This is a really fun and easy stove to make and I hope that you enjoy using it as much as I enjoyed inventing and developing it. Thank you so much for watching and please leave me a comment in the section below!
Very Dope!!! That means EXCELLENT!!! YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE BEST DIY TRICKS AND HACKS!!! WHO NEEDS A LITTLE PROPANE STOVE?? I MEAN REALLY?? CHEAP AND IT WORKS!!! I WILL BE USING THIS TIP!! THANK YOU!!!
I Love this idea, I have been a maker and user what I call "Hillbilly or Hobo" gear for Many years. As a Boy Scout we made homemade mess kits from empty tin cans and buckets( back when buckets were made of metal),I caught the fever and it never went away lol. Keep it up. 👍
James, James, James! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I can’t keep up! You keep bringing us great projects! My brother had a similar idea a few years ago but he was suing a mesh strainer rather than that style. This is much better. Thanks again.
Hey...! You answered my question b4 I even asked it regarding using a dollar store strainer! Thanks! I see we're both $ Store fans when appropriate! Also, btw... I really appreciate your saying a prayer before you eat! Must always thank the One in Heaven for the food and nutrition He always gives to us! Bless you.
Absolutely unbelievable!!! I collect stoves of all kinds the cheaper the better. This is one of the cheapest, it is the fastest. I can make one free, I have the parts. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful gadgets with us. Your videos are informative and fun
James, that was THE BEST do it yourself camp cook stove I've seen so far. It's so compact and sturdy. Assembly is outta this world easy for people that aren't really good at building items. MAN YOU DO PHENOMENAL WORK JAMES, PLEASE KEEP THE GREAT CONTENT COMING!!! THIS IS DEFINITELY GOING IN MY BACKPACK TO USE.
James, you really are a wonder! I remember the thrill of making my first little tin can stove as a girl scout in the 60s, and your projects bring back all the fun and delight of that moment. Your creativity, and your eye for the potential in ordinary objects, are extraordinary. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos, and for creating so much fun for people of all ages and levels of experience.
I love your attitude of turning every day items or every day finds outside into actionable utilities. That is what survival is all about. It reminds me of the age old survival Q & A wisdom. “what’s the best survival equipment?” “The stuff you have access to” Can be applied to anything. Best survival knife? The one you have with you. Best survival foods? The ones that grow where you are. Best survival shelter? The one you can make with what you have in the time you have. Best way of creating safe drinking water? The method you have access to given what you have. Yours is a brilliant channel, because of the content, the ingenuity and of course the greatest of all survival tools, the right attitude. God bless you James.
Neat idea...I'm going to make the same stove and try charcoal briquettes for fuel. They produce heat for a fairly long time and I will use with a 360° wind guard. Thx for the idea!
Hi James from the 🇬🇧, some people use the green Swiss army type stereo stove. This is essentially a tin can with a screw top which comes with a sheet metal pot support which clips around the tin. As most people tend to throw the used tins away, the used pot support from these stoves should fit into the the bowl which may require bending to fit. I have used one of these pot supports with a US army wood alcohol stove, it fits nicely around the tin or a small tin alcohol stove such as altoids or Vaseline tin or even hexamine tablets.
You can sure tell it is winter because you're finding all kind of little ingenious projects to feel your time and again there's another tool for the survival kit lovely. I love it James you're great keep them coming. Have a great day stay safe and keep your powder dry!
I absolutely LOVE your videos. The thing I like most is that you really break it down for everyone to be able to do these projects. I’ve made several rocket stoves from metal coffee cans and have been saving more to teach my nephews how to make them. I always say we never know what we may face one day. Best be prepared for anything when it comes to survival. I appreciate your videos sincerely. I would love to take a course as well. I live in eastern Kentucky (Ashland area) so I’m not far!!! Keep it up my friend ❤️
Nice little stove you got there. Get you a tea light candle put there where you put the tabs use the stove in your tent to place your steel coffee cup on to keep your coffee hot while your drinking it while it’s really cold outside
RUclips suggested the first video of yours on the Hoboe light. Had a perfect size bottle about a third the size of what you used. A spent .243 round and a piece of 1/4" brake line fit with a little drilling/reaming. Been watching your videos ever since. Great stuff.
As a backup i use the BCB outdoor firedragon folding stove. Due to increasing arthritis something like this would be problematic to put together for me. But i do enjoy the thought process behind it. Until recently we were allowed to use campfires year round but due to increasing drought periods we now need to use gas or Esbit several months per year and only in designated areas. Alcohol stoves aren't allowed due to accidents with tipped burning trangia stoves.
I love ideas that repurpose items built for other reasons. I also love the look on the face of the kind old gentleman at the hardware store when I say I'm looking for a small round metal thingy with holes in it that I can make a stove out of. Lol. Great video keep em coming. Mike
James , you're the man . I honestly am telling you that this little stove deserves 10 thumbs up because ain't nobody thought about doing what you did . So my friend this video deserves 10 thumbs up . Epic video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💯👊👌
I love your vids especially the Stanley Cook set mods. I'm disabled and don't want to put vids online but I would be honored to show you a couple things I've learned over years. Just not publicly.
Neat little project.. I made the beanie weenie can stuffed with cotton balls, topped with pea size lava rock to cover the cotton and topped with steel window screen.. Bottle of rubbing alcohol and over an HR. burn time.
Dang Son, what a great simple stove that actually works! You can sick that thing in a sandwich baggy stick it in your shirt pocket hang a tin cup on ya belt and hit the trail! Oh yeah don't forget the swiss miss or a pack of coffee and have rest on a stump and enjoy, oh yeah, you have plenty of water in your canteen, so no problem. Thanks for sharing these tricks!
Excellent idea. You got me wondering if this dyi might also work for use with a alcohol stove. Possible using a different size of clips to work with a alcohol stove.
Good job ! I like this idea! " wind screen" .. 1pound coffee can,n , punch holes in it so it can breathe, but, not be affected by the weather/ wind!?? I tried it! It works!!
Very smart, innovative idea. If you put a lid on and a windscreen around the pot with some 1" gap , you can make it boil with just one tablet - the windscreen heats the sides too, increasing the heating process.
I was in the Army when they transitioned from C rations to MREs ( Meals Rejected by Ethiopians) My NCOs were all Vietnam Vets. They taught us to make a small C- rat can stove. Take a small can - cut the lid off- drop lid inside. Use your P38 can opener to make cuts all around to bottom and top. One heat tab. Small size concentrated the heat on the bottom of the canteen cup. Pretty wind resistant and wouldn’t scorch the dirt-
Nice Little DIY Stove Brother. Think I'll make up about a dozen and give one of these stoves, some of the Solid fuel tabs that you will make up in the future, put them in small zip up bag and give them to my Bush-Craft friends as Birthday presents. Thanks Brother, Bob StrongBear
O my dear.....I love it, I love it! Thank you so very much, this is the best, simple and easy O my goodness thank you for this video. I have been looking for something simple to cook with. I can’t thank you enough! We love you from Anaheim California USA 🇺🇸 💕
I like the ingenuity of this design and if I didn't already have ESBIT stoves and old British Military "Tommy Cookers", I would probably make one. Great video.
Man super sweet super easy super cheap quick breakdown design easy to pack away in a little storage bag man that is a mind-blowing experience right there thank you so much for that
I have seen some nice hobo stoves and DIY stoves but this one is genius especially because there is no machining or cutting. Thanks for the great idea.
I find a few wood pellets work great too. The cat litter type. I'll make a few of these this weekend. The grandkids will think I'm amazing haha. Great idea and video. Best wishes from South Shields, England.

