There is a common misconception about wether you move the monkey or the stage, what’s actually happening is that you are moving the monkey and the stage is standing still, there is a game mechanic called stage tilt, it creates the illusion of the stage moving when you move the monkey, if you play SMB1 or SMB2 with debug mode enabled, you can turn stage tilt on and off.
I've never played any of the SMB games prior to Banana Mania, and even I had a gut feeling that something was off with the way the movement felt while I was playing through the story mode.
So on the money with this. This was a big part of childhood gaming with my siblings. Was so ready to relive the glory days with the fam. Guess I'll be digging out my Gamecube instead. Sad. What a poor way to serve such iconic games. Hope the mod community can fix some of this on PC. I'm fucked on console.
I also agree taking out lives was a good idea for single-player (especially because every run has a mission that says to complete it in under a certain amounts of deaths) but i think they should add them again when and if they make local multyplayer
@@paperseagull4297 The touch screen controls are solid, not that hard to get used to. There's also a 3DS hack that uses the that console's analog nub that's solid

This video is 1000% correct about the remake I'm surprised you didnt mention the overly tilting stages/camera in it, its so disorienting compared to the original
When did the original music pack come out? I recently bought this deluxe edition and it came with the option for all the original songs… I don’t think I could fathom playing it without those tunes
Finally some mention hiw crazy they move inside a fast ball THATS WHAT I MISS I miss wheb im going fast and turning the monkey in the ball start to rotate and spin all kinds of ways
Agree they missed the mark on some of the details, but gotta applaud it for the attempt to get back to form. There is one great song on the soundtrack (unfortunately only one), Volcanic Magma, check it out.
I loved Smb 1 and 2 but since the wii-games there were this change in art design with this more childish and more plastic „lazy“ look and i cant stand it 😞 The rearranged music here is bland and even if i have to buy the DLC-classic-music there is the problem with art design…so no buy for me (unfortunately)
Even as someone who never played a lot of Monkey Ball post-Banana Blitz and onwards (and also as someone who thinks the difficulty balancing in SMB1 could use a LOT of work (yes i'm yet another person that got walled by Exam-C)), I can't not see Banana Mania as a soulless recreation hoping to cash in on the same hype brought in by the originals. The originals were superb, Jr. was okay for what it was trying to be, Touch and Roll was also great *if you ignore the touch screen and just use the d-pad* , I haven't played enough of Adventure to hate it as much as other fans, but tbh I at least respect it for trying something new and failing as opposed to Super Monkey Ball 3D which is just Banana Blitz again but even worse. And I owned 3D before I even owned SMB1 (though i had Deluxe on a modded xbox), so if this was the Banana Blitz era at its worst, and its best doesn't look that much better, then what's the point in putting faith in a remake that is just a Banana Blitz in Sheeps clothing.
I played the originals. I played the remake. And I'm saying this take is a load of garbage. It seems to me that your hate stems from *checks notes* The graphics and the sound effects aren't the same...? Do I have that right? Which I'm chalking up to nostalgia blindness. The gameplay is the same. the levels are the same. This is the same game as before with a fresh coat of paint and I'm really not entirely sure why you seem to have such a vitriol towards it other than 'it's not the original'
I’ll fight tooth and nail in saying that this remake is very very different. The mechanics are different and gameplay is affected by such. Rolling feels off and I mean feels, meaning inputs are vastly different and me playing a level side by side will definitely have a different sloppier result. Also they destroyed the mini games monkey target does not work. Monkey bowling has overcompensating spin so you can even use that right either. I love monkey ball. Heck I love monkey ball jr on the gba. I was just more sad with the changes and how gameplay is in the remake.
Honestly the only remakes that fit my standards are Fire Emblem Echoes, Link's Awakening, Pokemon HGSS and REmake. Remakes are 99% of the time soulless cashgrabs
The fact that Boiling Pot has dubstep music in Banana Mania makes me unreasonably upset. I've been playing Super Monkey Ball 2 on Dolphin, I installed a mod that turns 2 into Deluxe so I could get the first game's stages and Ultimate difficulty on a "gamecube." I tried actual Deluxe on a PS2 emulator and *holy 30fps with twitchy controls and lag, batman*
yea you're just complaining to complain I'm one of the ogs biggest fans and even though I think they're superior, the remake is just as stellar as those, hell I managed to get all the medals on SMB1's missions,, its a great game,, just a weird remake. But it's not bad, you're just really salty imo
Just be happy that Banana Mania was a huge step in the right direction. Now we’ve got Banana Rumble whose levels are reminiscent of the original two games.
Ok, your review is good but your video fell flat for me. Your language was uncalled for and so out of place. This game is a kids game and you dropped so many F bombs and vulgar language that you just came off as a word that I cannot type out of my comment wants to stay on YT.
I dunno, I kinda feel like you're expecting a perfect recreation of the games... It shouldn't really be. Not always of course, there are some valuable points, but what can I say, I get the vibe you didn't like some of the changes just because they were changes. Still a good video though
If you liked this game then you really should seek out the OGs, either on original hardware or emulation, they are immaculate games (and you can play the main game with your friends too!)
If you were porting games to modern hardware, wouldn't you try to keep them as accurate as possible? Who are you to change the intent of the original creators?
Which part is the unreasonable bit? This video tells me he's angry because the sound effects and graphics are not the same ones he has nostalgia for (which is to be expected, if you're releasing the same game with a new coat of paint, then why complain about the paint?). @@ChiefMedicPururu Deluxe's biggest issue is the loss of the rolling sound, which isn't actually a big deal If you're talking about the 30 FPS and much worse graphics, those are exclusive to the mediocre PS2 version, the Xbox version is 60 FPS with almost all GCN graphics retained (the only thing missing is some reflection effects being missing)
