i came out as lesbian at 19 (i’m 22 now) and i relate to kehlani so much and i think that’s why she’s one of my fav artist, i suffered with compulsory heterosexuality but also internalized homophobia and it took me so long to accept myself but now i am free and i can finally breathe

I could not relate more to this. I just turned 22 in October and realized I'm lesbian this year. I've gone thru the same. My mom is homophobic and my dad was once upon a time as well. He seems to be accepting for the most part now tho. I'm excited to continue to try to fully accept myself and find myself by expressing myself the way I should've long ago.

The word Growth is powerful, and you learn to stay in tune with you! I’m 55, and I’m still a work in progress but I’m in tune with my journey and I stay grounded and work through it. You are a beautiful soul working and stay connected to the inner you❤️
When Kehlani came out as lesbian; I literally was like okay....like you said it was not anything new. She been liked women even while dating guys; so the fact that she took one more step and accepted the fact of being a lesbian was like okay....NEXT!! I was not surprised at all. I was more so like she knows where she stands with herself in her life right now.

Honestly it took me a while too, to realize that I was not bisexual but lesbian. Also because I was scared. My family wasn’t supportive (I’m raised Christian) and that played a huge role in my decisions I made in life. A lot of decisions I regret but made me who I am today. If I’d never had a chance to experience to be with both men and women, I would never come to realize it’s just women I love. How did I know at some point it was only women for me? Just how Kehlani explained. It’s like you wanna help them, like them, see them as brothers or like love them as brothers. Nothing more. You just confuse it with “love” cause I was at such a young age that I haven’t even experienced love before. At some point when I was about 22 years old, I met this incredible woman. She changed my perspective and I got to find out who I really was. So yeah, it feels amazing when you know who you are and what you want. Cause that’s a daily thing you carry with you, and if that’s unsure, that’s just making you feel fucking miserable. I’m almost 27 now and Im looking forward to spend a life with an amazing woman!

Thank you for using your platform to educate and help people. I wish I had that while growing up. However, I'd like to mention thing you said about redefining societal constructs. The big shift is happening and I'm glad to see that newer generations are aware of inflexibility and overall toxicity of the old ways, as well as it's atrocious impact on individuals and society, as a whole. Honestly it took me a while too, to realize that I was not bisexual but lesbian. Also because I was scared. My family wasn’t supportive (I’m raised Christian) and that played a huge role in my decisions I made in life. A lot of decisions I regret but made me who I am today. If I’d never had a chance to experience to be with both men and women, I would never come to realize it’s just women I love. How did I know at some point it was only women for me? Just how Kehlani explained. It’s like you wanna help them, like them, see them as brothers or like love them as brothers. Nothing more. You just confuse it with “love” cause I was at such a young age that I haven’t even experienced love before. At some point when I was about 22 years old, I met this incredible woman. She changed my perspective and I got to find out who I really was. So yeah, it feels amazing when you know who you are and what you want. Cause that’s a daily thing you carry with you, and if that’s unsure, that’s just making you feel fucking miserable. I’m almost 27 now and Im looking forward to spend a life with an amazing woman!
