I actually was so star-eyed when I saw _Flipendo_ in Hogwarts Legacy. The same goes for _Glacius_ (this one really surprised me, considering I only knew glacius being used only in the PoA gamecube video game), _Reparo_ and _Depulso_ so many oldies from the gamecube/old pc
Ever since I first played Philosopher's Stone on PC, whenever Harry cast Flipendo, I would occasionally hear 'NINTENDO!' instead. I still do, actually.
I remember when i was in school and me and my friends will get our pencils and pretend it was wands that we'd use to cast the game spells at each other... flipendo is very nostalgic to me.
I can actually see this one returning in Hogwarts Legacy, or at least a very similar spell, since it doesn't really cause harm it could be used as a defensive spell to push back enemies that get too close, or even to use the environment to your favor and cause damage
Oh man this took me down memory lane! I remember how annoyed I would get each time Harry yelled out the spell. Not that the spell was annoying but every cast became too much..
My definition of canon is what the fans of a work considered to be true. The problem with anything that the author writes, is that JK is comically bad at world building. Also, things like the cursed child shouldn’t be considered canon.
In the early days, I actually think she was really good at it. Since the original series finished though...it's been a bit of a mess. Even the FB films, which she wrote, seem to play it fast and loose with some already established pieces of canon (like McGonagall's age, for example). And yeah...Cursed Child was a mess. Then again, she wasn't the main writer for that, but apparently does consider it canon 🤦🏻♂️
It's so interesting to see how this spell came into use. The first time I heard it was in Hogwarts mystery and I was confused about this spell and thought maybe I just missed it.
I'd love to see Flipendo again in Hogwarts Legacy, apparently they've already brought Depulso back, as a dueling spell nonetheless, so why not have our cake and eat it too ?
Flipendo was in all versions of HP, not just on PC. (Strangely, the PC version of HP3 changed it to Depulso, and it was really confusing to us PC players back in the day). Knowing that JKR provided them with that information makes it more sense why all the games used it. Flipendo also appears in Cursed Child, which JKR herself considers canon, but I'm pretty sure she wasn't involved in the writing.
There's one problem in Chamber of Secrets, when Harry & Draco duel, Harry said, "Rictusempra" and pushed Draco far, it's obviously wrong when that spell is meant for tickling.
If this spell is more at home for the games, Hogwarts Legacy certainly ought to include it. Wigenweld potions are confirmed so I don’t see why Flipendo won’t be included.
@@DreadKyller I trust the team to go that extra mile for longtime Potter gamers. It'd feel quite silly not to include it. Very least a post launch add-in if the fan request was high enough.
fascinating, and cool to see you doing different kinds of videos but sticking to the wizarding world, i was thinking a video about what kinds of foods/treats from the series can possibly expect will be in Hogwarts Legacy?
I've finished the CoS LPs for the console version. They're live here on the channel. If you're meaning the PC version, I started it on a livestream. Not sure if I'll get back to it, but I'd like to at some point.
@@RetroRaconteur Yes I was referring to the pc version on livestream. I’m sure that game can be tough to get running so I understand if it’s one and done haha! Keep grinding retro!
@@RetroRaconteur kind of a miss, they asked for anything between Chamber of Secrets and Deathly Hallows, and that article has only the link to the Philosopher’s Stone. Also the article itself has some unnecessery points in the instruction, as well as download link from a website which was confirmed to share some broken links. But ye, if they want to play these games, the only options are buying used CDs, or pirate them
If it came from the person that made it it’s canon lol. We as individual fans can choose to acknowledge certain things or not yes, but that’s irrelevant. If the creator gives new information then that’s what it is. Not really all that subjective at all.
Canon is the official continuity of any given story. Whether it comes from the original writers or not is irrelevant. Take the Bible, for example: it doesn't have a single author but rather many. The Old Testament came from oral (spoken) tradition among several different people that would be compiled into a huge scroll of parchment. And the New Testament was written thousands of years later. Part of the Old Testament is considered canonical to the Bible, but its original authors were not alive anymore. They didn't write the New Testament.
Moreover we cannot consider everything J.K says as canon, since many of the statements she made about the Harry Potter franchise after the books directly or indirectly contradicts previous statemens from the books.
@@machop172 I don't think it will be a main spell we use, but I definitely think it makes a cameo. Maybe we hear some random first years practicing it in a corridor or something
Flipendo was indeed used for the first three games. However this was as far as I'm aware only on one platform, the game boy. The console game never had it and the pc version replaced it with depulso in prisonner of Azkaban. Depulso was as far as I remember used in several games after though.
I honestly hope they include Flipendo,I mean they do have Depulso but that's a banishing charm where as Flipendo's a jinx I'd actually prefer to use Flipendo than stupefy because of how overused stupefy was in the franchise, well the movies at least. Hogwarts Mystery is unplayable without a modded apk for unlimited energy. The level of greed in their microtransactions is next level.
.
thats facts
Interesting. I haven't played it lately, but had heard it's actually much improved on that front.
@@RetroRaconteur they do still ask for microtransactions a lot, but now it's somewhat playable without a modded apk
Its playable but it could take shit ton of time to finish it. Like up to a year if you take more time and do a lot of grinding.

Flipendo was said so much that I started to hear Nintendo! by the end of the opening.
I am the only person I know who still references this

Flipendo pretty much disappeared after PoA, since it still existed on the PS2/XBOX/GC versions. Then Depulso and Stupefy succeeded it in OoTP.
Good info there, wario! And yep, I mention the Cursed Child bit around 6:40
I wonder if J. K. Rowling knows that Flipendo is the best and most popular spell amongst the fans.
Here after Hogwarts Legacy dropped, and I found some Flippendo references. There’s an NPC dialogue about a maniac casting Flippendo on a cow 😂😂😂
And a trophy for it too! 🤣
My dad says it to this day and he didn’t even play it lol he just heard my brother and I playing it so often

Fliiiiiiipendo!
Later on they did introduce Depulso to replace Flipendo, i believe?
They’re two different spells.
Depulso actually pushes and sends objects away while Accio brings them towards you
Yeah, I believe the PC version of PoA was the first to start using Depulso instead.
Floor do was actually replaced by Depulso in the Prisoner of Azkaban; the PC version at least anyway.
