I recently purchased a 1971 14hp castiron briggs and stratton engine nos. It's never had oil in it or any run time was damaged a little during shipping Nothing that can't be fixed had to pull the carburetor off the oil foam air filter fell apart pulled the oil pan off to switch the oil drain to fit my allis chalmers b10 and pulled the head to make sure no rust was in the cylinder, zero surface rust anywhere. Just something you don't see every day
@@willyck948 it has some heavy grooving in the cylinder wall. I suspect it will need to be bored. I have taken it doen to the short block. Thanks for the videos. You and Zippo are comimg in handy for reference men. Thank you!
I've got a 16 hp that has a starter/generator that looks a lot like that one...it runs great..takes 2 turns to start..it was on a '66 Craftsman garden tractor..I gave $10 for it in '88 I changed it from oil bath to round paper filter..runs much better..the one you have will start easy if you get the points right. I've had maybe 5 good engines like these..I used to have one on my air compressor lol..I'm thinking about using mine on a welder or something
12-16hp are all the same different pistons. 10hp has a shorter stroke I'm pretty sure they have same valve train and bolt on parts they're good engines I have a re-bored 16hp was in my b1 sold it and put the 16hp into the 64 landlord
NICE! I bet she has a nice 5,000 (5 KW) gen head.Much more simple than the carbs w auto choke and more springs an links than whats on the space shuttle.
I love the camaraderie of ppl loving their hobby and glad when someone in the circle picks up a nice piece. When I say "They don't make'em like they used to, I mean it.."

Well just bought another nos castiron briggs engine. Looks like this one. Has a few differences but pretty close
@@jamesm699 earlier style engines were 23 series about 9hp
@@willyck948 the new one I bought today is a 1990 it don't even have the option for point it's got electronic ignition
just picked one up today for 50 bucks! Feels like it may have low compression. It will be my sawmill power unit!
They're tough engines so long as the cylinder is in good shape your engine may only need some valve maintenance.

@@BlackFlagHomestead Your welcome👍
Got a motor similar to that on a 1970 3310V
yup simplicity 3310v did have same engine just different paint scheme
Those engines are fun. I like to show my buddies how ridiculously low I can get it to idle because of that heavy ass flywheel on them hahaha
WOW! That is pretty interesting, I don't think I have ever seen a cast iron briggs of that size made later than the mid 70s. Very interesting!
Great deal great engine. I have a scuba compressor with a 5hp same engine mine is also brand new. 5,000 cost now.

Nice find I love the old Briggs!
Sweet deal for no more than you handed them Willy! The generator head alone was worth the $$. Cheers my Friend! Zip~
