My friend Pat Hughes rolled his New 1976 Chevy Square Body C10 4X4 back in the day and had it towed to his home. Rather than repair it, the Ins Co wrote it off. After receiving his claim money, less the salvage cost of the Chevy, he fitted a 1962 GMC Cab, Front Clip and Box to the '76 chassis. The build process was much like yours. Rat Rods were not a thing back then. The end product was a solid and reliable daily driver he used for twenty years. Pat's first build in high school was a V W dune buggy with a plywood body that mimicked the VW Thing. Watching your build reminded me of Pat. Thanks for sharing your time and resources 👍

Hey Div, I think you have to deduct for the fun factor!:) The other day I was at the gas ( petrol) station and a nice younger man commented on my 64. As a early teenager he had learned to drive stick on a similar truck. He commented on how well I'd taken care of this one. I guess I was successful in preserving the originality of the truck during the build but it made me think how most people can't see the hundreds of hours of work to keep it looking like I hadn't worked hundreds of hours!? Like an old friend of mine once said, " it's like pissing yourself in a blue suit! It gives you a warm feeling but nobody notices". I really enjoy my time in the shed and even more driving the results of my efforts:) Keep up the great videos! I always pick up helpful tips!:)

My thoughts : Cool ride, fun building it, fun driving it and most of all the smile it puts on people’s faces when they see it. And you are right no worries scratching it or letting other people sit in it and take pictures with their kids at car shows. And yes Rat Rods are one of a kind you will never see other exactly like the one you have. When I take mine to a car show and park next to an expensive car the owner will most of the time move their car to other spot. Then after the show I see the same guy put his treasure in a trailer and drive off. I drive mine home and bring smiles to people faces all the way home.😊

Agree with everything you mentioned. I didn’t build my truck. A friend did the mechanical work for me. I’m finishing all the cosmetics myself. I’ll have a little of 20k into it when I finish, but that’s not a lot compared to most the other vehicles I see at shows & my truck gets more attention than the others, because it’s one of a kind, very unique. I love driving it and I’m not afraid to scratch it or get it dirty. I’ve had the most fun driving it than any other vehicle.

Thanks for the cost breakdown ! In reality , that is very little to spend when it comes to an enjoyable hobby. Here in the states that is very little to spend considering some of the hobbies people have. Whether it's fishing or hunting or golf or many others you would care to name. Of course the full shiny vehicle restorations will far exceed that and will not be near as much fun. One cannot and should not try to put a price on one's time when it comes to enjoyment (even if that enjoyment is frustrating in parts of the project) Very , educational , entertaining and inspiring.
