Totally disagree- docs today are well researched, more available on more platforms (therefore more far reaching), better produced, much higher quality, just far superior. Just because it's old and grainy doesn't have to mean it's more authentic. Try watching the Planet Earth series. If you open your mind you'll see that tech advances can be positive- I'm saying this as an older person.
I mean they kind of were but today these documentaries run off of old and outdated information and we've learned so much since then about space that this documentary is kind of obsolete

@ 5.45 it talks about the spacecraft going the opposite direction than the planet but then the diagram shows the same orbit..what gives?
Because the earth is orbiting the sun at about 30km/s, so when the rocket pushes in the opposite direction of the orbit it will start slowing down its orbit in that direction. It's because the rocket maintains the earth's orbital velocity relative to the sun. In order to actually orbit in reverse direction, it would have to accelerate 60km/s in that direction.

I don’t understand why the spacecraft would fall back to Earth having accelerated out of Earth’s orbit and having reached a point in space three quarters the distance to Mars...why would the Suns gravity pull it back to Earth?!
According to Newtons laws of motion it should continue on until another force or object deflected it.
The spacecrafts momentum would be constant and pull of the Sun would be lessened due to the greater distance. Thus it may shoot passed Mars.
