I Love this idea, I have been a maker and user what I call "Hillbilly or Hobo" gear for Many years. As a Boy Scout we made homemade mess kits from empty tin cans and buckets( back when buckets were made of metal),I caught the fever and it never went away lol. Keep it up. 👍

I love your attitude of turning every day items or every day finds outside into actionable utilities.
That is what survival is all about.
It reminds me of the age old survival Q & A wisdom.
    “what’s the best survival equipment?”
“The stuff you have access to”
    Can be applied to anything.
Best survival knife? The one you have with you.
Best survival foods? The ones that grow where you are.
Best survival shelter? The one you can make with what you have in the time you have.
Best way of creating safe drinking water? The method you have access to given what you have.
Yours is a brilliant channel, because of the content, the ingenuity and of course the greatest of all survival tools, the right attitude.
    God bless you James.

Hi James from the 🇬🇧, some people use the green Swiss army type stereo stove. This is essentially a tin can with a screw top which comes with a sheet metal pot support which clips around the tin. As most people tend to throw the used tins away, the used pot support from these stoves should fit into the the bowl which may require bending to fit.
I have used one of these pot supports with a US army wood alcohol stove, it fits nicely around the tin or a small tin alcohol stove such as altoids or Vaseline tin or even hexamine tablets.

As a backup i use the BCB outdoor firedragon folding stove. Due to increasing arthritis something like this would be problematic to put together for me. But i do enjoy the thought process behind it. Until recently we were allowed to use campfires year round but due to increasing drought periods we now need to use gas or Esbit several months per year and only in designated areas. Alcohol stoves aren't allowed due to accidents with tipped burning trangia stoves.

Very smart, innovative idea. If you put a lid on and a windscreen around the pot with some 1" gap , you can make it boil with just one tablet - the windscreen heats the sides too, increasing the heating process.

I was in the Army when they transitioned from C rations to MREs ( Meals Rejected by Ethiopians) My NCOs were all Vietnam Vets. They taught us to make a small C- rat can stove. Take a small can - cut the lid off- drop lid inside. Use your P38 can opener to make cuts all around to bottom and top. One heat tab. Small size concentrated the heat on the bottom of the canteen cup. Pretty wind resistant and wouldn’t scorch the dirt-

What a fantastic ilight bulb dea! One suggestion if you have a long nose lighter, a guy from England who was a veteren from the Royal Army, he uses only one tablet and lights these tablets from beneath and this does a better job of burning longer.
I will have to experiment using this new idea of yours, to see if one tablet the way he demonstrated can stay lit longer by lighting from beneath.
I have a can opener that cuts the can lids off without leaving sharp edges, to make a flat fire proof base from a larger juice can in which to place the Strainer Stove over the lid before leaving a lit match beneath to light the tablet in the strainer. Or try a long nosed lighter beneath the stove for safety sake.

    • @WayPointSurvival

One may be able to fit a tea light under the pot as well. I am liking this idea, James.
