- The UK has had two and a half times the rainfall it usually gets in February.
Times have been tough...
Join me on a visit to RSPB Lakenheath Fen where I discuss the "triangle of doom" in my wildlife photography, whether I will get the Lumix G9ii and hopefully get some good bird photography shots at my RSPB local reserve.

Many Thanks for watching! I am debating on making a video showing how I have my camera setup for wildlife photography. If this is useful please let me know! :)
Very happy G9ii user here... love the ease of use, the stabilization with my Panasonic lenses, the autofocus is a MASSIVE upgrade, 25mp sensor (good if you crop), amazing video features I'll hopefully grow into, and Panasonic's color science. The OM-1's advantages are the compatibility with Oly lenses (if you have those), slightly faster autofocus in Continuous Autofocus mode, built-in ND filters, and in-camera focus stacking for macro photography. Good luck!
I just realised OM now do a 150-600 to make it even harder to decide! I already have the leica 100-400 which I'm happy with so on the Panasonic side there's really only the 200 2.8 as an "upgrade path" whereas there's the 40-150 2.8 on OM side and also the 300 F4. I won't count there 150-400 as that's not really an option I can ever foresee having 😂
Lovely location - the mood and tones and those reeds. It struck me that you're fortunate in the UK to have established but comparatively non-invasive infrastructure in place to ease the activities of nature-shooters etc - pretty cool. Liked the escargot - probably an asylum-seeker from France. Cheers and all the best from NZ.
@luzr6613 the RSPB is an amazing organisation without that and the wildlife trusts I dare say we would barely have any nature left!
Hi Joe, great that you managed to get a video out after the card failure. All the best Steve.
I can be stubborn when I want to be! 😂
I think that's a good thing sometimes. I'm the same.
@@SteveHedgesPhotography I do need a nudge sometimes though haha
Life isn't always easy trying to photograph wildlife, but you are doing really well, especially with your job etc. This rain is getting too much now and needs to go away so that the birds come out to play. Take care mate. Steve
I think I'm taking it so hard on myself because as you know motivation can come and go and so I want to take advantage of that while I still have it! I'm definately having fun with it more now though. Popped out earlier during a break in the rain and got treated to seeing Muntajac, Roe Deer, 3 Kingfishers, Heron and a perched Cormorant I spent far too long trying to pre burst capture it but it didn't want to take off! 😂
@@JoeMaranophotography Good for you Joe and seeing 3 Kingfishers - wow! Keep up the good work.
@@cynical1952 Much too far off - I think those guys would be candidates for a floating hide or maybe a boat but they were VERY active! Maybe if I had been on the other side of the river on second thoughts!
Loved the intro footage and music - really nicely edited! I used to have a 1st generatiko Osmo Pocket and sometimes it just stopped recording anything to the card until it was taken out and reinserted - no errors or anything either which meant I lost a few days out :/
Thanks Geoff! Damn that sucks! Don't get me wrong I like the product but I definitely felt more comfortable even using the old Lumix G80 compared to this. That said beggers can't be choosers! 😆
@@JoeMaranophotographyyeah, despite their quirks, the Osmo Pocket cameras are really handy for vlogging stuff... when they work!
@@GeoffCooper The main thing I'm not a fan of is battery life! I'm going to switch to 2.7k and see if that helps!
@@JoeMaranophotographyyeah, with the OP1 I had to have a power pack in my pocket when vlogging and give it a little juice-up from time to time. With the OP3 I have the extended battery grip permanently attached!!
@GeoffCooper Yeah I'm having to use a powerbank with this. Maybe one day I can go back to a proper camera or save for longer and keep the original G9 for the job :)
Great video very instructive I now have the G9M2 and am just starting to get used to it regards Dave❤
Oh now I'm just INCREDIBLY JEALOUS lol! How are you finding it autofocus wise?
@@JoeMaranophotography it is very good i like you had the first G9 it was good but not as good as the latest version i was always useing manual focus on the mk 1
i also use the gh6 and will say the G9M2 is far better check my channel out i will be putting some videos out soon using the G9M2 regards Dave
❤👍
@@davehodgkiss Have you tried out the pre burst functions yet?
only had a few goes at pre burst and so far it is really good@@JoeMaranophotography
@@davehodgkiss and how has the AF been so far?
I've got the G9ii and I recommend it - the AF is so much better than ghe Mk 1. Nice to see you in the hide I was in a couple of weeks ago 🙂
I think I'm really going to have to test it out first this time as AF has been the absolute number one issue I have had with my wildlife photography over the years. I've tried so many different settings over the years but it just seems that the original contrast detect system just wasn't good enough for anything fast and unpredictable. I also hear so many good things about the OM1 so it's going to be a tough choice for sure!
I go through phases where I practically live in that hide 😂
