Those pants force the body into that shape, so lots of insecure girls buying it makes it difficult to find other kinds of pants in the market. The same applies to corsets, high heels, makeup, etc. The beauty standards makes girls suffer.
I remember as a kid, I sit that way with one leg on top of another, of course people tell me that I sit like a woman, even though I don't pay attention to the way they sit. I think I sit that way to show that I'm defensive.
