It's actually insane that two people managed to turn their life around completely after leaving jail. Usually people who leave jail/prison (prison I think) , won't come back as better people instead better criminals. Huge respect!
I worked with a guy who did time in San Quentin but he was determined NOT to go back. He also had a very supportive family which I think really helped him too. I no longer work there but I hope he is still doing well.

I used to work at target and part of the closing routine was to triple check every aisle to make sure there were no guests left inside the store. I used to think it was to make sure nobody was confused/lost or just didn’t know we were closing, but now I realize it’s also to prevent idiots like these
7 years for simple trespassing is fucking insane. I think that's the most unjustified punishment on this list. I could see target banning them, or community service or something, but over half a decade of your life ripped away....for staying inside past closing and leaving at 3AM? punishment doesn't fit the crime, but it also isn't shocking. There is a particular issue in the American Justice System that punishes certain people far more harshly than another person for the same exact crimes.
Prosecutors won’t charge criminals for actually stealing things from stores in broad daylight right in front of security guards, but they will charge these two with felonies. and even a corrupt politicians that steal hundred thousands or millions is just sentence for 4+ years. People that actually steal or destroy other people's property or injure people should be charged with felonies. Homelessness is often far from choice. I would not be surprised if the daughter has tried but nothing has worked. For example I have a cousin who we can’t keep off the streets. There are moments of sobriety or at least staying with family but he always disappears sooner rather then later. The world has ignored it’s biggest threat for so long and now we are losing that war. That is the one on mental health.

In Denmark prison time is alot about getting resocialized. So in prison in Denmark you have mobile phone, own tv, you are allowed to have playstation, nintendo, x-box or so in your cellroom. If you are school bound you are allowed to have own laptop. As have been to prison myself I had my laptop with me and I actually made a business while there. I made copies of porn movies and sold them to other inmates, actually made me having more money when released then when I was incarcerated.

He had felony charges which destroyed his career. At some point he can *try* to get his charges dropped (he had weed oil or something), but it’s going to be HARD. I think you have to wait at least 5 years in the first place

And then you have an a**hole cop in San Antonio, Texas giving a homeless man a sandwich with literal sh*t in it only getting a slap on the wrist before going and getting hired at another law enforcement agency. It's really funny actually. Because it's a win or lose when doing that stuff. If you fake it and then get arrested, it's revealed that you faked it and your channel is down the drain. If you don't fake it you may still get arrested, but then there's controversey over if you faked it or not. And THEN there's the, no consequences whatsoever and got away with it people.
I did 1 year in the county and just got out this past September over a stupid mistake that could have been easily avoided. I was in the Army, had a nice job with a reputable bank and was in school online to get my business degree, all of that changed the moment I became a convicted felon. It’s been 2 months and I’m still rebuilding what I lost but after much reflection, I’m starting to understand what’s truly important in life and that’s my daughter. She was born 4 months before I got released and she is my world. I felt like a monster because of my actions but when she looks at me, I feel like I’m wearing a cape, it’s a joy I really can’t explain with words. I say all of this to say… We’re human. Mistakes will be made and sometimes we will lose much when it happens but it’s never to late to stop, reflect, learn and move forward. I hope whoever’s reading this has a blessed day.

Larry Lawton definitely deserves to be on this list, very similar story to Jens or Wes Watson except he served 12 years and the Reality Check program he created is extremely valuable to keeping kids away from crime.

Maybe, it's not always that easy though. That man could be abusive, addicted to drugs, or anything else. Some people are not willing to receive help, and some have exhausted any available option.
For those wondering, the reason why she got a year and a day instead of just a flat year, because when you get a year or less you go to jail, if you get anything more than a year, even if it's by a single day, you go to prison, which in the eyes of some means the same, but in practice is far from it.
Even more important: When getting a federal sentence of one year or less, an early release is not possible, 1 year and 1 day means you basically only serve a few months before getting released.

As someone who's spent 5 plus years in various jails and finally prison I can say that it's a shame that the resources made available to me in prison after a thorough evaluation in processing that's a month long is nowhere to be found in jails and not in all prison systems.

In Denmark prison time is alot about getting resocialized. So in prison in Denmark you have mobile phone, own tv, you are allowed to have playstation, nintendo, x-box or so in your cellroom. If you are school bound you are allowed to have own laptop. As have been to prison myself I had my laptop with me and I actually made a business while there. I made copies of porn movies and sold them to other inmates, actually made me having more money when released then when I was incarcerated.

It's really funny actually. Because it's a win or lose when doing that stuff. If you fake it and then get arrested, it's revealed that you faked it and your channel is down the drain. If you don't fake it you may still get arrested, but then there's controversey over if you faked it or not. And THEN there's the, no consequences whatsoever and got away with it people.

I did 1 year in the county and just got out this past September over a stupid mistake that could have been easily avoided. I was in the Army, had a nice job with a reputable bank and was in school online to get my business degree, all of that changed the moment I became a convicted felon. It’s been 2 months and I’m still rebuilding what I lost but after much reflection, I’m starting to understand what’s truly important in life and that’s my daughter. She was born 4 months before I got released and she is my world. I felt like a monster because of my actions but when she looks at me, I feel like I’m wearing a cape, it’s a joy I really can’t explain with words. I say all of this to say… We’re human. Mistakes will be made and sometimes we will lose much when it happens but it’s never to late to stop, reflect, learn and move forward. I hope whoever’s reading this has a blessed day.

For those wondering, the reason why she got a year and a day instead of just a flat year, because when you get a year or less you go to jail, if you get anything more than a year, even if it's by a single day, you go to prison, which in the eyes of some means the same, but in practice is far from it.
Even more important: When getting a federal sentence of one year or less, an early release is not possible, 1 year and 1 day means you basically only serve a few months before getting released.

As someone who's spent 5 plus years in various jails and finally prison I can say that it's a shame that the resources made available to me in prison after a thorough evaluation in processing that's a month long is nowhere to be found in jails and not in all prison systems.
