weird?
Trini food is special food of the Caribbean! I love fried bread and fried stuff bread, salt fish and rice. I say bacalao. In NYC you can get good Trini food in Ozone Park and Richmond Hill, used to be I'm not sure now.
WHERE?? Love Trinidadian Roti. My very first roti was in June 84 when I spent the summer in Trinidad & Tobago... As soon we landed, we went for roti! I was 13. Can't wait to watch this video. Yum.
Bussup Shut translates to Burst up shirt. It's like a shirt that's torn up. Hence roti that looks like a torn up shirt is called bussup shut.
Allyuh need to try some pelau, crab and callaloo, macaroni pie, green banana and saltfish etc...
I’m always looking for Trini spots. They are so rare around here. ❤ 🇹🇹
Traditionally, doubles does not come with shrimp or chicken or any meat, just channa and ain't eaten like sandwich. You eat the doubles like how you eat that buss up shut with the chicken and potato etc. ❤
Fry salmon and aloo pie - modern twist on an aloo pie that you also put channa with different condiments. ❤
Fried bake or coconut bake and salt fishhh/smoke herring. ❤
We do dhal, rice and salt fish and eat it with our hands. ❤
Trini chow - mango, plum, five finger, pineapple w/salt, fresh pepper etc - we make a chow out of anything. ❤
Oxtail - we usually eat with rice but we eat with roti too. ❤
Green seasoning - chive, garlic, onion, ginger, pimento pepper etc. ❤
Ginger beer, maybe and sorrel ❤
🇹🇹 🇹🇹 🇹🇹
It all sounds so delicious 😋. Never had Trinidadian food but I would love to try it.
Who we eat rice and dhal with their hands? lol I've never done that
@@ricko2301 it's a sometimes type of thing.
@@tianarodriguez4046 well that's not what you said.
I love the other guy's energy too. He made me stoked and I've tried all of that before so I already know it's 🔥
I love the whole Trini vibe, food, and culture! I’m blessed with roots from there❤
Thank you.
Love this episode Come to Brooklyn And queens next time got some real authentic Trinidadian food
A little lesson here, and a way to get right with different cultures and foods. I'm a goat roti wrap fan, but this is the way to eat it. I wish I could find this kind of cooking out here on LI, but at least I got my Trini Green seasoning.
You took the wrong person who does not know his culture. So happy you enjoyed.
Because of this video I woke up at 7am and drove 1hr to get these doubles. The best I had so far in NJ.
Hey JL, & Friend.. I love a good Jamaican/Trinidadian meal.. Roti is good & I love the ox tail.. Happy Thursday, have a great day.. ❤️🐞
My mouth is foaming. I’m Guyanese heritage. My family didn’t make doubles but they did make Roti and Puri and all curries - chicken, shrimp, goat, beef, lamb, fish. Salt fish and bake. Ackee and salt fish. Ox tails. Rice n peas. A lot of the Caribbean islands make similar foods but may have different names. Roti /buss up shut/ Paratha/ chapati. Definitely mixed with Indian and African influences. Good food is good food. My husband Haitian and his sisters introduced me to “green seasoning “ they call epis. Not sure the spelling. Thanks fro sharing. Trini always on the map. Not going anywhere. My Guyanese make good Roti but my Trini friends Roti is 🔥 . Thanks for sharing JL.
Thank you.
There are two roti shops in the Trenton area. I won't mention the other name because Annie's deserves a chance to shine. Blessings to Mr.Roy, the foundation.
Yo jl i think miz gonna like trini food and the other guy who you use to roll with the pescatarian guy i have been waiting for this a long time love from trinidad bro 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹 i tasted jamaican food but they can't do curry like trinidad the indians here don't play just my humble opinion please don't roast me in the comments
It’s great who you’re bringing different cultures together to try all the different types of food.the food is cooked with love and heart ,happiness, understanding.all the dish’s have their own unique flavors and tastes,it’s great to have someone to share everything with you, and give you a great understanding.what was in the menu that you didn’t eat.
You looked a bit overwhelmed with all that amazing food. Lol😊 You always make me hungry. Love your videos ❤
Thank you for sharing.
Much respect to the Queens! Love this video!
Talk about a Hidden gem!! Glad you shared this with us foodies! ❤
It’s crazy, I finally got to try a spot that he reviewed and he didn’t lie….it was good as hell. Those doubles hit the spot for real!!
Hey JL you need to take a trip to trinidad. You will lose your mind when it comes to our food there.🇹🇹🎉
Yes he would🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🔥🔥🔥
My man’s JL came thru to Trenton. I really appreciate you my brother.💪🏽
I agree that spot is really good but I prefer Roti Plus at 1147 S. Olden in Hamilton, NJ because their food is seasoned more, it's really fresh & Roti Plus is by far cleaner as well as very spacious. Now you can compare the 2 and see what I'm referring to. Thumbs up to both establishments for bringing the taste of the Islands to us.
You are absolutely right! I usually go to Roti Plus and I live in Philadelphia as well, I tried Annie’s today and I regretted I didn’t stick with Roti Plus, the chicken wasn’t seasoned enough and the roti was not as soft. I’m glad I tried it, the food was okay but I’ll stick with Roti Plus.
Great staff there. I’ve been going there for years. Food is excellent.
I loved watching food prepped overnight fire the next day in Trini. We only ate twice per day. I thought I gained a million pounds there when I spent the summer of 84 there. I came home probably 20 lbs lighter. There was no fast food or tons of snacks like back home in DC. Healthy Delicious Eating in Trini. I loved it.
Big up the Arsenal fan in the background 🙏🏾
Hot on the spot is ok there is another trini spot maybe 5 minutes from that location that's good but being half trini nothing like the home cooked meals
Being originally from Queens, I LOVEEEE Trini food 🥹🫶🏽
This food looks amazing
Direct from South Trinidad here enjoying this video. Really happy to see our cuisine being enjoyed this way even the gourmet twist with the doubles...Enjoy man #trinifoodthebest
The rum in the Am this is my favorite channel lol 💯
Otis McDonald is one of my favorite producers. Love when you sprinkle his songs in your videos.
Everything looks delicious 😋. That buss up shot with curry goat looks especially amazing!
THIS EPISODE WAS AWESOME JL.......THE CHEF IS RIGHT ABOUT THE OTHER ISLANDS TRYING TO MAKE ROTI, TRINIS GOT IT LIT.....
Indo Guyanese make excellent roti and curry too. They are both top of the line. The truth is the truth !

