It still amazes me to think that these rocks once looked the way the non-hornfel rocks in the other cutting did. And it really becomes evident in the footage immediately following the transition at 11:47. Truly astonishing stuff. These rocks are literally baked like a pie. The layers turning ductile, and then joining together in the process. The lines remind me of a zebra at 13:23

Every new episode I see from Australia, the more I realize just how unique the Geology and it's many Processes truly are. Just when we think we finally have it all figured out, something so unique leaves us scratching our heads in wonder.
Australia has some of the oldest and rarest minerals. Some land formations are billions of years old. Road-cuts are Geology Labs where truly remarkable discoveries are made every day. How it all fits together will take lifetimes to understand and figure out.
Thank you for your dedication and for sharing with the rest of us your amazing and beautiful country. If it this spectacular in a video, to witness it in person would be forever memorable. Definitely putting Australia on the Bucket List.

I totally concur with you! I spent 30 years prospecting and surveying in outback South Australia until an accident crippled me, but I am still fascinated by rocks and minerals another 30 years later ! Thanks for bringing this geology to me on my screen, as I an no longer able to get out and about as I would like to, to see it for myself. I hope you can eventually do some videos on the Gawler, Musgrave or Flinders Ranges some time, to take me back to the places that I love! Thanks again!

Very good explanation. I would presume that is southern Pyrenees, maybe the edge of the western district. Maybe Beaufort.
Our farm is on the Wimmera river in more central Pyrenees. We have a lot of rocks and I'm always amazed at the variation in very short distances.
The road cuttings are a great spot to look at the soil type and gauge the productivity of the adjacent farm land.

I grew up in one of, what must be the most boring geological areas in the world, Western Pennsylvania. I spent days upon days searching the train track ballast for interesting specimens since they sourced the ballast from glorious New England. Too bad my parent's threw away all of those "dirty rocks". The fist sized crystal clear calcite crystals alone make me want to weep.

This is amazing, you have almost convinced me that Australia actually exists, with rocks and everything... LOL Wonderful Breakfast in the Pyrenees... Questions: the quartz that is squeezed into places, it is not pure silica, a chemist will tell you that quartz is a pure crystalline form of silica. But that which you (geologists) call quartz, has other things: something white and of course some Iron for the yellows. What is the white stuff, calcium oxide?, water?, aluminum feldspar? is it largely amorphous,in crystalline structure?

I need information about a heavy black rock i found and i have tried to get information from museum Vic and Australia but they both say there bussy and can't help. I have also tried Facebook but that was worse. Can you suggest any place i can go to get this rock identifed, because I have even tried shops that sell crystals and they were no help.
The rock keeps looking at me, asking who am i, but i keep having to tell it i don't know and its creeping me out.
