Petunia the Rescued Baby Otter Kit

- Meet our newest rescue patient: a 3-week-old otter kit (baby otter) named Petunia! This little otter kit was rescued on Sunday night after being found without its mother. She has been receiving care from Clearwater Marine Aquarium, while we attempt to locate her family. She will be transferred to another otter rehab facility for continued care until she can be released back into the wild.

I hope she's okay. She didn't seem to be in as good of shape as Buddy was. He was more noisey and active. She's more docile. Maybe just sleepy. She did start to become a bit more active.
The one good thing about 2020 is that I learned how adorable otters are 😭😭

hi, I am Mandy. I am blind, and cannot see anything that is happening in the video. Can you please tell me what was going on? like, from the time that they rescued her, to the time that she was being petted by them? What was she doing?
@@MrMandygirl12 Hi, Mandy! Petunia is being bottle fed with a large syringe throughout the video and is stroked and petted in between feedings. Petunia takes the syringe willingly and totally basks in the petting; in fact, she's so comfortable and relaxed, she gets downright sleepy!! The caregiver tries to feed her the rest of what's in the syringe, but Petunia gives a big yawn and turns away. A few more attempts to feed, but Petunia keeps turning her head away, she's had enough! 🤣🤣🤣

Why is she getting sugar water instead of formula? Just curious. She doesn’t seem to like the water.
Baby animals need to be hydrated (fluids), given energy (glucose/sugar) and warmth before they can be fed milk/formula. If they don't get these three things, they can't digest actual food and will starve to death with a stomach full of food because they don't have energy, hydration and warmth.

Let her sleep a bit, before hydrating her again. When she steers away, it is because she is temporarily sated. She'll tell you when she she needs more....make no mistake.