Yes, a windscreen definitely is a great idea if you're going to use a system like this.
James Bender, I made one of them and it is my favorite go to for my afternoon coffee. I made it from after watching this video, thank you so much.

I like this a lot. Love the videos where you make something useful out of scrap. Might have to make one of these for my Stanley cook kit as a solid fuel alternative to my alcohol stove.
Indeed. It would work quite well for that. Glad you liked it and thanks for watching!
I made your stove and it works! It heated up my tea water in a snap. Much faster than on the Coleman and much smaller to carry. My son found it a bit smelly but then you wouldn’t be burning that inside of the house. Thanks for showing us how to do that!
Thank you for watching and I'm glad that you enjoyed the video!

Another great video and tips,Mr macgyver. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much!
James, this such a great hack! You're awesome and I love the channel! Thank you for all of the great content!
Thank you for watching, glad you liked it!
What a fantastic ilight bulb dea! One suggestion if you have a long nose lighter, a guy from England who was a veteren from the Royal Army, he uses only one tablet and lights these tablets from beneath and this does a better job of burning longer.
I will have to experiment using this new idea of yours, to see if one tablet the way he demonstrated can stay lit longer by lighting from beneath.
I have a can opener that cuts the can lids off without leaving sharp edges, to make a flat fire proof base from a larger juice can in which to place the Strainer Stove over the lid before leaving a lit match beneath to light the tablet in the strainer. Or try a long nosed lighter beneath the stove for safety sake.
Sounds like a good idea. You could definitely light this from beneath using the center hole. Thanks for watching!
Another awesome idea, simple easy, compact and inexpensive. Yet works well and packs small, you have amazing ideas.
Thank you so much!
I enjoyed watching this one repeatedly!
Thanks so much!
One wonders how you came up with such a brilliant idea . Thank You . Respect sent and all the best in 2022 .
I honestly would plan a trip to Ohio to take one of your classes I enjoy watching your videos Enjoy your week
We would love to have you here at the school! Thank you so much for watching the videos.
I made one of these tonite as I watched the video !!!...... I used my starlite alcohol burner in it and it works sweet and left enough clearance for a nice flame! , thanks for the idea !!
Very cool. Thanks for making one and letting us know that the alcohol burner you have fits in it.
Thanks for the tip. Works great and little or no smoke... Easy carry and sit up. Be safe
Thank you for watching, glad you liked the video!
I did this successfully! I wanted to send you a picture, but I don't how. This took six bucks and took four minutes.
Nice, creative idea! Really like it!
Thanks!
That is a great idea . I have been looking at different types of solid fuel stoves and I am sold . Keep up the good work
