I have kept a Lamarck’s angelfish in my reef tank. Literally the most destructive fish that I’ve ever kept asides from the yellow tilefish. I had to put my Lamarck’s angelfish in my refugium because he destroyed corals. My tilefish killed a giant pink watchman goby in front of my eyes. He died of ich a few months later. What ended my reef tank you ask? A Desjardin's sailfin tang. Now it is a semi FOWLR with a few palys and a large false gorgonian coral. The tank has some interesting species. Here are some: Flame angelfish, banana wrasse, striped squirrelfish, pink spotted dottyback, longnose hawkfish, sixline wrasse, maroon clownfish female, domino damselfish, undulatus triggerfish, Picasso triggerfish, rectangle triggerfish, lyretail anthias, moorish idol, and one of the most unpopular reef fish; Yellow Brotulid.
The geometric is a great recommendation - although apparently they are not good with gobies and I would prefer the goby ;( Multibar is a fish on my list - though I have read they do better in a pair. With the earmuff I think a Halichoeres is a must in any tank - I think the Iridis is the most gorgeous and yours looks amazing but in a way it's similar colors to Anampses Twistti (which I'd really like to find a healthy specimen of). Glad you recommended Genicanthus too which I feel would be on more people's list if they knew they were planktivores. I don't think its that they are found deep but I think it's that diet (or maybe they are in more open ocean). Great video - there should be more slightly obscure recommendations - and those anthias... you are saying they are more hardy than most as long as you feed multiple times a day? Something I should look at for sure ;)
My perchlet has been fine with a one inch Randall's goby although he has a pistol shrimp to help dig him a safety burrow. I think hawks and the like get an unfair reputation with gobies. My scarlet hawk would chase my Wheeler's goby at times but I don't think they do much more than that as a rule. Twistii wrasse is a good shout - there are some stunning wrasse out there. You're right about Genis and plankton. The anthias are still not necessarily easy but by reputation they're much less feisty and finicky than other anthias. And mine love the auto feeder. I'm only 6 months in but with chromis i've had they've dwindled in number long before now. We'll see long-term...
Great video as always. Do you ever have issues with fish jumping out of your tank or damp in your room with an open top tank? I’ve always had tanks with hoods but the trend now seems to be open top. Interested to know your experiences
Thanks. I have a lid, I just take it off for filming sometimes. I regularly see/hear my fish jumping out of the water so a lid is essential for me. My yellow wrasse made it out once when I had the lid off to move a coral! 🤦♂️
Reef Dork nightmare. My first marine tank was a TMC microhabitat a few years ago that came with a cover with about 1cm gap around the edge and one of my clowns managed to squeeze through that! Since then I’ve always had a tight cover and think I’ll continue that way! Do you have a mesh or transparent cover? Only recently discovered your channel so haven’t watched all your vids yet!
I had a Burgessi that died in quarantine! But I suck at quarantine so don't read too much into that! As far as I'm aware, they're not particularly fussy.
How about a Catalina Goby (Lythrypnus dalli), Black Velvet Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus melanosoma), The Masked Angel (Genicanthus personatus), Peppermint Angelfish (Centropyge boylei) Enjoy looking them up absolute stunning fish.
@@ReefDork I want one too. Any particular reason behind you not being so fussed on one? They aggressive? I've obviously done some research but until you've had one I suppose you just don't know. I had a red velvet fairy wrasse but he jumped when I spooked him picking a knocked over coral up in the night. Lesson learned, keep hands out of tank after dark. I was either going to get another one or the pink margin.. hmmm🤔🤔
Wrasses are mega jumpers - a cover is the only solution. But I'm just not a fan of that particular fish's colouring. They're pretty peaceful by the looks of it though 👍
1 love em 2 i prefer other rabbit fish besides the fox face 3 any halocoeres wrasse is fine by me, earmuffs though seem pricy compared to the basic "yellow coris (which is halochoeres) and melanurus wrasses, 4 angels tend to be coral eaters, so its a no go, only genicanthus genus for me . 5 as much as i love butterflies no way i will ever risk it. 6 love them the only angels i would get now, 7 not as pretty as other anthias in my opinion,
I’ve got a coral beauty and a yellow fin angel no aggression no fighting or tank dominance and never touched a coral my lipstick tang runs the tank has any one else got 2 angles in there tank ?
Had a foxface rabbitfish for over 6 years now he hasn't got the black spot though is very big he eats acan corals any coral that looks a bit poorly he picks on any fish you put in the tank he killed my long nose butterfly fish he attacked my tangs anything that yellow he hates is a complete twatt but haven't got the heart to get rid of him as I've had him such a long time but would never have another one and I am not the only one who agrees with this they can be evil and coral eaters
Here is part II - ruclips.net/video/SIBQnI09kXo/видео.html
How big is your tank in this video?
@@imperatorsteve 400 litres after displacement - it's a Red Sea Reefer Peninsula 500 (4x2x2)
Vids like these always make me want a bigger tank
Amen.
Mate I’m here running a 800gallon all from a cursed day at the fun fair 3 years ago where I won a goldfish for £3
@@patrickmonteiro1999 that was what got me started in keeping fish too.. now here we are
Same so I traded my 50 for a 75 and now I can have small tangs
I love your channel! Just came across it & super glad I did. Very informative & good editing
Thanks man, appreciate it 🙂
@@ReefDork of course! Keep up the good work 😁
I have a mixed reef with a mitratus butterfly. Never had an issue and it’s the most amazing fish. Might be my favorite!
Well done sir, Pseudanthias pulcherrimus are my favorite anthias species👍🏾😃carry on and thank you for sharing. Cheers☀️
loved the earmuff!
4:02 meow
🤣🤣 Tried muting the little bastard in the edit but couldn't!
The Reef Dork thanks for the like

