jesuisravi maybe the carbon fiber guitars are the most expensive but the others are not. I think that the Traveler Guitar Mark III escape acoustic electric should most definitely absolutely have been on the list
I own a BT2 since 2014. It came with me on so many trips, and it’s getting better every year. I love it dearly. Could never sell such a good companion.
I have a Bt2 myself. Got it just to learn on better. I have smaller hands than most guitarist out there. I'm trying to use a capo on it. I keep getting buzzing. Sometimes that is. I'm a beginner guitarist. Does it get better with time? And am I not holding down chords hard enough? What do you think? I have a yamaha ac1m. And I feel like the capo works better on there. Just wanted to know if you could give me your opinion.
I've owned multiple Baby Taylors, multiple GS-Mini's, Zager 4/5 Parlor, Journey Instruments Roadtrip RT310, Martin LXM, Martin Dreadnought Jr, and a couple others. As for playability I love the GS-mini and Dread Jr, they are awesome guitars for the price, but for travel where size matters and sound is less important I always grab my Baby Taylor. I never cared for the Little Martin. Sound wise, I love the Dread Jr followed by the GS-Mini. I cant say the Dread Jr or GS-mini are better than the other because they are really much different and both provide me what I want when their differences matter.
Hi Shane, what do you think about the Zager? Is it actually easier to play like they claim? I am new at guitar and was thinking about getting the GS mini but am also curious about Zager due to the ease of play they rave about.
i just bought a Taylor 210. While shopping I was checking out a smaller guitar. I looked and the Martin Little X (or whetever they're called, the Ed Sheeran signature model) and a year old (2016) GS Mini. I couldn't find a Martin Dreadnaught Jr to try... anyway, the GS Mini absolutely blew the others away to MY humble ears. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Even though I bought the Taylor 210, I wanted to add a martin to my stable and thought the travel guitars would do, but after hearing the GS mini, no way. It's gorgeous.
I love my exquisite Composite Acoustics Cargo guitar. Two of its features nobody mentions are its extremely light weight and neck action that reminds me of a top-of-the-line Fender electric. It sounds like a much bigger guitar acoustically, and it's great with an amplifier too. BUT I often lodge in hotels, and I enjoy cruising. To avoid making intrusive music for the people next door when I practice, I pack a compact, solid-body guitar equipped with a battery powered plug-in for ear buds. Though I prefer acoustic performances, experience has taught me the importance of being a quiet guest and a good neighbor. 😊
I ended up with the Seagull Maritime SWS Folk for traveling with. It comes with an amazingly durable case, fits in overhead bins, and plays much better than the Martin or Taylor in my opinion. I actually had purchased the GS Mini, but the neck is very narrow and I didn't like how cramped it felt playing for extended periods. The Seagull, on the other hand, has a wide neck, sounds amazing, is solid wood, has amazing electronics, and plays just beautifully.
GS Mini is the crown achievement of Taylor guitars. I say that because it's a product that represents a composite of great engineering/design that benefits from Taylor's assembly line automation innovations to deliver a unique product at an exceptional price point. You may think "no way does a GS Mini represent the spirit of the Taylor brand better than their iconic 800 series" but it really does.
The way you said about the Gs mini is absolutely perfect. The sound of the guitar is impossibly loud despite of itsmall body! First time I try the guitar a was shocked and cant believe what i was playing on. The sound is great, the neck is smooth and comfortable.
Interesting. I recently bought a Baby Taylor built in 1999 (The NT neck was introduced in January 1999). My guitar has clearly had a hard life and been 'played in' for the last 24 years, but with just a thin shim under the neck, the action is perfect but - most interestingly - the tone is amazing. Nowhere near as 'zingy' as the new instrument demo'd by Tony. It is deep, rounded and suits my needs perfectly.
I was set on buying the Martin Junior but when I picked up the little Taylor GS mini, I was amazed by the quality of this little dread and how great it sounded!
