- This 2011 Rav 4 has a whine in the Driveline from the rear differential coupler. There was a bulletin and a warranty extension on the problem but the vehicle is beyond the limits.
Great video. My differential was leaking via axle due to the seized breather. And I also had the whining sound. Recently the head gasket began leaking in to cylinder 4 & 6.After 16 yrs of owning this car, always taking care of it, Ive decided enough is enough. Time for a trade in. No more Toyota's for me. Moving on to Mazda.
Cheaper and not too difficult just to replace the main bearing, but if customer is paying I get it.
Got a link for part I need mines don’t can’t find the part
Replaced just bearing on mine.thanks for video.
Where do I buy the bearing go a link ?

Great video, I'm not sure that I can do that!
incorrect towing causes this...we buy a lot of rav4 from auctions and 90 percent of them have this howl..even newer one with low miles..
Yes pretty common problem for sure
I get a whine when tapping off the accelerator. Also a jerk when letting go the accelerator. Changed diff, rear diff bearings, engine and transmission mounts. Nobody can identify the problem. The whine could be from the rear diff but not sure what jerking would be caused by as all mounts have been changed
That's really hard to say without hearing it. Could be wheel bearing, axle support bearing. Try to find someone with chassis ears. That is if its noticeable on a hoist. Are tires all tge same size?
sounds like encounter of the third kind lol spooky noise .
Like that little pump...great idea
Yes I bought a couple off Amazon cheap. Had to add a small piece of tubing with a 90 degree bend.
Is this just a noise issue or can a failed bearing disable the vehicle ?
@johnh7058 eventually the bearing could fail completely and cause other damage, especially if you drive at highway speeds.
My AWD '08 Highlander is whining bad at 35+mph. I suspect it's the transfer case but could it be the rear diff?
Most likely it's the same as this Rav
