What an absolute pleasure it was for me to find you, a kindred spirit in collecting drum bits. I have been playing on my old Premier kit with the Ludwig Ghost pedal for 40 years , and would never part with it.
Id love to chat you up on aging my Premier kit. Thank you for this video sir

You are welcome! Thank you for the nice comment and for getting in touch. Yes, that Premier kit of your sounds most interesting. It's always nice to meet fellow Ludwig Ghost Pedal fans too!

I’ve been gigging and recording with a 70s Speed King for 4 years. Hasn’t failed me yet

The Ludwig Speedking is the most sensitive base drum pedal. I used to have a Camco, and liked it, but if you take the time to adjust the dual compression springs so the beater is angled ALL THE WAY BACK the SpeedKing is the best. You can feather the base drum or SLAM IT!!!
    IMHO

I love the speed king. Best pedal ever designed

I had a Ludwig foot pedal that I bought new in the 80's that I sold and still have seller's remorse. Its design was almost identical to today's TAMA HP50 and was amazingly easy to control, adjust and pack up. I haven't been able to locate one since. It bore no resemblance at all to the vintage Speed King other than having the Ludwig logo built into it.

that premier pedal you mentioned was the 252 i played on 1 of those in 1978 and the speed and feel of it is incredible! could,nt afford one those days, was on 14 years old! the closest thing i played on similar to the 252 is a tama camco pedal

Ah yes thank you! That was a very good pedal, I must get one. Ha! Yes buying gear we loved at 14 was a always a tricky thing :)

It was the 250-s with the rubber footboard and 'Blue' frame..... The 252 was much bigger (and sturdier) I believe Cozy Powell bought the remaining stock when Premier stopped making them! I have both models and occasionally play the 252.

Yep. Cozy played the 250 even when he endorsed Yamaha drums.

I never liked the Speedking. Alway seems to be too much travel on the beater. I adore the Ghost and still use two today. They are so well designed and balanced, if you get the springs properly set up,there’s not a faster or smoother pedal that can match it. I’ve had pedals by all the usual manufacturers over the past 40 years and nothing comes close. The only downside of the ghost is if a spring breaks, they’re irreparable.

All 3 I desire I have a Pair of new Speed Kings, but 3 different Principles of Action, the Ghost was meant for Power Players but the Coill Springs suffered from Fatigue, but the Speed Kings Mechanism goes back to like 1937, that's what's is unique about Ludwig is their Style and Innovations, some features go back to 1919 or even 1909. the Speed-Master is much like the Original Martin Fleet-Foot (Camco - Gretsch & D.W.)
When I was a Teen in the 70's I would be thrilled to own a Speed-Master but couldn't afford it , and a Ghost I dreamed about but they stopped making them when I became an Adult and could afford one,

I have a Pre-Ludwig Ghost pedal from the early 50's. I honestly think it's better than the ones Ludwig made when they bought out Ghost. The foot plate is different than the Ludwig version. That's the main difference.

Wow, you have the early Ghost, really the Proto-type, the Modern is the one Shown re-engineered and meant for Heavy Players.