I bought a Yamaha fs800 installed Martin silk and steel strings and brass bridge pins. It's not my best sounding guitar but it travels and at $200 I'm not that attached to it. But what travels best is my home made cigar box guitars. I built one on about 24 hours they cost 20 to 80 bucks and damn are that fun. Only 4 strings but gets alot of attention.
Bought a baby Taylor, looked after it very well, unfortunately the glue on the join by the neck failed. I contacted Taylor directly and was so disappointed when they did not want to assist at all.
Will it be possible for you to make a comparison video between two travel guitars? I am curious about your impressions recommendations and opinions on these two guitars that are there? Journey Instruments OF-310 Furch LJ-10 Little Jane
If you want a travel guitar it has to be carbon fibre, the temperature changes rule out wooden guitars, and the best carbon fibre guitars by far, are Emerald guitars, ( not cheap, but you get what you pay for) they do a travel guitar Emerald X7 which is a real beauty and looks and plays better than any of the other carbon fibre guitars.
I've taken my LX1E on a plane twice now to countries far warmer than where I live. The altitude from the flights and the heat from the countries didn't affect it at all. Really awesome for ACTUAL travelling, not just smaller size!
I have the LXME and had 2 Lx1e’s have tops crack. Love the ME, it’s everything I wanted sound and size wise and it’s durable in all of the weather in the north east.
Martin Backpacker? Washburn Rover? Seems like the two smallest lightest guitars dedicated to travel from two major manufacturers were completely overlooked.
I own a Big Baby Taylor with rosewood back/sides and absolutely love it! GS mini are cool, but the Big Baby just delivers for me..I can't put it down..right out of the box it was perfect.
I have a Sigma Travel Guitar TME+ with Electric System..for me a very good Guitar for Travel and Stage for Country and Ballads...199.- EURO in Germany. Very good Price for this Guitar.
Hmm hey @AcousticLife i have a same guitar on 3:31 but the sound so weird. Can you told me how to fix it? Thx and sorry my english worst (very bad i mind) heheh
Nice, calm and straight forward presentation Tony. I enjoyed it and learned from it. I appreciate you taking the time in putting this together and for posting it. Nice playing as well. Thanks! Steve
Played the gs mini for the first time today after researching for weeks. The playability is a bit overhyped but the sound is amazing for a small body guitar with laminate back and sides. I tried the Eastman equivalent and it's a better guitar. Both good though.
Takamine Mini (made in China / Korea, reasonable, consistent standard), is the same size as makes no difference to the Taylor GS mini (made in Mexico) in both body and length. The Taylor case is simply the best hard padded soft case, if not buying a Mono case. For the record I agree with you about the Taylor GS Mini. Note, I love, really adore, the GS mini like you. BUT the Takamine Mini is very close for less money, I would buy both the GS and the Taka, in fact and the Martin Dread Jr too, for its sound, after a Fender Mexican Baja Tele but that's another story. But come on please, you are not presenting a full picture when deliberately 'blanking,' ignoring the merits of the Takamine mini, which is a brilliant economic offering. Best under saddle electrics to boot.
I personally like the backpacker for what it is. I have been playing 34 years, I can make a first act at Best Buy play. Don’t listen to these people call it a piece of garbage. It’s only garbage if you don’t know how to use it.
Utterly and entirely agree... the Taylor GS Mini is absolutely fantastic. My favorite guitar (and I have many). The Baby Taylor and the Big Baby Taylor both suck incredibly hard (as do the Martin backpacker, the Ibanez DayTripper, and many more). I put a "B-band" pickup in mine. It comes with a great case (tough, handy, road-worthy). I've played living room jams, backyard jams, and bar gigs with just the GS Mini. Can not recommend it highly enough.
