Throughout American history, there have been many proposed states. But not all of them were admitted. In this video we'll go over the history of 6 wannabe states that didn't make the cut: Charlotina, Transylvania (without vampires), Franklin, Adelsversin, Deseret, and Texlahoma. Hope you enjoy!

The very eldest of "Hill Country" Texans still speak a German dialect as their first language. I had a European History teacher in 2006 whose grandmother hardly spoke English at all, even though both she and her parents had been born and raised in Texas.

Although the language is sadly dying out, the culture has never been better. Texas German and Czech festivals, activities, food, and heritage can be found throughout the Hill Country still and I think it’ll only get stronger in those areas as the language continues to die out. Truly one of the greatest mistakes in US history trying to wash out all German-ness during the world wars as a reactionary policy…but it’s nothing new and I guess we still haven’t learned.

Honestly if there wasn't so much misplaced duslike and mistrust of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints then Brigham Young and the early saints would have been remembered as some of the greatest settlers in U.S. history. They made settlements from Canada to Mexico and California to Colorado and even Hawaii. Would have been interesting if Deseret had happened. IMO of course.
Very interesting video. I had never heard of many of these.

Your map of the 13 original colonies shows 15. Maine (blue on the map) was part of Mass (green). Vermont was not a colony nor was it one of the original 13 states.

There is something about the German culture that mixes well with the Native mind. I have seen very few if any writing that even question anything other than peaceful and accommodating relationships thusly between the red man nor the Bavaria German. I’m both. Lol

It is weird, however, Maine was actually part of Massachusetts at the earliest time. Mass had to give it independence as part of one of the many compromises that were done to halt slavery.

    0:03 map is off
Vermont was not one of the 13 original colonies, it later broke off of new York.
Maine originally was also part of Massachusetts untils w820s.

Re Franklin, you should mention that the reason it needed a 2/3rds majority to become a state was because the U.S. was still operating under the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution only requires a majority (in both Houses of Congess).

I live in what would be Transylvania, in the city that is in fact called Louisville. (Imagine running a blood bank here if we were in the state of Transylvania!).... There is a Transylvania University 70 miles east of here in Lexington, Ky. Oddly, however, Lexington is not within the boundaries proposed for the state of Transylvania. Go figure.

I urge everyone to keep DC from becoming a state.Arlington was a part of DC until it was retroceded to Virginia in 1854.James Kilpatrick suggested doing the same thing with the residential areas .Take the Federal area, make it a ghost city with no actual residenti.Call the new section of Maryland Georgetown. They would have a strong voice in Maryland's policies,Maryland would gain a seat in the House of Representatives.

How are commonwealths different from states?

    • @sion8
      @sion8 Год назад

Ah, if you mean the territorial commonwealths (Puerto Rico🇵🇷 and the Northern Mariana Islands🇲🇵), quite a lot actually! But, in reality they are still just territories with the official name of “Commonwealth of…”. Puerto Rico has some things other U.S. territories don't like their federal court not being considered territorial, meaning the judges server for life like any other federal court instead of a given number of years, not even 🇲🇵 gets this. Among other things that mostly affect 🇵🇷 more than the others.
While, states with the official name of commonwealth? There's no difference! It just means a few states decided their official name should be “Commonwealth of…” because they were republican instead of monarchies.

Interesting stuff! One error stands in need of correcting. There is not, nor has there ever been, a "Mormon Church" The name was attached to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a nickname. Admittedly, "Mormon" is easier to both say and write. It is also a convenient way for detractors to avoid associating the church with Jesus Christ or Christianity.

First of all get your facts straight. There were only twelve colonies in the United States that broke away from England. Weeks before they verified that u.s. colonies were going to become a separate nation, they developed the colony of Delaware. Making it 13 which satisfied the Freemasons because that's a very critical number to the Freemasons and stated that they started with 13 states. There were never 13 colonies. The war was basically over the colonies wanted to secede from the British. And the British didn't want them to, but they seceded anyway and ended up winning the argument over the issue.

Puerto Rico will never be a state and it never should. Puerto Rico is a Latin American island nation with its own history, culture and language. Statehood into the US would be detrimental to both the US and PR financially, culturally and politically. And the US really doesn't want Puerto Rico because it wouldn't be beneficial to either party because Puerto Rico would most likely be a swing state, plus the island is massively in debt, totally corrupt, and has terrible infrastructure. I'm Puerto Rican and I also don't want statehood, most of us dont, don't belive those BS referendums setup by the corrupt statehood party PNP, they only put those up just to bring more people out to vote for there candidates and get them elected.
