Your playing is incredibly clean, fluent and so well done. I’m so impressed by the way in which you serve the song, perfectly accenting each section and how every note has a beautiful purpose in the song. I really love watching you play
@@andrew_marshall Playing "basic" is the hardest, not everyone is that educated enough to serve the music instead of themselves. Awesome job man, massive fan here!
I just have to tell you Andrew, I'm 63 and aside from Billie Eilish who is my favorite artist of this era, 60s and 70s classic rock is my favorite genre, and you are by far one of the most underrated drummers I have ever seen. You could go head to head with the best of them. You are not just a pop music type drummer, you are as hard core as they come. You could play for the Stones, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, etc. Billie is so lucky to have you, and of course you are extremely lucky as well. You are incredible!
Admiring not only the patch changes so you can hit the same pad for different sounds but also the mono then stereo panning that goes along with them! Learning from you man!
Not a fan of her music, but there's no denying that Billie Eilish is a great musician and song-writer. Sure, she writes with tugs from the producers but she writes most of what you're hearing. Incredible drumming as well. LOVE the little ghost notes from the e-drums. Adds a really nice touch. That snare is FAT too.
Cara, que som incrível. Meus parabéns. Eu curti demais. Cada detalhe, a afinação... incrível. E a forma que usa a bateria eletrônica ... nossa, sensacional 👏🏾❤️
Hey Andrew! First: amazing Drummer! That's exactly how I love "Pop Drumming" in a musically way. There are so many details and a lot of feelings, just for the music, not for your ego our only for your skills! Just perfect. Thank you! A question: How did you produce the V-Drum, that you hit just one pad for 4(?) different notes (the analogue tom)? I'm clear with the rim shot and the pad, but 4 notes? I'm a bit confused. :) Thanks for response!!! Stay healthy and of course: Come back on stage as soon as possible! THANK YOU!
Appreciate the kind words! The 4 notes are achieved using Ableton's chain selector feature. The chain selector is automated to put different samples on the pad at different times, locked to the click track.
Thank you,@@andrew_marshall for this very quick and informative response and your really sensitive drumming! I hope you guys can go back on stage soon and continue your tour. Stay safe and sound. All the best to you and also to Finneas & Billie! Thanks again. Kind regards. Christian
Man I love this billie song it's my favorite of her You play very beautiful and those cymbals sound incredible, which ones did you use to play this song?
I mean I feel like most drummers could. This is REAL simple stuff, not to mention when you're playing live there are a million other things you need to be on top of. Playing the parts should be auto pilot
Hi Andrew! I have a question -for you and Drew-, the audience that we hear in your videos are captured by ambient microphones or is it the audience noise that filters into the microphones they have on stage like Overheads and Billie's microphone?
Thanks for watching! There are ambient mics for the in-ears but I doubt they’re being used at FOH. Pretty sure the crowd noise is mostly from the stage mics.
Incredible! Thanks to you too 🙌🏾 it's crazy listening to the audience in the mix, it's a big challenge for the foh engineer, I like listening to the audience, very powerful 🤟🏾
Amazing! I analyzed the drums of this song for my audio engineering class. This video was so helpful and you did so great. I would love to know what types of microphones are used here?
In this video I was using Zildjian K 15" Sweet Hats and a 22" K Light ride. These days I use Istanbul Agop 15" Traditional Light hats and a 24" Traditional Dark ride.
Hey man! My only question is why do you automate the pad changes instead of just putting the sounds that are problematic to play live on a backing track if you're already stuck to the grid by the automation? I recently started use electronics and backing tracks on my gig and I'm trying to decide on the best way to approach different things and I feel like my natural response is to put things on the track so I was just curious what got you to the point of automating the midi signal instead. Killer performance btw your timing and musicality is solid!
Thanks for the kind words! Those decisions are on a case-by-case basis; I do actually leave things in the tracks all the time that I'd rather not play but in this case I felt like it would be cool musically to play that part. I feel that if I can play more things live, that helps the music breathe and have a human feel rather than just sounding like a bunch of tracks. Different approaches will work for different bands and artists--some artists might want their band to play more live instrumentation rather than replicating the studio sounds and that's cool too.
This is really sick dude - I find it so fascinating the drum parts you've created around such a heavily produced track! Thanks for sharing. What crash cymbal are running on the left?
When i was a teenager i thought it would look so cool to play the drums wearing a gentex helicopter helmet. I even bought one at some point. And replaced the earphones in it.
Now we just need a finn cam
Yesssssssss
YES YES YES YESSSS
How about we make this about the drummer 😉

What is that transparent barrier which is in front of him?
It's a drum shield. It keeps bleed from the cymbals and drums out of the vocal mic.