+Jason Campbell any martin under a grand should be avoided. Love Martin with all my heart but they really abuse the brand name. Go Seagull or Breedlove
Landon Wolf Thank you for your input. I jumped in and got a Jr Dread and Tony is correct here. Plenty of volume with the right strings and setup. Needs an upgraded nut saddle and bridge but for $300 used, I'm happy.
sound wise it's not the best, but the format is great, the playability is on point too. And the price is a Joke. And she is the only one with the cutaway for easy n confortable access to the highest fret/notes.
The title should be clear in that this list is for acoustic only. If it was for any travel guitar, the best bang for the buck is the LX1e IMO. Plugged in, it sounds tremendous. The GS Mini is HUGE compared to the little martin or the baby taylor. Especially in the thickness of the body. That is not really a travel guitar. The GS mini is more Grand Concert type.
Hi Tony have you tried or done a review on the carbon fibre Emerald X20 ? I have seen a couple of positive reviews, but would value your opinion, thanks, keep up the good work.
Unfortunately, little guitars often come with little necks. It would be useful during your reviews if you noted the nut width. Going one step further, noting the string saving at the saddle is also important. For finger stylists or those with big hands, this is important info. I actually find that wide string spacing at the saddle makes a bigger difference than an extra 1/32" at the nut.
GS mini for sure, my brother has one and he traveled with it really easily and the sound is also amazing for a guitar of this size, worth every dollar ! :))
Melody Ho I am not biased. I have a Marten, but when I played the GS mini I was blown away by how full the sound was. I have a Baby Taylor, I got it because it is smaller than the GS mini and for traveling I needed something as small as I could that was still playable. The Baby Taylor has some intonation problems that drive me bonkers but if you get it at a decent price it will do the job just fine. If I had room for the GS mini I would totally have it. None of the travel Marten's or other guitars I have played can compete with the quality of sound.
I had a Martin Jr. Beautiful guitar but weather change’s really affected it. If it was out of my guitar room that had a humidifier for a few days. The neck changed. Great cough guitar but no way a travel guitar.
I'm shopping for a travel guitar and I appreciate the video. Now that you've reviewed the KLÖS carbon fiber, I"m wondering where that would fit in your list??? Thanks
the back and sides are layered but it doesn't effect the tone much and I believe the back and sides come in rose wood, mahogany and koa and tops are mahogany koa spruce and cedar
Yes thx to mention it, just discovered it few minutes ago, looking for a small but good acoustic guitar. Not specially for travel or gig, just at home, i think it's so much more appealing when the instrument is small and lightweight
Yeah, nice guitars. But if we talk about travel guitars I miss the Martin Backpacker! Sure, it´s a special kind of guitar with its paddle form. But very small and light with an amazing sound for its size! I bought one with steel strings in 2012 and I take it everywhere in all my holydays (most time we´re outdoor!)
This is just my opinion and my experience regarding the Taylor and Martin only. Yes, Taylor GS mini is the best sounding, best playing, and also the most expensive. For example the spruce top with electronics. $650. Being that it is the 7/8" size this helps against the Martin LX1E which is a 3/4 size guitar at $400-$430. The 3/4" Taylor is trash, and the two screws showing on the front neck is simply unattractive. The Martin LX1E sounds amazing, but mine came with the action way to high, and the strings are extremely heavy gauge to help get the beautiful Martin tone. Since I was not into paying for a set up, or playing around with a guitar that needed much set up work, like sanding down the bridge etc etc, and that it is presented with heavy strings, it simply was not for me. With a proper set up, it might be a keeper I'm thinking a cheaper Yamaha or the Mitchell for the take on the road deal, or to simply have a guitar around while laying around. Catch a moment in time.
a better title for this video: the five most expensive travel guitars
I approve this message.
Maybe he can do a follow up video: top five travel guitars I can actually afford.
not taylor tho..just 300 and 500
jesuisravi maybe the carbon fiber guitars are the most expensive but the others are not. I think that the Traveler Guitar Mark III escape acoustic electric should most definitely absolutely have been on the list
And by expensive, you mean better. In reality, the GS Mini (particularly the Koa version) is the best of the bunch.