GOod videos and info .THanks for doing it ! :)
I love it when fish yawn 🥱

new 2 your channel!! awesome content!!
4.25 whats that purple fish in the middle at the bottom woth the top and the bottom fin the same size?
Beautiful tank you got yourself there. Which light is it you have. It looks really sleek and nice...
Thanks. It's a Giesemann Stellar with a Kessil AP700 and a Radion xr15.
Blue jaw triggers I love those triggers
I know this is a fish video, but I really liked your light fixture :)
It's fantastic! I'm doing a video soon with a breakdown of all my kit...
Great video

I absolutely love your tank whats it called and where did you get it from?
Keep up the good work 🌨😊
Thanks. It's a Red Sea Peninsula 500 - got it from a shop in the UK.
Great selection. Have you kept those butterfly fish? Hard to get eating

Thanks buddy 👍 It's what you do with it that counts...
What is that grazer you use to feed the foxface?
He was just eating algae off the back of my Tunze algae magnet 🙂
Beautyful swallowtail angelfish 😍
What size tank is that your showing?

Catalina gobies are gorgeous but dont survive at reef temperatures.
Who needs a house when you can have a peppermint angel
Great video buddy. I wonder if a Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse could be number 8 on the list lol. 👍
My missus wants me to get one of those! I'm not mad keen though...

Should of mentioned that the rabbit fish has a syringe type dorsal fin that has a toxin that is very painful if you get hit
At 4:56, what is the fish all the way to the left bottom in the next tank? It looks long and is black with white spots? You can see him better at 4:58
Looks like a sweet lips maybe. They grow BIG!
Edit. I think it's a juvenile Oriental sweet lips
@@ReefDork thanks!
Make a video on the top 7 things your fishes will never think of
😂 #1 - if I jump out, will there still be water?
You mentioned Resplendent Anthias are bright pink but imo they're more orange color.
LiveAquaria agrees with you! Mine are most definitely pink though. Maybe they'll become more orange in time...
mccosker's wrasse is a nice one and there like the budgie Cheap !!!
🤣 I remember that line from Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels! Great shout on the flasher wrasse 👌
@@ReefDork yeah quality film :D
Could you do a vid on micro tanks? Like 10g to 15g?
I've never had one that small I'm afraid - mad Hatter's Reef does lots of stuff on small tanks though. Worth a look if you haven't seen 🙂
I like blotched anthias but they're 400ea in Australia.
Is always about the price!: majority of people get the cheaper fish the can get...
How often do you feed your anthias?
4 times a day - I reduced feeding recently to once a day to reduce phosphate and two of them died, looking thin 🙁
Reef Dork I was afraid you’d say that 😭
What I've learned is that the idea of keeping anthias is much better than the reality if I'm honest!

I couldn’t name a single species of salt fish except lion fish and certain sharks
Tuna? 🤤
