I’ve never even thought about this - imagine periodically passing out when you think you’re about to die and then waking up miraculously alive with a dead demon nearby, but with nothing nearby that you think could’ve possibly killed that demon and saved you. That’s actually terrifying 😅😅
I agree; it seems a combination of things. He may have been trained, but his personality seems overall timid & very unsure of himself, so places his trust in others. His fright leaves him semi-conscious where seemingly his overwhelming panicked subsides, leaving only his objective training as a demon slayer. However, if his last conscious memory is fear, leaving a memory gap.... It would be hard to find experiences to base success, so difficulty in building confidence in himself (despite have blind confidence in others). With no starting point, he won't seem to develop from a whiny kid. Just having others around while he survives is enough to make Zenitsu believe in them because he has no memory of his fights or how to overcome his fear. Key factors in Zenitsu's performance anxiety.
In a show filled with high-octane and gorgeous fights, Zenitsu's stand to protect Nezuko is one of my favourite moments. Scaredy cat as he may be, he never thought of abandoning Shoichi (the kid) and then stood his ground for Tanjiro's sake. Courage isn't the absence of fear, but the willingness to go on/hold fast despite the presence of it. Amazing reaction as always!
I find it fascinating how you flipped on the Zenitsu front so fast!!! and in the same epidode, remain adamant about disliking Inosuke. 😂😂😂 KNY is really good at giving characters you need to see a few (several) times to even "maybe* like. 😂😂 it's amazing in that regard.
even though boar head guy is really violent, there's nothing more natural than a demon slayer wanting to kill a demon. boar head guy doesn't know any of them. and to him, that "thing" in the box is a human eating demon. a threat. something that should be killed, no matter what, without exception. and some guy that calls himself a demon slayer, protecting that "thing". i get that you guys are angry. i was too on the first watch. because you love nezuko and zenitsu's loyalty but boar head's behaviour is completely normal actually, even though he attacks a person.
This episode was very much a turning point for me with Zenitsu. The reveal that he's known the whole time and just was going to wait for an appropriate time to ask about it and hear Tanjiro out, even though he's terrified of what's in that box lol he's a sweet kid, just scared out of his mind, kind of literally cause he passes out 😂 Also I always tear up in that scene because of Tanjiro getting the brief flashback to seeing Nezuko protecting Rokuta when he found them. Him equating that with what Zenitsu is doing is too much for me, I just want to cry 😭 all of that and it's totally understandable that he was flying off the handle at the end there, I would be too lol
Sarah's crow impersonation was hilarious 😂 loved the first date story as well, can definitely imagine that. Adam being sick and Sarah still making the most of her time and going on the rides on her own 😂 Zenitsu has always been my favourite character, yeah he was annoying at the start but I think it probably was a bigger issue for them than most anime watches because him being like that is not an uncommon trope in anime and so I guess we're a bit desensitised or more forgiving of him at the beginning in general. He became my favourite character after he defeated that Demon while he was sleeping but yes this episode definitely sealed the deal for me. Then it just gets better from here 😁
Zenitsu is actually still semi conscious when he's fighting, so it's still all him fighting, all his characteristics and personality, just think of it as if he's awake but with all of his self doubt being removed from himself through other means

And it takes a lot to make me angry. But you really don't want to do it. I won't hit you, I won't even yell. But I will be disappointed in you, and I will never forgive you. Somehow, that hurts more.
ZENITSU THE GOAT! He might not be the best character, but that is my ride or die right there. side note: I believe they were given 7 days to finish their mission to go up the mountain, but there was nothing about them not being able to clear it before the 7 days ended. I didn't read the manga so I'm entirely sure, but I think it was a "mistranslation" in the anime.
Sometimes I do not understand people who thought Zenitsu was annoying I think he is more relatable than anyone in this show He is scared because it is a life and death situation and his flight mode is on which is totally valid And he doesn't even know that he is capable. All he knows is that when he is conscious in these situations a demon is dead without any explanation Any normal human being would be scared and prefer not to be near any place related to demon His loyalty gives his plus points but his fears makes him more of a human being It validates anyone who has the potential but they are not aware of it and prefer to play it safe in their life Sorry for the long comment Love your reaction ❤❤
I think it's because most people think like Tanjiro with his first impression with Zenitsu. Just like Tanjiro (and Adam and Sarah), we were conditioned to think that people who did dangerous job, like agreeing to be a demon slayer, do it out of their willingness and total consent. So it's like, if you want to do it, do it, don't whine about it if you chose it. What people don't always understand is that not all people taking test/doing something out of their free will. Zenitsu was totally not willingly took the exam, but since he's a people pleasure and loyalist--and I assume his master also threaten him in some way--he begrudgingly took the exam. But since it was just to satisfy others' desire or following order and not from his own motivation, he was unsure of himself. Coupled it with low self-esteem that dipped so low he didn't even accept positive remarks about himself so he kept ruminating on the fact that he was weak. And we can see later on that when given choice to stay out of it on the mountain arc, Zenitsu would take time to gather his thought and follow along willingly, he still whining but less than his annoying whine when he was pushed into the dangerous situation unwillingly. I agree with you that Zenitsu is really relatable for those who has insecurities and low self-esteem. He's my favorite character.
People think he's annoying because he is presented as such in the episode he debuts in. There's really nothing redeeming about him at that point, and it's like Sarah/Adam said and how the next episode you get his combat ability and then his loyalty/kindness in this episode.
One thing people who are watching this from obviously Tanjiro’s side of POV is that all these time the demon slayers never knew/met a kind/good demon. 🥺 So to them demons MUST be killed. The same reaction to the future episodes when people meet Nezuko.
Great reaction as always. Now we wait for a few more episodes to give Master Boarhead a chance to redeem himself and a backstory perhaps. My take on which one Tanjiro thought was the blood demon art is the Tsuzumi. It is obvious that Kyougai (the demon) was fighting Tanjiro using the Tsuzumi as his weapon. Tanjiro avoiding stepping the papers on which Kyougai wrote his prose etc., was possibly out of some sense of in-built respect and it was an internal reflex more than a conscious decision. It helped him figure out how to breathe while moving and also served to show Kyougai that Tanjiro didn't look down on and respected(?)/had compassion for him and his things even though he was the enemy. But in actuality it may have been some combination of his writing and the Tsuzumi, because the creativity of the Tsuzumi's sound making the mansion move around like a rubiks cube, changing rooms and the claw attack etc., might have been part of his writing/creativity woven into the drumming. The Blood Demon Arts are basically the "magic system" of this world. It is the weapon that the demons use to trap and eat people and to fight Demon Slayers. It stems from something that is important to them (like the Mari and the Tsuzumi) or something that they value//desire etc., and this seems to have influence on what their Blood Demon Art turns out to be.
I love Demon Slayer but I'm hoping that you guys will dive in on Attack on Titan as well. Just give the first episode a try. I swear, you won't regret it.

Zenitsu was not fighting with his sword because A Demon Slayer can not raise sword against other demon slayer.. Otherwise he would have whooped his ass 😅

I don't necessarily agree with this. If they were watching it on a big screen I would have recommended the movie myself. But this is reacting to an anime and we all live for these weekly episodes. I would like them to go a bit slow and in depth with the nuances and more character development. And it is not like the pacing of the 2nd season is bad or anything. I would prefer if they stuck with the season reactions.