You all hanging outing the shop like you in Trinidad. I am so jealous of you getting all that good Trini food.
That's my spot. Pun intended 😁. Doubles are the best. Don't forget your red solo!
I thought that was y'all when I was pulling out the lot. Glad to have you back in the area.
Everything looks delicious 😋. Never had Trinidadian food, I would love to try it but we don't have it here where I live.
Aww you really gotta, I'm Trini so i've been spoiled with delicious food but its must try !
@@SGKingPhill I sure hope one day I get the opportunity to. It looks like some good comfort food 😋.

Love me some doubles and curry goat 🤤
Goat curry is a favorite of mine.🤤😋
@@nejo4664 sir sir sir its curry goat 😩 but yeah its a fav of mine. Same with oxtail.
@@Malikeh I usually get spicy goat curry, goat biryani, and cheese naan at a local Indian restaurant. Oxtail is good. I like to use beef ribs and oxtail when I make pho.
@@nejo4664 sir you’re still calling it goat curry🤦🏽♀️😂😂😂😂😂😂… Maybe thats an Indian thing but this video is an island ting and its curry goat. Omg I love pho. Not pronounced as FO. But yeah .. oxtail is a yummmmmmmer!! Expensive but worth it
@@Malikeh 😂😅 I didn't know there was a difference. Ok, the Islanders call the dish curry goat.
Brown sugar on 52st has some good roti in Philly
Dude you just ate all the best food✨💕
Trini Roti's are the best. I used to go to this little shop that was run by 2 little old trini women. The best.
Bro I love that episode for real
This looks amazing
In The Netherlands we have the roti in a wrap
annie's the actual GOAT. I walk there from my house on the regular. That and Roti Plus in Hamilton NJ are just soooooo good
I always go there. That's why they run out of food quickly. Only Trini spot near the area.
I've never had Trinidadian food but I have had Jamaican roti. All that food looked delicious and had me wishing I was there to help y'all eat it.
Trini is the real roti

Now these are the times I wish I had social media. This spot is only a mile from my house! Wish I knew you were gonna be there JL!!

I love doubles but I never had them with meat. The buss up shot looks official too. I definitely need to make my way down there. Hopedully they have shark and bake when i go!
My goodness this looks so good. Making me hungry.
Yes, the lady did tell you her way. I was thinking the same thing.

Ohhh how I miss cow heel soup.
Wat Up The Goat = J L , .... Keep up the Good Work indeed , ... Brauh .... I have been Chatting with Home Boy Miz , ... From S J ! , ... D M V Productions !!! ... Stay tuned for the Show !!! .... PEACEEEEE !!!
That double never seen with meat and the extra stuff but the double in Jamaica Queens at Singh's Roti Shop & Bar
It would taste better with Indian salads and pickles on the side❤
Hey JL, what's up good to see you again
This is mos def one of my next stops.
What we don't observe is that we influence each others cultures and food so there are plenty meals out there that are similar and practically the same thing just called by a different name. We migrate for many reasons and play our roles diligently in this universe.
Wow I need to go and eat at this location.. food looks good !!!
So many places have started after i left Trenton now i wish I was there lol