I expected to see the Alvarez LJ2 here.. such an underrated beauty of an instrument
I've owned multiple Baby Taylors, multiple GS-Mini's, Zager 4/5 Parlor, Journey Instruments Roadtrip RT310, Martin LXM, Martin Dreadnought Jr, and a couple others. Am I the only one who's expecting the Martin LX1/E to be here??
I have the Taylor GS Mini mahogany. You know all the hype surrounding it? Believe it, it's true. Phenomenal guitar.
i just bought a Taylor 210. While shopping I was checking out a smaller guitar. I looked and the Martin Little X (or whetever they're called, the Ed Sheeran signature model) and a year old (2016) GS Mini. I agree. The GS Mini rocks. Totally blows away the Baby Taylor or the Big Baby (both of which suck hard).
It is not a very compact option for travel.
I love my Furch Little Jane. It is my favorite travel guitar that I have ever played. Please give it a shot. 😎
High price 😥😥😥
Carey Goodier whats the price tag on that ?
@@themeloman7 massive and collapsible
I owned GS MINI sound is amazing, second to none.
I got me a GS mini and I can't stop playing it. A wonderful, wonderful guitar.
Furch's Little Jane definitely is the best travel Guitar!
Yes, the best ! I love the concept ans the sound.
I ended up with the Seagull Maritime SWS Folk for traveling with. It comes with an amazingly durable case, fits in overhead bins, and plays much better than the Martin or Taylor in my opinion. I actually had purchased the GS Mini, but the neck is very narrow and I didn't like how cramped it felt playing for extended periods. you got 2 channels?

Just purchased the Baby Taylor BT2. Love it so far. Sounds great. Great quality! Super portable. Comes with soft case!
I just got the Baby Taylor BT1, but wait for it... I got it for $80. Thank you Letgo!
Nashenal Gaming was the what you expected??
tuna tuna it sounds pretty fantastic. $350 fantastic? No. But definitely worth at least 200 in terms of sound
Nashenal Gaming I
Devin Head did you get it second hand? I've never heard of one going for so cheap
It was probably damaged for 80
I was set on buying the Martin Junior but when I picked up the little Taylor GS mini, I was amazed by the quality of this little dread and how great it sounded!
I never bonded with the GSMini I bought. Just sounded you like compared to my Taylor 314. I actually prefer the Martin here.
The GSMini is #1 in my book.
I have had most of these in my hands, and came a way with the Mini GS is the one I walked away with. Awesome .
Bought a baby Taylor, looked after it very well, unfortunately the glue on the join by the neck failed. I contacted Taylor directly and was so disappointed when they did not want to assist at all.
No love for Voyage Air? The VAOM-04 and 06 models are full-sized OMs that fold in half and fit in a custom backpack...best of both worlds.
The Guild Jumbo Junior? Very similar to the GS Mini but cheaper. I think it sounds way better too.
Will it be possible for you to make a comparison video between two travel guitars?
I am curious about your impressions recommendations and opinions on these two guitars that are there?
Journey Instruments OF-310
Furch LJ-10 Little Jane
Well, I am gonna get that lovely Taylor GS mini.
1. Furch guitar - little jane
What about little Jane by Furch compare to gs mini by Taylor ?
If you want a travel guitar it has to be carbon fibre, the temperature changes rule out wooden guitars, and the best carbon fibre guitars by far, are Emerald guitars, ( not cheap, but you get what you pay for) they do a travel guitar Emerald X7 which is a real beauty and looks and plays better than any of the other carbon fibre guitars.
What about the Furch Little Jane?
I have both Martin DJr and GS mini. Unfortunately i prefer DJr due to its superior tone.
Try 1. low end, but fun to play: an Olympia by Tacoma OP-2 (used $60-80)
2, high end a 60's Guild F-20 or M-20 ($1200-$1600)
The Cort Earth Mini and Little Martin LX1/E should be here.
