Faultlessly fitting tuxedo, hair slicked back, a cheeky look and Max Raabe sings the best of the 20s and early 30s with amusing nostalgia. Songs, hits and couplets. Cuban rumbas, cheerful foxtrots and elegant tangos - songs of amazingly serious, amusing, yet melancholy simplicity. The ironic lyrics suit the times today as much they did eighty years ago. In the concert halls of New York, Shanghai, Paris, Berlin and Moscow, in Tokyo, Los Angeles, Vienna, Amsterdam and Rome the audiences celebrate Max Raabe and his Palast Orchester with incredible enthusiasm.

I discovered Max Raabe about ten years ago. Within the hour of discovering him - on RUclips coincidently - I bought two albums, two DVDs and tickets to see him live; I’ve seen him three times since.
I bought my mother tickets to see him - last concert she ever went to - and she said it was the greatest concert she ever went to; and my mother saw Sinatra in concert.
Indeed! I just discovered Max Raabe by virtue of a NPR Weekend Edition interview, and learned that he is touring the United States soon. Transfixed & enraptured!
I just saw him live in NY. Excellent performance, will be playing his recordings a lot from now on
So weary of the noise that passes for music today. Thankfully, there is this magnificent orchestra and Max Raabe.
RIP Vincent Riewe (Drums) who passed away 21/3/2017 aged 57
It's funny how people that we've never met become part of our lives. Riewe's death made me feel very sad.
Seem percussionist is more accurate. He seemed to being having fun in the spotlight here.
And, this guy sings in, at least three languages, and all very well! He captures music from the 20's and 30's beautifully.
The most beautiful version of this song I have ever heard and pure classy.

My daughter and her boyfriend went to see them last month at the Met in New York, her boyfriend's uncle plays the tuba and the bass in the orchestra. He's playing the bass in this video.
When I first heard Max Raabe on radio Dismuke singing "An einem Tag im Frügling", I thought that he was another singer from 1930-1940s

What a melodious, elegant version of this song I have loved my whole life....from when the song was written. Thank you for posting.
The arrangement, performance and video of this song is just perfect. The glockenspiel and violin solos in the intro, along with the toy Zeppelin, played by a German band, make me ache for the shattered hopes and dreams of the 20's and 30''s and the tragic loss of life in the 1937 Hindenburg disaster. The rest of band's performance is perfect as well. Herr Raabe himself is a bit too affected for my taste, but in this video, he doesn't overdo it too much. This is my favorite version of this song.
As another commenter once said long ago, "It's the zeppelin that really makes this song".

I have enjoyed this song 6.10.2018 in Turku, Finland; the very last song of the concert. It was the first time I recognize the total silence of the public. Everyone wanted have the maximum pleasure of this magnific music. Thanks! Vielen Danke Max!

Flawless and so refreshing to hear it so beautifully done. My grandmother once said when Cass Elliott made this a hit, "silly, nothing new about this. It was a great favorite in my day!" And so it was.

The remote controlled zeppelin is a reference to a commercial of the clothing retailer C&A that ran a TV commercial spot in the early 1990s repopularizing the Mama Cass version of this song, featuring historic zeppelin pictures nicely integrated in the sky behind a lighthouse at the beach, the whole with a yellowish/sepia retro tinge. Max Raabe brings it to a whole extra class and the unorthodox instrumentation certainly adds to it!
