@@patrickgilmore9125 The yellowish half round plate is a ceramic shelf used to fire ceramic in a kiln. It can resist extreme heat but is also a very good insulator so there is less heat shock when hot things touch it.
I'm not sure how much propane was used but that's a good question. I'll test it some time. The value of the copper depends on what's done with it. Scrapping is one way to go and has standard values by weight. Another option is to make it into something useful or beautiful that could be much more valuable.
The gear is from local stores and Amazon. I wear full leather, a face shield, and a respirator with filters rated for this sort of thing. I dont recall all the prices. Id say around ~$250 for everything. The gloves are for TIG welding because I like the dexterity, but cheaper gloves are available. You're right about the lifter. I designed and built the pouring tongs to be a lifter/tong combo but unfortunately the inner diameter of the furnace is too small. I suppose a smaller crucible size would also work.
@@maverickmeteor right on. Prices vary wildly as does filtration quality so I'd recommend some reviews research if you get to that point. How you liking the devil forge? Worth it to buy? I want one but I'm not sure if it's worth it
It took about 35 minutes from the time I lit the furnace to pouring. This is a small furnace with good insulation. A larger furnace might take longer. I did not track how much propane was used.
You got some nice equipment. But you gotta coat that kaowool. Little fibers are blasted off each firing. Makes me want to go all clay since it fires at a very high temp. And i can find it for free.
New friend here. Nice job on your first pour. Good to see you wearing the proper PPE. Always great to connect with other pourers. Keep at it
Clear heat shield for camera
Just bought a furnace/ crucible kit days ago. Have hundreds of pounds of copper , aluminum, and brass to melt. Thanks for sharing, subbed.
a furnace is a great toy
i build my own
Very cool and I learned something important: creating ingots from scrap! Thank you!
cool melt and safety gear
i subscribed to your channel
i also love meting metal and casting stuff
Proper previous planning prevents painfully piss poor performance. Good job on the melt buddy liked and subbed
Thank you. True, the prep work is important!
Great video- I really want to start melting copper but I don't have easy access to it unfortunately
Nice job on the bar
Nice!
Nice job! Good looking ingot! Mind sharing where the ingot molds w/ handles came from? Thanks, Jim
Thank you. I bought the molds from Amazon. They are 2000g graphite molds from some generic brand. OTOOLWORLD I think? The handles are also removable.
@@maverickmeteor Thank You!!
Just got a 4 kg devil forge this week
nice pour. quik question: what is that 'plate' you set the ingots on?

so how much propane was used to get $6 worth of copper

I like the safety gear, where did you purchase and how much? You need a new lifter, it would be a safety disaster if the crucible sidewall gave way!

Also there's filtered camera lenses that can cut down the ir glare just gotta Google for your specific camera.
I appreciate the tip! If I get enough subs to monetize the channel I'll consider some equipment upgrades :-)

@@joshschneider9766 I like the furnace but I'm not sure I've used it enough yet to offer a useful opinion. So far, so good.
Super Video :-)
Thank you!
I gave you a subscribe. keep up the good work.
Thank you. I'm working on new content whenever I can manage the time.
i like yur nativ unitedstates leather out fit
how long does a melt like that takes and how much propane does it burns?

Thank you for the tip. It's hard to see in the video but the wool is fully coated with hard ceramic.
Скафандр забыл одеть
Ржу не могу. Мне нравится быть в безопасности, когда я работаю. Поэтому я ношу свой скафандр.