Lawrence Fidel earth Mini by Cort is awesome 😎
Cort earth mini is a brilliant little guitar!
As much as i liked the GS Mini, i opted for the Guild Jr Jumbo... Sounded and played better, looked A LOT better, ans was $200 cheaper
Martin Backpacker? Washburn Rover? Seems like the two smallest lightest guitars dedicated to travel from two major manufacturers were completely overlooked.
Very good demonstration ! And very good playing too! Greetings from Germany !
I own a Big Baby Taylor with rosewood back/sides and absolutely love it! GS mini are cool, but the Big Baby just delivers for me..I can't put it down..right out of the box it was perfect.
I would love to see an update on this video please 🥺
Hey Sir Tony, try the Cort Earth Mini OP its an awesome travel guitar. you should review it
What about the Harley Benton GS-Travel-E Mahogany?
can you do this show with classical guitars? please.. 1/2 size or 3/4 size..
The only one of those I like is the GS mini.
Are the travel guitar necks also smaller? they kinda look like electric guitar necks, like, smaller then regular acoustic necks. (as in tight)?
I have a Taylor GS mini e-koa. It is amazing even though the one I have is a bit in the pricey side
I have a Sigma Travel Guitar TME+ with Electric System..for me a very good Guitar for Travel and Stage for Country and Ballads...199.- EURO in Germany. Very good Price for this Guitar.
I got the Big Baby BBT for my road guitar. It has amazing sound and great for travel.
I've got one too, spruce top. Great little guitar with a really WOW sound.
The Dreadnought Jr. surprised me. The GS Mini surprised me a lot.
Hmm hey @AcousticLife i have a same guitar on 3:31 but the sound so weird. Can you told me how to fix it? Thx and sorry my english worst (very bad i mind) heheh
i use the gs mini as my main acoustic. it sounds incredible.
Were is the Yamaha gl1 gutalele it's smaller than the rest

Washburn rover as well, you can get them for ~$150
Cool tattoo! Lined up perfectly with the martin!
How about yamaha jr2 or apxt2 ?
Hey Tony, thanks for the video.
I noticed you did not classified the Martin backpacker in your top5 list. How do you classify this guitar? thanks
It's a piece of junk IMO. There are much better travel guitars to be had for the money.
Would you rate the Taylor higher in tone value than the Martin?
I'm talking about the GS mini by the way
I personally prefer the Taylor GS Mini over the Martin
+Jason Campbell any martin under a grand should be avoided. Love Martin with all my heart but they really abuse the brand name. Go Seagull or Breedlove
Landon Wolf Thank you for your input. I jumped in and got a Jr Dread and Tony is correct here. Plenty of volume with the right strings and setup. Needs an upgraded nut saddle and bridge but for $300 used, I'm happy.
Jason Campbell wow dude I take that back 300 is a steal! Put some bone in that bad boy!
I bought a Eastman travel guitar. I love it
Your guitar playing is so great!!!!
How about the revolutionary Cort Little CJ that has Fishman Electronics?
any thoughts on the APXT2 yamaha?
sound wise it's not the best, but the format is great, the playability is on point too. And the price is a Joke. And she is the only one with the cutaway for easy n confortable access to the highest fret/notes.
I own one and love it.
How much is that?
Baby Taylor, vs Martin Lx1 ? What about the Yamaha Apxt2?
The title should be clear in that this list is for acoustic only. If it was for any travel guitar, the best bang for the buck is the LX1e IMO. Plugged in, it sounds tremendous. The GS Mini is HUGE compared to the little martin or the baby taylor. Especially in the thickness of the body. That is not really a travel guitar. The GS mini is more Grand Concert type.
I love traveler guitars. I want them all 😍
Which one was best cycling up a mountain?
confused! in the other video of the martin jr vs the g mini, you even say that the martin is better, but on this you prefer the g mini.
Hi Tony have you tried or done a review on the carbon fibre Emerald X20 ? I have seen a couple of positive reviews, but would value your opinion, thanks, keep up the good work.
do you dye your beard diffrent colour to your hair
CD M does he have to brush his beard out of his eyes on a windy day?
30yrpro does he have to wash it with shampoo?
The Carpet doesn’t need to match the drapes, vice and versa
What is your opinion on Orangewood Oliver Jr vs Faith Nomad (Mahoganies) ? Thanks!
Hi Tony, i'm german and don't understand the name of your number 4 guitar?
How about top 5 small child beginning acoustic guitars?!
Why put "big" necks on little guitars? If I want a big neck, I'd certainly want a big guitar to match.
Go to a store and play them its the only way to know what the action is really like and the response to your playing.
Tony, How about the Traveler AG-105EQ? Did you try that one?
I completely agree with number one. But then I am biased as I have a TAC GS Mini.
Which one do you guys prefer, Taylor big baby, GS mini, or baby?
GS mini for sure, my brother has one and he traveled with it really easily and the sound is also amazing for a guitar of this size, worth every dollar ! :))
GS Mini!
rtgrayu
easily the gs mini. just play all of them in a music store, you'd be able to tell after a single stroke on the strings
Great cough guitar but no way a travel guitar.
what about the APXT2 yamaha?
I'm shopping for a travel guitar and I appreciate the video. Now that you've reviewed the KLÖS carbon fiber, I"m wondering where that would fit in your list??? Thanks
What about the Air voyager travel guitar ? It folds ! Got to be the best, I know I have one ! Get in Ireland
Which of these guitars can be left in a hot car for multiple days without worry? I am looking for a guitar to take on a road trip.
cover guitar with thick blankets and leave windows open a crack if that does not cause doord jimmying.
Yamaha Silent Guitar
do the taylor gs mini has tross rod?
You should try TheTool travel guitar.
I read that the TaylorGS mini is actually Rosewood layered on the sides and back. Not solid.
the back and sides are layered but it doesn't effect the tone much and I believe the back and sides come in rose wood, mahogany and koa and tops are mahogany koa spruce and cedar
How about the Cordoba mini M and mini O?
Squier Mini Strat and an Orange Micro Terror.
Why is the Furch Little Jane not on the list?
I just don't think many people in the US have ever heard of Furch or Stone
got cut off, Furch and Stonebridge are high end guitars I would love anyone of them
Yes thx to mention it, just discovered it few minutes ago, looking for a small but good acoustic guitar. Not specially for travel or gig, just at home, i think it's so much more appealing when the instrument is small and lightweight
Very nicely done review, thanks
Which other mini guitars did you try? Thanks
There have been quite a few in fact all of the ones I have tried are on youtube as separate reviews :-)
Hey Tony, What is your favorite tone wood for the GS Mini?
please which
I have the rosewood model with electronics, it's amazing!
No such thing as tone wood. It's how it's built. CARBON FIBER is AMAZING...ZERO WOOD!
Groovy Music Lessons it doesn't really matter for an electric guitar, but for acoustic it makes a difference. The top is the most important.
Again, nope.....but keep on believing what you will. I came to try to help. I did my part. Later.
Guild just announced the Jumbo Jr at Summer Namm, can't wait for you to review that one!
Hey Tony , Which one Do You Think Is Better fender paramount 3 (the one with the cutaway) or Taylor Gs Mini or Martin DreadNought Junior
Yeah, nice guitars. But if we talk about travel guitars I miss the Martin Backpacker! Sure, it´s a special kind of guitar with its paddle form. But very small and light with an amazing sound for its size! I bought one with steel strings in 2012 and I take it everywhere in all my holydays (most time we´re outdoor!)
what is the song he's playing on the baby Taylors?

With a proper set up, it might be a keeper
I'm thinking a cheaper Yamaha or the Mitchell for the take on the road deal, or to simply have a guitar around while laying around. Catch a moment in time.
Good review!!
